EREPUBLIK - "GAME OPTIONS" UPDATE
Feynmann
Hi guys,
It's been a while. I've been super busy in RL lately, popping in and out of eExistence in the past week.
So, when I logged in, a few days ago, I noticed there are some new updates implemented. I didn't see any official info, concerning these updates, so I decided to share what I found, in case someone missed it.
DAILY TASK & DAILY ORDER NOTIFICATIONS
That one can hardly be missed. You have all probably noticed it by now. It adds a reminder (similar to the ones on Facebook) next to the Companies, Training grounds and My Military Unit menus.
Its not that it is very useful update, but I guess someone may need a constant reminder that (s)he hasn't done his/her Daily task/Order after (s)he has closed the annoying popup.
GAME OPTIONS /NOTIFICATION MANAGER/
Speaking of popups ...
Here's the other and more meaningful part of the update.
They have added a "Game options" menu or as it should have probably been named Notifications manager.
You can check that by following these steps:
Now this is, a very nice touch to the game. I personally find some of the popups VERY annoying, like: "Country X is now and empire" -> "Country X is no longer an empire" etc., so being able to shut that one down is quite satisfying.
The categories are pretty well thought of, especially the Training contract notification, as some players complain they don't get the usual Training Contract notification and sometimes miss the deadline to sign one.
Also, I find the "Show Daily Order on all News Feed tabs" option, very useful and it spares you a few clicks if you want to check the game for a quick fight in your covfefe break.
The one obvious thing that is missing is the Elections popup manager menu, but I guess we should not be that picky. I hope the admins will add that one too in the future.
So make sure you tune the game notifications according to your preferences.
Overall a good update, giving us some nice little tweaks.
Still, with the new overlords at large, I am hoping for some meaningful major update that will make the game a lot cooler. Fingers crossed
That's all for today guys

"Country X is now and [sic] empire" I have seen that so many times and it's both annoying and amusing. When it goes from "Country X is no longer an empire" to "Country X is now an empire" and back to "Country X is no longer an empire" I can't help but find it amusing. I mean, it's like the population of country X can't decide whether they want a democracy or not.
Yes, indeed. That was the most annoying popup for me.
Now if only they had an option for nihilist pop-up reminders like "OMG, I am still playing this game. Somebody shoot me."
I can't imagine anyone forcing you to play.
Why do you play if you dislike the game so much?
An excellent question. I think mostly to annoy people. And maybe to distract myself a little from real-life angst.
You're not really asking me, but I'll quit soon. Probably.
I also don't want to play anymore. I don't really feel like there's anything worth my money other than supporting the occasional article. Wars began to bore me a long time ago. Even if they are made more fun (e.g. the one-to-one battle thing was interesting when it first came out) wars are, in the end, still wars.
Then there's working. Years ago, the game had a work skill (I can't remember if that was its name) that was somewhat similar to strength, but was gained through, well, working, and instead of making you stronger, it made you more efficient at your job, making it similar to comparing the real life productivity of someone who has worked 20 years with carpentry to one who just became a carpenter a week ago. In other words, people with companies would favor old and high producing citizens over young, less producing citizens by paying them a lot of money (I remember working for the biggest company in my country for a ridiculously high pay) and new citizens would thus slowly get a higher wage, actually making some want to keep playing the game every day in order to make their citizen more economically powerful. Was I pissed when my ridiculously high work skill (and with it, my high pay) was taken from me by being removed from the game? Yes.
Every e-country also had its own currency rather than just "cc" today. That meant you could potentially also earn money (and actually influence another country's economy to a certain extend) by selling x currency (for gold or even Y currency) to people that needed x currency to buy things in whatever country they were moving to or what things they needed to buy through a foreign market. That made it feel a lot like trading stocks lol. Buy low, sell high.
In retrospect, I feel the game had more content back then. That's what I dislike about the game today; everything but wars are being neglected and a lot of "not directly related to war" stuff has been removed.
When the time comes, maybe I will give out a good bunch of gold to whoever writes the best article, so keep writing them 😛
What can we do to make you change your mind about leaving?
Probably make the game focus less on war and more on other things again. Fix the bad things about today's economy and put things in the game that have no little to no relevance to war, as the majority of products on the market are meant for war. Food and its raw material isn't only used for war (though 99% of the time it probably is), but everything else is pretty much solely meant to be used in wars. If you refrain from taking part in wars, you can literally make do with only buying food and / or food raw materials to make your own food.
Then there's the political part of the game. Parties, like in real life, can be left wing, center-wing, right wing or somewhere in-between. But what's the difference in erepublik? There's hardly any as far as I know. Yes, you can set taxes and start / end / support wars, but that's about it. There aren't random events that would spark a different reaction in a left wing party compared to a right-wing party. The political system is, aside from matters related to war, pretty much cosmetic in nature.
The media system is mostly fine as it is (though I sometimes want something like a thumbs-down button or something for a few really REALLY bad articles).
Basically, I want the game to be fun and worth playing for people that don't like participating in wars regardless of the reason. That's all.
