ePioneer Political - Vote Buying and the Presidential Election

Day 1,928, 11:00 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by BluesFish

Welcome to ePioneer Political, a weekly newspaper published every Friday evening which discusses what I believe are the main political debates of the previous week.

This week there was little actually going on. There were discussions on financial issues and whether congress should get its own forum, but these have been pretty small discussions. Hence why I'm focusing on the biggest issue this week and my thoughts on what I want to see this coming election.

I'm not bitter, I swear!

Vote Buying

This controversial topic is about certain individuals buying votes through a couple of methods. The first and most nefarious of those is paying currency or gold to a 'voters club' who will then vote up your article. The second method is to offer something for votes, for example food or weapons.

In my opinion, both of these are plain wrong. They both mean that the top 5 is being manipulated and isn't a true representative of the public opinion. The first method is much worse however because it puts money into the hands of foreigners and potential enemies of the UK. I don't think it is worth it to let enemies buy more weapons or food just so that your article can stay in the top 5 for longer.

The issue here is that it ruins the media module. Obviously I may be seen to be biase😛 I'm a young player with a very small subscriber base who struggles to gain votes and this could be seen to hurt me the most. This view would be right - it does hurt me, but I'm willing to let my work stand on merit and get voted for whether it's good or not. Hopefully this will let me improve until I can produce articles that are voted into the top 5 regularly. I feel this is the attitude others should take rather than just paying for success.

We can expect some more diversity this coming election

Last month the presidential election saw two pretty similar candidates with nearly identical ideas on how to run the country. The main difference in their two campaigns was 'large cabinets' against 'patriotism not politics' - not exactly conducive for a thrilling campaign.

This month GokuJones of New Era and Blue & Evil of Every Single One are looking to be the main candidates - though there is a little time for others to come to the fore. Personally I will be making my final decision on who to support when I see all the manifestos and cabinet members laid out but I have some ideas on what I'd like to see.

My biggest fault with the current government is a lack of communication put forward towards the public. The only ministry that consistently updates the community on what is happening is the Ministry of Defence, with fantastic daily articles on why battles are prioritised.

I'd like to see a candidate push for this to become mainstream in all the ministries. Obviously a daily article for most ministries isn't realistic, but at least a weekly update published together by the CP or in some sort of comprehensive government article should be supported.

I feel one of the key issues in why the country is quite stagnant and focusing on petty issues is because the wider community doesn't really have the information accessible to talk about anything else. Knowing what the country is doing financially, what has happened in congress and what work the MoFA has done is vital for the public to engage in politics.

Another issue I'd like to a potential CP address is the economy. Clearly the module is broken and not much headway can be made. But experimentation should be encouraged. We have already had an offer from Iain Keers to implement a new tax plan which he will compensate in full if it doesn't work. MPP's are now our only expense and obviously we want as many with TWO and COT members as possible. For this to happen income must be maximised but we will never know if we just leave taxes as they are.

Those are my thoughts on the issues this week. I'm going to start having a relevant question of the week to hopefully stimulate a little interaction in the comments. So this week's question is:

What is the main issue you want to see a CP candidate address?

Thanks for reading.
