eGovernment Taxation vs Welfare

Probably will be one of my shorter articles (that turned out to be a lie now, didn't it?), but one I feel is important that I've wanted to do for a while. Actually, Molly Emma gave me the idea one day in a random congressional discussion or something. So thanks Molly, I probably wouldn't have thought of doing this otherwise.

To cut to the chase, I wanted to speak on the relationship between the citizen and eUS government. Who benefits from this relationship? This is especially relevant now with the public displeasure towards the work tax (that the eUS government hadn't set or been given a chance to change yet).

From everyone that I've spoken to or heard speaking on the subject, it seems pretty unanimous that we all want the work tax to 1%. However, when this tax was implemented into the game, we didn't (and don't) have a congress to change this. So, it's set at it's default of 25%.

A lot of people are losing hundreds to thousands of USDs a week due to this. Understandably so, the people are upset. Both young and old. However, to target your outrage at the government is beyond ridiculous in this spot. As I've said many times, my primary enjoyment of this game is the media outlet.

I'm all for questioning the government and keeping them accountable. That's part of the fun of playing journalist on this game. But everyone should understand this: when you attack the government with a baseless cause, it's counter productive. Instead of being the oppressed citizens, you become the rebels without a cause. And you look ignorant, honestly.

Of course, this is all just a game. But if you're going to speak out on something so strongly, come with a fact based argument. By all means, attack the government when they're truly wrong and I'll be right there with you. The work tax situation just isn't the moment for it.

The Numbers
The work tax isn't going to be accurately accounted for because 1)I don't understand it as is, many people have different numbers and 2)if we have congress this month, it's going to change. Once it's updated, maybe I'll do a follow up.

And for what it's worth, when I wanted to write this article, a few different programs closed or were changed to something else.

So, income tax is 25%. Based off the market as it is when I'm publishing this article, the highest paying job is 18 USD. That's 4.5 USDs a day from the income tax. I've seen people saying numbers from 150-250 and possibly higher for the work tax. Let's go with 250 USDs, but lower it by 96%. Reason being, because that would be the same effect of having a work tax of 1%.

That would bring someone who pays 250 USDs in work tax to pay 10 USDs. Now we're talking 14.5 USDs a day in taxation. 101.5 USDs a week. 1,781.5 USDs a week at the current work tax rate for someone who's paying 250 a day.

Government Welfare
Note: If you're self sufficient and don't use government welfare programs, none of this obviously applies to you. Just 'cause I feel like someone will write that.

eUS currently has 7.4k citizens, average level at 23. I'm level 26 and ranked 2,825th. Take that into consideration as well.

Meals on Wheels
If you're under level 25, you get 500 energy/health/wellness/whatever you want to call it. With current market food prices, this is worth 8.12 - 14.5 USDs. 56.84 - 101.5 USDs weekly.

Moving Cost Program
Simple enough. If you have over 500 strength, you can use this program. It gives you 20 USDs a day for traveling, 140 a week.

Bank Up 2 Strength Up
The threshold to qualify for this program is levels 21-28. Outside of that, this program has way too many variables for me to give one simple formula. I'll simply speak on what I got through this program. After a week of filling this out, I received 1.7 gold. Granted, I qualified for most of the extra incentives, but regardless. That's what I know I got.

With gold currently sitting at 209 per, that's 355.3 USD worth of gold for the week.

There are other programs listed in the latest DoE article, but I've been in both of the IRC rooms and they've been dead whenever I've tried to use them. So I can't speak on how much they actually give out or how often, I wouldn't know. For objectivity's sake, I won't include what they claim to give out.

That's all for welfare, totaling to 596.8 USD worth of items per week through government welfare. If you're a more pro-government guy, you can go ahead and include the other IRC programs and what USAF branches give to their soldiers if you feel like doing so.

And with the tax rate everybody ideally wants, we pay 101.5 weekly in taxes. I fully understand that's currently not the case, but that's not by the government's will. Blame the people who run this game if you're going to blame anyone.

596.8 USDs given to you by the government a week, minus the 101.5 in ideal taxes leaves the average citizen who applies and qualifies for all these programs with a 495.3 surplus in items' worth. Again, that's not counting government sponsored MUs' supplies.

So, yeah. The work tax f*cks things up for a lot of citizens, both young and old. Nobody's happy with it. But chill out, for now. Nobody wants the current situation.

And if you're getting screwed by the work tax, don't work your companies for the time being. It's looking good that we'll have congress on the 26th and that this will be changed. Personally, I stopped working after the 2nd day of the work tax being implemented when I realized I was losing like 15-25 USDs a day (dat basic company ish).

'Til next time eMurica, and hopefully with better, more substantive news. Pce.
