Eerlijk over EDEN / honest about EDEN

Day 1,890, 13:31 Published in Netherlands Netherlands by Zeeuwsmeisje
In the past months the sense of brotherhood in EDEN has been questioned by several players in the eNetherlands. The main reason why we are having a referendum in the upcoming days. Although there was reason for complaint, in his former position of CP Van Spijck fought hard for 6 months to achieve change within the alliance, and he gained the trust of the majority of the other members, enough to vote him into the position of Supreme Commander. About a month ago, under Van Spijck a new HQ was formed, with players from smaller countries too.

We can honestly say we started off in good faith, we gave it our very best, and despite the hurdles we had to take, we made progress. But of course, not everyone in EDEN was pleased with our ambition to restore democracy and brotherhood to a level where it would seriously mean something when expressed that all be equal. What we for instance didn’t do was give in to the demands of the larger countries for prio whenever they wanted (without informing us upfront on plans), and especially among some ‘key-countries’ as they consider themselves grew dissatisfaction for the ‘lack of a military strategy’.

In the summit last Sunday, a vote of confidence took place for the position of the SC. Although some attacks were personal (based on few incidents on IRC), most were addressed to the functioning of the whole team. Since we were indeed a team, and we take responsibility for all that went down, most members of the team chose to resign along with Van Spijck.

Now, we are not saying we were the best HQ ever and we did not make mistakes. But it doesn’t take a mastermind to figure out this was bound to happen at some point. Still, we had confidence in the majority that voted the HQ in place. What we did not see coming, however, was what went down when it came to voting. As we in private were told by more than one country that their stronger brother had put pressure on the way they would vote. That was even a shock to us.

Without going into further detail, since summits are confidential, it is clear that some brothers feel they are more equal than others. This confirms us in our belief that among players the sense of brotherhood is still alive, but EDEN is not the place to find it anymore.

This may come to you as a surprise, since we all have been putting so much effort in, also in trying to convince you to fight for the brotherhood. What can we say. We are proud we can say we didn’t just abandon ship, at least we fought for it. We have given it a fair chance, in return they gave us more than enough reason to vote for leaving EDEN.
