Dire times

Day 2,717, 23:53 Published in Australia Australia by Callumh123

Welcome eAustralia, it has been a while since I have written to you. As you can most likely imagine, there is quite a lot of work involved in university. It has been what's kept me from writing a long winding article. Today I hope to break this trend, momentarily anyway.

5 days from now the Country President elections will be held, as they are each month. eAustralia has generally been rich in political leaders if anything else. As varied as Patti to sir_c0nstant and so forth, we have had strong leaders with clear visions for the nation. No matter which side of the divide.

In this upcoming election we currently have two choices: pr3zzy and blackwood. Pr3zzy has been banned previously on another account for multing and is currently operating a second account, unless you of course buy the fact that his 'friend' is operating it. He can be deceitful (admittedly, so have most others) and acted as an attack dog, and is enthusiastic about getting to the top, no matter what.

blackwood is silent and uninspiring. Worst than that his intentions are less clear than pr3zzy. He was elected Country President in November last year, a nothing term of sought. A trend that developed throughout last year with other Country Presidents.

Neither of these candidates you would say is fit for office, at least at this present time.

It is disappointing as an onlooker to see eAustralia so bereft of decent political talent. The tried and tested such as myself, Infowar and Saiwun to name a few should not need to be stepping forward only due to the lack of talent.

And let us be honest for at least a brief time and say that would be the only reason we would be running. It was the main reason I ran last time, it is the reason why Infowar was running this election (by the way his endorsement of blackwood because the Varnish like him is deplorable at best).

Rusty D has been an admirable servant in the position recently, the only real new leader of the nation. And he has been driven out, for what I would presume is sinister peddling by the ambitious, but lacking the talent.

It is tough to provide a reasonable answer on what to do in such adversity. Is it just the case that as a nation we are simply lacking a new batch of decent leaders?

Or is it more a product of the eAustralian culture, that ad hominem attacks are preferred over honest discourse?

Back a few years ago people would go out of their way to attempt character assassinations against political enemies. This is undeniable, but this mostly emanated because of a difference in opinion that then stemmed into a dislike of the person.

It appears in today's society this is reversed and players are going out of their way to attack someone's point of view even if they agree, because it is politically pertinent.

It's time more players stood up for public positions to take control from the current political establishment. Though this is unlikely because of how indifferent society is, unless someone is making enough bark to force us to cry out in outrage (these people will generally not have a good understanding of the situation).

So whoever happens to be reading this, and has aspirations about taking the next step. Don't do it in the dark, work hard and get yourself elected. It is how all the greats did it.
