Day One Plans

Day 3,027, 18:20 Published in USA USA by Israel Stevens

Here’s What We’ll do on Day One

I’ve actually gone to bed thinking about eRepublik. Which is sick and weird. But mostly sick. I’m excited to be President. I’m excited to get back into the game. Not eRepublik the game, but the game of running the country, foreign affairs, and dealing with Congress. I am legitimately looking forward to rolling out of bed on Sunday morning, and addressing my cabinet for the first time.

These things are not set in stone of course. I need your help to get it done.

But I am excited about the possibility of adding a third CP medal to my rack, some four years after my last one. The chance to attack problems head on is exciting.

So let’s talk about what we’re going to do on day one. And not just the part where IRC rooms are handed over, and forum access is granted. Not the boring, technical stuff. But the stuff that matters.

-Open a thread on the forum where you can yell at me. Or ask questions. I’ve done this the last two times I was President. Here’s the first. And here’s the second one. It’s a little cheesy, but I legitimately enjoy answering the questions during the campaign, and this it the best way to get that rush.

-Open a discussion with Congress about Tax and Spend vs Hoarding. I have no particular horse in this race. I don’t WAM. I rarely fight. So I’ll leave it up to Congress to decide what path we should take. Should we seek out a meaningful war? Or should we sit back and save some cash. It’s all the same to me. I’ve got other things I want to work on.
This doesn’t mean we won’t defend ourselves if attacked, or take a pass on any offensive opportunities that come our way. But there is a difference between trying to force a war, and responding to a situation.

-Discuss with my Secretary of State the situation in Asia, and how to shore up (if it needs shoring) a particular country’s alliance. The additions (there’s another one likely coming) to Pacifica aren’t without their own ripple effects. It’s an issue that needs to be discussed, at least in the sense that I need to have a full understanding of it.
(Yes, I am intentionally being vague, which I hate. But it is out of respect to not only our allies, but to our President. This is his policy victory, not mine.)

-Publish an article. I know. Crazy.

-Have the USAF CO finish his briefing. He started it tonight. But I needed another beer, and then got distracted. He had logged off IRC by the time I got back. ilu hale!

-Give Pfeiffer something to do. He’s going to complain about it. But he will still be intrigued, despite his protests.

-Have people that know people, tell me who to send friend requests to. Because everyone I used to know is super dead (prophet 🙁 ). Except that British dude Kravenn (or however he spells it). But I never liked him anyways. Only tolerated him as a favor to Artela (and sort of Inwegen. Ok, mostly Inwegen). Also pretty sure he’s not British.

Look, I’m not promising that I’m going to fix the divide in our country. I’m not going to do that. Like, at all. I’ll try not to make it worse, but I can’t promise that either 🙂.
I’m not promising to lower taxes, I’m not promising war, or a higher reserve. I’m really not promising much.

My only promise is to attack things with the minimum amount of vigor that was needed the last time I did all of this. When this job was so time consuming that it was rare to have 2 terms, not the norm. The bar was simply higher.

And yeah, the game is crappy. And probably not doing great. But a lot of us still care. I know that I do, or I would have left a long time ago. So let’s act like we care. Let’s have a cabinet that cares.

If you would like to ask me a question, or just yell at me about stuff, shoot me a PM.

Otherwise, make sure you get out there and vote on Saturday.
