Common Sense

”If we do not hang together, we shall surely hang separately.” ~Thomas Paine

I have remained silent on a few of the following matters for too long. Too many people, too many institutions think they are right, when, in fact, they are not. Prepare for a wall of text.

Let me begin with the JCS.

I spent the majority of my e-life in the eUS Military. In fact, I was in the National Guard for over a year. I stood by the military for as long as I did because of the community (which is, imo, one of the best), not because I agreed with everything every leader had to say. In fact, anyone in the National Guard can tell you that I was a staunch opponent to Bradley Reala. I think the drama that followed the split could have been toned down, or even avoided if Brad had stepped down.

Anyways, as a former president that had his orders ignored by the JCS, I believed that the institution needs reform. I still do. I believe the split itself was necessary, however. The eUS Military could have been a hostile place for people with the strict rules, and secrecy, but that’s an argument for another time.

I believe that the President’s orders should be put above the military’s orders. For every military/militia. I do not agree with how the JCS decided to fight elsewhere, and pretty much leave us up a creek without a paddle.

That being said, if they wanted to fight somewhere else, they should have told the president himself, and asked him to re-assess priorities. The president’s word is final. If he makes a decision that hurts the country, congress will deal with him (see: Impeachment).

I also think it is ridiculous that they won’t accept funding. That only helps the institution. You have to give up a roster. Big deal. It’s not like we didn’t have matching avatars, or anything.

The Executive

”The most formidable weapon against errors of every kind is reason.”

I think this was a little extreme. I also think the anti-JCS attitude needs to be dropped. They’re independent, yes. They don’t always fight where you want, yes. What does bitching about it in front of everyone accomplish? So, you beat your chest and put them down. What does that actually get done, other than piss them off even more?

If you answered nothing, then you sir, have Common Sense.

The only way we will win battles is by coordinating damage from all sources. And if we alienate one, we lose so much potential.

The JCS are still one of the largest damage producers in the nation. Alienating them will only hurt the nation. We need them. So drop the attitude, be prepared to work with people you may not like (I have to deal with Pfeiffer every 25th, don’t I?), and try to make the nation stronger. It’s what you were elected (or appointed by the person that was elected) to do!

The NSC

A lot of people have been throwing out the idea of scapping an “official” military, and send all money to the NSC to have the units compete for funding.

Why are we not doing this? This way, one unit does not get special treatment. We would all be on the same level. We would all have an equal chance, regardless of our leaderships’ styles, to receive funding. This competition could have some retention benefits (people would want to stick around to make their unit #1), as well as provide some friendly competition to see who is truly stronger when we are all on the same level.
