Common Sense
Haliman
I have remained silent on a few of the following matters for too long. Too many people, too many institutions think they are right, when, in fact, they are not. Prepare for a wall of text.
Let me begin with the JCS.
I spent the majority of my e-life in the eUS Military. In fact, I was in the National Guard for over a year. I stood by the military for as long as I did because of the community (which is, imo, one of the best), not because I agreed with everything every leader had to say. In fact, anyone in the National Guard can tell you that I was a staunch opponent to Bradley Reala. I think the drama that followed the split could have been toned down, or even avoided if Brad had stepped down.
Anyways, as a former president that had his orders ignored by the JCS, I believed that the institution needs reform. I still do. I believe the split itself was necessary, however. The eUS Military could have been a hostile place for people with the strict rules, and secrecy, but that’s an argument for another time.
I believe that the President’s orders should be put above the military’s orders. For every military/militia. I do not agree with how the JCS decided to fight elsewhere, and pretty much leave us up a creek without a paddle.
That being said, if they wanted to fight somewhere else, they should have told the president himself, and asked him to re-assess priorities. The president’s word is final. If he makes a decision that hurts the country, congress will deal with him (see: Impeachment).
I also think it is ridiculous that they won’t accept funding. That only helps the institution. You have to give up a roster. Big deal. It’s not like we didn’t have matching avatars, or anything.
The Executive
”The most formidable weapon against errors of every kind is reason.”
I think this was a little extreme. I also think the anti-JCS attitude needs to be dropped. They’re independent, yes. They don’t always fight where you want, yes. What does bitching about it in front of everyone accomplish? So, you beat your chest and put them down. What does that actually get done, other than piss them off even more?
If you answered nothing, then you sir, have Common Sense.
The only way we will win battles is by coordinating damage from all sources. And if we alienate one, we lose so much potential.
The JCS are still one of the largest damage producers in the nation. Alienating them will only hurt the nation. We need them. So drop the attitude, be prepared to work with people you may not like (I have to deal with Pfeiffer every 25th, don’t I?), and try to make the nation stronger. It’s what you were elected (or appointed by the person that was elected) to do!
The NSC
A lot of people have been throwing out the idea of scapping an “official” military, and send all money to the NSC to have the units compete for funding.
Why are we not doing this? This way, one unit does not get special treatment. We would all be on the same level. We would all have an equal chance, regardless of our leaderships’ styles, to receive funding. This competition could have some retention benefits (people would want to stick around to make their unit #1), as well as provide some friendly competition to see who is truly stronger when we are all on the same level.

good article!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, not that often do I see actual common sense. Good article!
Well said
Nb, nb. Maybe even PRESTIGE WORLDWIDE-worthy.
Common sense is sadly uncommon. Glad to see it here!

???? are you talking about this http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/1-2-3-plan-the-solution-1871469/1/20
And the thing is the President should be commander in cheif, making military orders that supersede any other orders,of course with the advice of intelligent military leaders.
"The only way we will win battles is by coordinating damage from all sources. And if we alienate one, we lose so much potential."
A lot of minis, and in turn, campaigns, are decided by small margins. Makes your opening quote quite apt.
is not really a wall of text
Could've been a hostile place?
It WAS a hostile place for anyone with an independent train of thought unless you got to be the one pushing the others' buttons.
I like this.
And the thing is the President should be commander in chief, making military orders that supersede any other orders,of course with the advice of intelligent military leaders.
He or she is a person playing a game (I am NOT in the military in RL) and I am according to the eUS, I am not in the military playing a game either.
Words of wisdom.
"He or she is a person playing a game (I am NOT in the military in RL) and I am according to the eUS, I am not in the military playing a game either. "
Except SOMEONE has to give a group of players who coalesce under an assumed national ID a direction and he/she is popularly chosen by those players within that group who cared to vote. I don't like the RL US president and never voted for him, but I mostly respect the need for the office and the guidance it provides
Good article.
I am not a fan of having everyone compete for the funding. I don't like the loose and whimsical nature of a militia. Maybe it is my RL military service kicking in, but I wouldn't join a militia. I would just self fund and fight on my own. We need an official military unit and the one we have now works great.
@Technician: Respect the office, not the person. The president is the Commander in Chief and as a soldier, you follow the orders that come from the office. I personally am not thrilled with how A2 has handled this. I likely wont vote for him. However, so long as he holds that office and I wear a uniform, I will fight were he tells me to.
A bunch of people in the NSC competing for money might work, as long as the people in the NSC all agreed they had to follow the same orders. Anyway, there's no point to such a drastic change because no one is saying there is any problem with how funds are distributed now.
...the ePresident no matter who he or she has is a person playing a game like you or me.... The difference is maybe they enjoy the game more than me, I have started to learn to hate this game.
@Avruch: Actually quite a few people are seeing a problem with the way money is disbursed. I suggest you read most of the articles out recently. The people are coming out of the woodwork suggesting that the eUSAF get their funding the same was as the Militia's do and other changes that would take was is still in essence a puppet army put together under false pretenses and make them the equal of everyone else.
Personal opinion here: It doesnt have a chance in happening. Those who spent the year or so plotting how to destroy the JCS will never allow their puppet replacement military to lose one inch of pilfered ground. Hell they turned a private militia into an official branch so they could get more of the funding pie with out having to jump through hoops monthly so I honestly doubt they will allow any change to their baby.
On the off chance it happens, it would benefit ALL military units but I also dont see the JCS taking funding. When we parted, we started a path to be totally self sufficient and its worked.
The one thing I would like to see is for a President to actually mean what he says when he claims he will work with the JCS Military instead of what we've had for months in the form of promises and overt gestures which are really nothing more than "Lets get their damage then piss on them" However this too will never come to be until we excise the cancer that is the "Elite" class and their inability to realize not everyone in this game wants to be a brownnosing suckup who spends more time plotting how to gain power than fighting for the nation.
Good article and agreed, yes the JCS does do a lot of damage for eAmerica imho that is what counts. I like to play this game because I play for the cause, not the egos.

Hate to disagree sir but this article doesn't qualify for WoT status. I know, I've created a few! xD Also I agree with every word. The funding part doesn't concern me, I've said my piece elsewhere and have been told I didn't know anything. (Short version of response is, I now have my own small MU and we self fund.)
@Technician, I pass on some good advice that kept me from quitting. Do what ever you find to do here that is fun for you and forget the rest. It's amazing how, when you quit trying to win all the time, you start to enjoy what you're doing. I stopped trying to do stuff and now I'm busier than ever.
nONE SHALL PASS.
okay, before I even read this...the real quote is "If we don't stand together..." I'm pretty sure of that.
now, on to reading this.
Cant touch this!...accept you...you can touch
and you are correct sir i thought the same thing haha

APOLOGY REJECTED 😛
This wasn't retarded
"the ePresident no matter who he or she has is a person playing a game like you or me"
If we start with that we can stop here right now. After all HisAirness is also just a dude from Croatia and I'm pretty sure CyberWitch has a RL somewhere too.
Sure this is a game and like any game in the world it has rules. If you don't like the rules then maybe the game is not right for you...
Are you discriminating on the basis of real-life nationality? Indeed, you are. Your attacking their character based on their real-life nationality. This game has lovely rules - none of which are found on the eusaforums.
In-game rules are simple enough. They can be found here:
http://www.erepublik.com/en/terms-and-conditions
Large amounts of meta-gaming via "constitutions", "congressional and military role-play", and other varieties of non-sense are what cause dilemmas. So, strip away the meta-game and guess what! We are all three-clickers. No matter HOW active. We are doing NOTHING in-game that we aren't already doing. Congress can pass a law making x group the official military of the country on the forums - but that means diddly squat in-game. Just saying.
Too much role-play - and larger-then-life egos is the root of the problem.
there's "united we stand, divided we fall"-- from which was derived the "...surely we will hang separately" line. both are accurate and in common use.
You'll never forget your verb forms if you remember "the man who was hung was well hanged."
Good article. Working toward progress and not dwelling on drama. Thank you Hali.
I rarely comment on eUSA articles, but here goes:
"So, strip away the meta-game and guess what! We are all three-clickers... Too much role-play - and larger-then-life egos is the root of the problem."
The role-play is what makes this otherwise really drab game fun (you're not really playing for the awesome graphics or game mechanics, are you?!?). If you like clicking on a button over and over again, why don't you try FarmVille on Facebook?
(Full Disclosure: I don't play FarmVille)
I play to get the hot chicks from this game.
"@Avruch: Actually quite a few people are seeing a problem with the way money is disbursed. I suggest you read most of the articles out recently. Well, Relorian, I've read most of the articles and I'm not seeing it. Some people who don't know anything are complaining about the difference in the way USAF and OMS are funded, but the people actually *IN* those groups don't seem to be objecting, and certainly their leaders are not. The JCSF seems perfectly happy to have no funding, too. So, in a situation where most people seem content with the way funding is distributed, it makes no sense for us to make a dramatic change. There will always be a few malcontents, policy decisions need to have a more rational basis.
As for your "puppet army" comment... I notice people stopped referring to the JCSF as the "premier fighting force" in the eUSA. That's wise, because the "puppet army" routinely doubles (or more) the damage of the JCSF - despite claims that the JCSF has plenty of funding and doesn't need more.
ooooo
tl;dr btw
Oh, and re Jason Stiltner, who wrote "Are you discriminating on the basis of real-life nationality? Indeed, you are. Your attacking their character based on their real-life nationality. This game has lovely rules - none of which are found on the eusaforums."
If you were referring to Penegrin, you need to re-read that comment and comments preceding. You obviously misunderstood.
Good article Haliman o7
I am saddened by the lack of boobs but voted anyway

LOL
Government has 5 months to build army and all money from tax payers and still we are about same in damage.
Thank to us government swim in money and can do huge amount of supplies to their army. Thank to us. eUSA have same damage as before and we cost eUSA ZIP, NADA, ZERO, NOTHING.
Enjoy in $. But that is not enough, we shell unconditionally obey to government or we are traitors xD
Last time I checked JCS had 3 times the members of SF but still way below its damage output.
@Penegrin.
More under levels players will still put out less damage than a couple of tanks. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out. Apart from that what branch are you talking about specifically? We're talking about 8 branches as oppose to 1 secular high level branch.
