Choices: Poland vs. Russia and the Road Ahead!

Day 1,939, 21:46 Published in USA Hungary by JyM23

A few days ago we saw Poland NE Russia and after the initial shock/dismay a smile crept across many of our faces. We hoped this was it: the first real crack between TWO and CoT. We’ve backed the right horse and the race is off, it’s just a matter of time before it’s all-out war and a chance to give those goons from TWO hell once again.

It took a couple of days, but CoT declared neutrality in the conflict yesterday. A vote of all CoT CP’s was held but we weren’t invited. Not only that, the vote for our ascension to full-fledged membership has been delayed by another month. Craptacular.

Many think we’re back at square one again without an alliance, so how did this happen? The reasons are complex. First and foremost, we need to understand the goals and motivations of CoT. CoT was created by Bulgaria to replace EDEN. It was created in the image of old mythical EDEN: a real brotherhood which may or may not have ever existed. The motivations behind the alliance are to replace EDEN by offering a defensive alliance where small and large nations have the same voice and the needs of the strong are not placed before the needs of the weak. Their aim is to lure away EDEN members and they are willing to accept anyone except Turkey and maybe Ukraine and Croatia. They wish to bring EDEN to their knees not on the battlefield per se, but diplomatically. Bulgaria has always had a strong diplomatic presence and nothing pleases them more than seeing the former members of EDEN join CoT one by one while Croatia looks on helpless and disgraced.

Now we come to the elephant in the room: the unspoken agreement between CoT and TWO. While EDEN still survives, TWO is the perfect partner for CoT. It’s the bad cop that will do the dirty work of (hopefully) putting EDEN out of its misery, spending massive amounts of money and damage by invading China. CoT as a defensive alliance simply does not have the will to do this imo, but it does serve their purposes. Once EDEN is dissolved, the smaller members will likely run into the arms of CoT since TWO (ACT) has limited appeal. For these reasons conflict between TWO and CoT is unlikely as long as EDEN is still in the picture.

Where does Russia fit into all of this?

Actually they have been kind of straddling the fence between alliances. Everyone thought they would be among the founding members of CoT due to their close relationship with Bulgaria, but after nearly a year they aren’t even trial members. They have been playing a dangerous game seemingly forever, having MPP’s with CoT, Asgard and even TWO members from time to time not counting BRUSsia ofc. In fact they have been surprisingly successful, securing colonies in Norway and more recently Iran. Now it seems the jig might finally be up.

The idea of using Russia as a bridge to China has been floated months ago and as far as I know, Poland and Hungary have been negotiating with them to this among other ends. These negotiations would always start off promising but end with frustration and it seems things finally came to a head. Poland has nothing to gain and everything to lose by attacking Russia. Its bonuses are now vulnerable, but it has the honor of leading the charge against EDEN’s last bastion. Will this offensive be successful? Not likely. EDEN will fight with all it’s might to defend its base of operations. China’s reserves are the biggest the game has ever seen. Serbia has tried tackling them on its own but failed. China will probably NE Poland as soon as they gain a border, long before the Polish-Russian war can be closed and the border will likely be broken in one direct battle and an RW. That is unless China has its hands full with another opponent ofc.

What about us?

By standing by our bro Russia, we have committed a faux pas in the eyes of many CoT members. It is understood that EDEN needs to die and Russia’s (hopefully) short term suffering is seen as a necessary evil. Besides this, many think that Russia should have joined CoT a long time ago. If this were the case they would now have the full support of the alliance, while without it they must pay the price for their indecision. As well, we have been supporting Albania in their effort to liberate themselves, draining TWO and aiding EDEN in the process. While we are not technically fighting against a CoT member, we are indirectly propping up EDEN to the detriment of CoT as well as TWO.

What should we do?

First of all, let’s be honest with ourselves, we like aiding our bros Russia and Albania. At the same time let’s not kid ourselves: we are propping up EDEN. This week has shown that we have the power to re-balance the game. CoT and TWO have suddenly started losing battles because we are fighting for EDEN. If we continue down this road, where will we end up? Not in CoT, that’s for sure.

CoT has its downsides but the alternative is EDEN and we have been down that road before. Let’s not go back there. Let’s accept that Russia needs to take one for the team here, but start a diplomatic effort to ensure they don’t suffer long. Let’s join in on the big final assault on China and secure a bridgehead there that can be used to put distance between us and Poland in case things turn adversarial. Let’s help liberate Pakistan instead of Albania. Let’s put ourselves into CoT’s good books and then into the official alliance roster. Let’s plan ahead and fight for the future, not fight to bring back the past.

Yours truly,
