Alliances: Regional vs. Global

Alliances. One of the oldest traditions of eRepublik. The things that protect nations, but also pull them into war. Every nation in this world has at one point or another, been a part of a Global Military Alliance (most still are). But for many countries, the large scale conflicts they're dragged into are purely the result of their allies calling them for aid. These wars, if lost, prove crushing defeats for not only the alliance, but the nations as well. So the issue on topic is, which are more important, Regional or Global Alliances?

This world has a very surprising lack of regional alliances, most allies see each other from across the world. These help and harm. Global Alliances allow for more strategic placement in a war, more worldwide collection, and more allies. But they also constantly drag nations' armies across the world, sometimes fighting a battle against enemies you don't even know. It also drags weaker nations into wars they aren't prepared to fight, and it thrusts them into the heat of battle. Regional Alliances, on the other hand, provide more of a block structure and a united front. They also serve to keep regions more stable through military unity. But they do lack the global need that does occasionally cause problems, it also isolates them militarily from certain regions. Both of these kinds of alliances have benefits, but both have costs. Having alliances is always good, and having both kinds of alliances is also good, but you must always weigh the costs and benefits of something this important. (And sorry if this article is too much like the last one. I couldn't think of another topic right now, as I am tired.)
