A Social Revolution: The future of the Two Clickers

A Social Revolution: The future of the Two Clickers
With eRepublik Rising have just launched, many people will be anticipating their first fight outside of beta. The military module has been overhauled and a PvP system has been brought back to eRepublik (not that I was around when PvP was used pre-V1). However this new military module will prove a huge obstacle to people who aren’t on the forums or IRC.
Having messed around on beta with a few of my pals, I experienced first hand how easy it is to go around in a group and pick off isolated or inactive players. (To avoid being left dead or stranded on the battlefield, there is a retreat button.)
Before going on to explain how this will lead to the two clickers demise, we have to first consider what kind of player a two clicker is. Effectively, they are people who have not fully embraced the social side of the game or the community that exists out of game. Generally speaking, they are newer players who work in the private sector. Two clickers won’t usually have high strength, either because they don’t play long enough or because by the time they get to a reasonable strength they have been persuaded to use the forums or join the military.
One of the more exciting parts of all of our eLives is the military module and fighting. However, how much enjoyment would you get if you spent 5 minutes on the field as a lone pariah and were promptly picked off by 5 guys with matching avatars. If that happened to me more than once I would quickly become pretty tired with this game.
I think it isn’t unreasonable to assume that whilst on the battle field, a lot of two clickers will be constantly picked off and as a result will lose health and lose the will to play. Anyone who attempts to enter the battlefield on their own will not last very long.
The most obvious way to do this is to integrate two clicking players onto the forums and into the military and IRC. All it takes for them not to get killed quickly is for them to be able to get in touch with military representatives or even just coordinate themselves with fellow friends or even party members. With PvP, there will definately be strength in numbers and we need to do our best to make sure two clickers are in these numbers.
However, the limit here is the will of the two clickers to become integrated into society. These are problems every country is going to face in eRepublik rising, and a concept that is in no way new to players who have been trying to improve retention rates.
Never the less, for your own well being, to improve the enjoyment you get out of the game and the military module, and to embrace what eRepublik is really about you need to become involved in the community. Once you’ve done that you’ll find you make friends and will have people to tackle your adversaries with.
Your survival is now entirely dependant on you embracing the community eRepublik is centered around. Your success is dependant on you joining the Army.

Join the Army!
Get on the forums! http://forums.erepublik.co.uk/">http://forums.erepublik.co.uk/
Move out of United Faildom!
This is annoying to me as I'm effectively a 2-clicker during the summer, concentrating more on my businesses.
No problem before, I'd just fight my five times and log off Buying weapons if it was a particularly important battle. It might be that here I simply don't fight.
Which would be a shame.
Excelent stuff 😁
Still don't understand it 😛

http://free-guns-url does not exist. Try http://chat.mibbit.com/?channel=%23freeguns&server=irc.rizon.net">http://chat.mibbit.com/?channel=%23freeg[..]n.net instead.
At least get on the forum.
Join the army, be the best.
Forum = good
Nice article. The only thing I would say is that using a forum seperate to the game as a vital tool of the game can be a problem.
Everything should be able to be done ingame.
I would say dropping the Daily IRC activity requirement for at least part of the armed forces would have to be a prerequisite before a lot of two-clickers would consider joining up - myself included.
Some of us can be on IRC some of the time, but every day simply isn't possible for many.
There are two basic types of game players: those who enjoy single player mode and those who like multiplayer. eRep has just gone single player unfriendly in a big way and eRep may well have just cut its own throat. Let's be realistic, how many players of V1 could be arsed to join the national forums and try and figure out IRC? (The fact that I persevered and made it myself actually amazes me!) I'm betting that most Single Players (two clickers - who make up the bulk of the community) won't be arsed to take the leap to the social/team player side that the new set up requires to survive and have fun, they'll simply leave and find another game that will give them the level of solo involvment that they want.
I agree Benedict, the G'ment/military has to set up something that can accomodate people who can't/won't use IRC
+1 to Tony83's comment.
I guess I'm a fairly classic "Two clicker".
This was just a five minute part of my day over coffee. Being self-employed, I cannot afford to spend too much time here. (Quiet days I go visit forums that appear to be devoid of much intelligent life).
I have neither the time nor the inclination to 'live another life' in erepublik rising...I shall stick around for a while yet and see if I can survive as a 'two clicker' with few pals, if not, have fun all, I have a real life to live
Two clickers should be encouraged to become artillery, and just plant themselves on the capital - it is the key tile in every battle, and artillery get a bonus there.
"Having messed around on beta with a few of my pals, I experienced first hand how easy it is to go around in a group and pick off isolated"
Was this before or after me and dakota ripped apart half of your group in wargames 😛
But on the subject i agree i thought a good idea would to have kinda like a chat room in the battle screen but i guess that would slow down thee browser even more.Or maybe the government could have something that tells them where the nearest friendly group is.
how about using an external chat site like palringo where we can all chat about stratagy while fighting so it doesn't slow down the site. also it can encourage noobs to ask questions and such
join the army pwn the rest
