A Social Revolution: The future of the Two Clickers

With eRepublik Rising have just launched, many people will be anticipating their first fight outside of beta. The military module has been overhauled and a PvP system has been brought back to eRepublik (not that I was around when PvP was used pre-V1). However this new military module will prove a huge obstacle to people who aren’t on the forums or IRC.

Having messed around on beta with a few of my pals, I experienced first hand how easy it is to go around in a group and pick off isolated or inactive players. (To avoid being left dead or stranded on the battlefield, there is a retreat button.)

Before going on to explain how this will lead to the two clickers demise, we have to first consider what kind of player a two clicker is. Effectively, they are people who have not fully embraced the social side of the game or the community that exists out of game. Generally speaking, they are newer players who work in the private sector. Two clickers won’t usually have high strength, either because they don’t play long enough or because by the time they get to a reasonable strength they have been persuaded to use the forums or join the military.

One of the more exciting parts of all of our eLives is the military module and fighting. However, how much enjoyment would you get if you spent 5 minutes on the field as a lone pariah and were promptly picked off by 5 guys with matching avatars. If that happened to me more than once I would quickly become pretty tired with this game.

I think it isn’t unreasonable to assume that whilst on the battle field, a lot of two clickers will be constantly picked off and as a result will lose health and lose the will to play. Anyone who attempts to enter the battlefield on their own will not last very long.

The most obvious way to do this is to integrate two clicking players onto the forums and into the military and IRC. All it takes for them not to get killed quickly is for them to be able to get in touch with military representatives or even just coordinate themselves with fellow friends or even party members. With PvP, there will definately be strength in numbers and we need to do our best to make sure two clickers are in these numbers.

However, the limit here is the will of the two clickers to become integrated into society. These are problems every country is going to face in eRepublik rising, and a concept that is in no way new to players who have been trying to improve retention rates.

Never the less, for your own well being, to improve the enjoyment you get out of the game and the military module, and to embrace what eRepublik is really about you need to become involved in the community. Once you’ve done that you’ll find you make friends and will have people to tackle your adversaries with.

Your survival is now entirely dependant on you embracing the community eRepublik is centered around. Your success is dependant on you joining the Army.
