Congress Presentation

Day 699, 01:59 Published in Australia Australia by 00quick00

On the 24th of October, I'll be running for Congress. I have no past political experience however I have been playing for a significant amount of time (8 or 9 months now) and are well aware of the current and past issues that plague and continue to plague Australia.

Goals
* Act in the nation's best interests - I know everyone says this but acting in the nation's best interests does not include declaring war on Indonesia so we can once again lose
* Be active! - I've been logging on at least twice daily for a month and will continue to do so throughout my Senate Term. I also have 3 'Hard Worker' medals which proves this for logging in 30 consecutive days in a row.

Taxes
In my opinion raising taxes to bring more money into the nation's coffers so that foreign and local companies can compete without local companies being obliterated is vital to our economy. This will ultimately benefit businesses themselves along with everyday citizens due to low but reasonable prices of Raw Items and Products. However, even though our Treasury may be depleted, we must continue to support new citizens whilst training experienced citizens so that we are prepared for future conflicts should they arise whilst maintaining a reasonable Job Market.

Hospitals
Australia does not need a hospital in neither the Northern Territory, South Australia nor Tasmania. It would be much more effective to sell the hospital and use it to fund other projects that are lacking funds such as weapons and food re-distribution.

Indonesia
Getting back Western Australia should be our top priority since it will ultimately allow us to be self sufficient (Oil) whilst further diminishing the Indonesia Empire. This should be done through diplomatic means even though Indonesian Citizens are largely against the prospect of giving up WA. Engaging in war will ultimately cripple us in the long-run as it did in our last failed attempt of invading Indonesia. Western Australia currently had a Q5 Defence system and a Q4 Hospital, we are not going to be able beat their defence systems nor will we be able to match the power of the Indonesian Empire. Therefore a conservative but persistent diplomatic approach must be taken on securing Western Australia.

Concluding statements
To face the future problems that may plague eAustralia, we must first correct our current and past mistakes. So if you want a sensible, yet left wing leader then please vote for me, but also because election day (October 24th) is my birthday! Yay! 😃 (No joke)

EDIT: Responses to Criticism

Corey Blake: I'm not doing this for personal gain and I never said that raising taxes would create competition. In my opinion Iron taxes need to be raised to 20% or 25% to prevent our Iron economy from being obliterated, either way most Iron companies won't be able to compete and will unfortunately be wiped out. If I were running for personal gain then I would be proposing a 99% tax increase as a protectionist measure, which is pathetic since that would cripple our economy. We cannot have a military dependant on neither foreign imports nor entirely weapons produced in Australia. An embargo from a foreign nation would cripple our ability to fight in a war, even though it is highly unlikely that numerous foreign nations would simultaneously hold sanctions against us. Real world issues must also be considered in that Barak Obama has suggested placing Telecommunication Trade Sanctions on Iran for its nuclear programme. This would likely see Iran being cut off from the rest of the eWorld and eIran’s economy obliterated which is currently driven by a low-priced employment market along with real world Iranian’s inability to afford gold. Since most Iranian Company Owners are from real world Western Nations, any embargo imposed by Barack Obama would see real world Iranians being expelled suddenly from eRepublik while Company Owners are left with a non-existent workforce. This would clearly inflate Iron and Weapons prices globally and would make any Weapons unaffordable for the average citizen in Australia if we were to have a military dependant on foreign companies for its very existence. Therefore we must have a redundant Weapons and Iron economy so that goods shortages and high prices caused by local companies can be offset by cheap, redundant foreign companies. If we do rely on foreign companies then this will ultimately disadvantage eAustralians in that salaries will fall due to fewer companies actively producing goods and will result in stagflation as foreign companies and nations expand and grow. Going down the road of out sourcing our economy is tempting; however it will ultimately be detrimental to Australia. Who will buy their products when no one has any money themselves?

Regarding Hospitals, when those regions become viable (Pop 1000+) then it would be wise to place a Hospital in those regions. However since only 13% of Australia’s residents live in regions currently without a hospital, it does not make sense to supply them with a Q5 Hospital. If we were to sell the Hospital instead of providing it to SA, then we could supply each South Australian with fourteen Q1 Weapons, or hundreds to our Drop Bears. So we can either choose to establish a Hospital in a region with a weak military, or we could create a strong military that can use one of the other three hospitals in Australia.

Getting back Indonesia will be a hard task since it will cost thousands of more gold. Many Indonesians have now realised that WA will not be back in Australia's hands for a very long time so the attention surrounding the issue has died down, although I'm sure Indonesian Citizens do not want to see the eIndo Empire crumble. Therefore I will reiterate as I did in my initial article that diplomatic channels must be utilised to re-secure Western Australia since we'll never be able to forcefully take it nor pay for it via reparations.

And the comment made about 'future problems', we will have a problem if our military equipment consists entirely of weapons from foreign companies. Once again reiterating my previous points. 🙂
