Interview with Dubhthaigh

Day 691, 13:36 Published in Ireland Ireland by LordoIrish

1. So Dubhthaigh how did you find eRepublik
I found Erepublik back in beta when i became disillusioned with another simulation game - Simcountry. I was introduced through my good friend John_Jay, who at the time was a citizen and government member in the eUS. A few months ago I moved to a new university IRL and my Beta account went inactive and died, but recently I signed up again and I am determined to do the best I can.

2. What kept you going?
I really love the politics in game - interacting with real people whilst holding responsibility allows me to continually test myself. I also enjoy coming up with new initiatives and the general problem-solving that goes with my job.

3. Who were you first friends?
As I mentioned before, John_Jay was my first real Erepublik friend. I also hooked up with Admiral Flaco, Jason and Navy, all from eSingapore. They are the people who got me interested in running a business and politics.

4. How did they help and influence you
At that time all of them were involved in cabinet positions in eSingapore, I guess I aspired to be like them - making a difference and improving one of the smaller and developing nations. They also proved to me that a small team of dedicated people can really change things.

5. What made you go into politics?
I think that the direct nature of Erepublik really encouraged me - in real life you have to wade through beaurocracy to get mainly uncertain results. In game you can create, nurture and implement an idea, and see solid proof that it is helping.

6. How well do you think your campaign went.
My campaign to be congressman? Or to be ISD president? In both cases I tried to keep publicity and media hype to a minimum. I know I bang on about it alot, but I think people should be elected on their merits as a player, not their ability to write convincing articles or eye-catching adverts.

7. How did winning the congress seat feel
Having won a seat, I felt a sense of pride more than anything. To be asked to represent citizens' views in the Dáil shows that people feel you can act responsibly and in a moral way. There was also some satisfaction involved as I pursued a policy of free voting and non-partisanship in the ISD, meaning votes were uninfluenced and more democratic than people might be used to.

8. Why do you not own a newspaper?
I do in fact own a newspaper - the one in my business org Viva Voce. When i first started with the business and newspaper I had hoped to keep it seperate from my citizen account, not because I was practicising bad habits, just to keep things neat and tidy 🙂 Also, I am not a great fan of personal publicity (I appreciate the irony of me saying that in a public interview!!!).

9. What do you plan on doing during your term?
I really want to get the Irish economy growing and becoming more active. As always, results won't be immediate, but I am looking very hard at the idea of Banc bonds, state loans, and other ways of getting money flowing more easily. Hopefully in a few weeks time we will be able to sit back, look at Ireland, and say: "We are one of the happiest, liberated and efficient nations in Erepublik. We all like to have a good laugh too."

10. Do you see yourself going far in Politics?
Even though I have gone pretty far in Irish politics in a short amount of time, I am not very ambitious. I only accept a job if I believe I can do well in. Only a madman would want the pressures of being a president!

11. Do you think you will run for president in the future?
Read above! 😁

12. Anything else
Have fun, play well and respect others!
