Updates, and Thank You!

Day 686, 20:37 Published in Austria Austria by Rangeley

First of all, I would like to thank all Austrians who participated in this election. More people voted this time than have ever before in Austria, at least since V1 was implemented, and possibly even before that. That in itself is a pretty cool accomplishment, which shows we are growing as a nation. I would also like to thank Metallon, for helping to keep it a clean and respectful campaign. The election here went smoothly, which can't be said of all places. That reflects well on Austria.

Metallon has additionally been helpful in the transition process, transferring passwords to organizations, and Jazar has been helpful in the PEACE GC forums, granting me access. The process is going smoothly, people have been very helpful and cooperative, and for this I am grateful.

Updates

Today I have been working to finalize my cabinet. In this area, there are a few changes.

Minister of Finance

Due to time constraints and other committments, Olorum has taken himself out of the running for Minister of Finance, and expressed his apologies. In his stead, I have talked to Dishmcds, and he has accepted the position. Dishmcds is a well respected member of the Erepublik community, and recent immigrant to Austria. He has served in many different roles and capacities across the world since the Beta era, including the presidency of three nations, ministerial positions, and military positions, such as his current role in the PEACEKeepers. He is one of the few people I remember seeing in the Beta era that is still active, and it is a great honor to, so many months later, have him on board and serving Austria in my cabinet.

Minister of Defense

For the Ministry of Defense, matheusbauer has decided to dedicate his time to helping Austria through the PEACEKeepers organization, and declined to serve another term as Minister of Defense. After talking with Karantanec, he has agreed to serve as my Minister of Defense. Karantanec has a long history in Austrian politics, and has achieved the rank of Field Marshall in the military. I consider him a friend and was sad to see him move to Slovenia, so I am quite glad that he has chosen to come back and serve in this role for us.

Minister of Health

With Hrvat busy for the next few months, it was necessary to pick a new person to lead the ministry of health. For this task, I have chosen RexLudi, and he has accepted. He has been dedicated, and involved in Austrian politics, and is willing to carry out the role of Minister of Health. In that capacity, he will continue the work that Hrvat began, providing moving tickets to those who need to move to Styria for hospital access, and gifts for those who need to get their health up to 40, to participate in war games.

Minister of Immigration

For this position, I was looking for someone who has shown energy and dedication towards Austria - as well as someone who is relatively new. Sometimes, newer people are more perceptive about what makes a place what it is, in a way that a long time citizen might simply take for granted, and therefore they can more easilly identify reasons that people would want to come here. Nicholas Miles fits both of these criteria, actively participating in discussions and issues, while also being a fresh face in the Austrian political scene. I am glad to have him in the cabinet and look forward to working with him.

This completes the cabinet, which consists of the following people:

Chief of Staff - Lynari
Minister of Foreign Affairs - Travis James
Minister of Finance - Dishmcds
Minister of Defense - Karantanec
Minister of Health - Rexludi
Minister of Immigration - Nicholas Miles

Outside of the cabinet, there is one policy announcement.

PEACEKeepers

Austria has taken part in this group by contributing troops from the Austrian Special Forces, or ASF, to fight in battles across the world. After talking with organizers of the PEACEKeepers, they have agreed to respect my wishes that Austrian forces not fight against any nation's territorial integrity. Therefore, the elements of the ASF involved in the PEACEKeepers will not be asked to participate in operations invading another nation, or holding territory already taken from a nation through war. Instead, they will be utilized only in operations in defense of our allies, and the territorial integrity of their original regions.

While this does not necessarilly stop individuals from taking part in battles they choose to, it does mean that the Austrian Army will not officially take part in this particular type of operation. I'm pleased that they are willing to accomodate this wish, as it enables the ASF to both remain involved with the PEACEKeepers, and still stay true to the policy that the Ministry of Defense has put in place.

On the Agenda

A focus in the near term is on regrouping the diplomatic corps, reviewing reports from various sectors and nations, and attempting to forge working relationships with our immediate neighbors. I intend to keep everyone updated on this process, as well as other ongoing issues - and once again, I would like to thank all of Austria for participating in the election yesterday, and for being granted this opportunity to serve Austria.
