Announcing my Resignation from the Army

Day 657, 11:05 Published in USA Canada by Daniel Hawkins

Dear my fellow Army and friends alike,

Today's the day, I'm saddened to say (hey, that rhymed! see what I did there...) I'm going to have to retire from my spot as Army Major, executive officer of the fifth division.

Over my time in the Army, I've met many great people. Made many friends, had a great time, and whenever I didn't do something right, whenever I fell down, the Army was always there to pick me right back up. I was looking through the forums one day, discovered a thread titled "What does the Army mean to you?" Boomer Boris explained it perfectly with this quote:

"The Army to me it: A great community, I mean yeah, we listen to orders and fight where we're supposed to, but that's all of 5 clicks. Being in irc on the forums and talking to everyone there is the real fun in it." - Boomer Boris

That's what I've always thought of the Army. Yeah, we do what we're told, yeah, we'll take it an extra mile, yeah, we fight, but most of all, it's a community. A community of dedicated individuals making our country better. The Army's like no other, it's not the TD, it's not the HG, the MI, heck, not even the Airborne or Marines. Each branch tells it's own story. The Army, in my personal experience, was the experience of an eLife time.

A little history of me in the Army: I joined a few months ago, wanting to get more involved in the game. I was a private under (I think) Raoul Juke, back when NXNW was the Colonel of the 4th Division. I was you're everyday soldier: I checked in, I fought where I was told, I occasionally got on IRC, I was on the forums quite often. I probably wasn't the best soldier out there, as I just did what was required of me and nothing more.

Then, one day in the Army changed my Army experience forever. Knojerakk sent a Army-wide PM, telling us that they're creating a new division, the newly mechanized fifth division, and were looking for four commanding officers. Needless to say, still wanting to be more involved, I applied, and quite honestly, I didn't expect to get the job. His reply? "Sure, we'll set you up with roster access, you have the job." To say the least, I was like: "YIPEEEE" - well, you get the point. I got started right away, being the first to hire an executive officer in Hadrian X, a newer player with a huge upside potential, still in the MI. I snatched him into the Army and named him platoon executive officer. As other officers hired their executive officers, Hadrian was extremely active and helpful in sending out orders, keeping me up to date, editing the roster, roll call, and such.

However, as he progressed, he was put in charge of another platoon in the fifth division - the fourth platoon. I had to hire a new XO. I didn't want to look out of range again, so I turned my head to my own platoon. I chose yet another great officer in Tresville, an extremely active, witty guy who was again, not only extremely helpful, but very active in sending out roll call, orders, checking in, etc. Also, as I chose Tresville as my executive officer, Hadrian was climbing the ranks yet again, reaching the rank of Army Major, division executive officer under some_mascot. some_mascot later resigned, however, leaving Hadrian as colonel of the 5th division. He chose me, needless to say, where I stand today, as Major of the 5th Division. Tresville took over the commanding officer job, and has done a great job to this day.

So, that's where I stand. And now, I'm going to have to give this up because of real life duties, something I really didn't want to do, but have to. I'm going to give a little attempt at compiling a list of all the people I want to thank, although I am 100% sure I left out names.

To you all: O7

MAJOR EDIT: Don't expect this to be the last of me. I have something up my sleeve this month.
