The Ad Campaign And A Brief Note On My First Week As A TD
einberliner
So the citizen ads I promised were posted, and some of you may have seen the international ones in the sidebar (because there's no way to say international except eIreland, despite the fact that's preaching to the choir).
I used the following images:
(only smaller, as I stated before that site resizes
😒)
With the header: Need A Change?
And the ad text: eIreland is a friendly, neutral nation with helpful, experienced citizens. Thinking of moving? Consider eIreland!
The ad linked to Ireland's information page. Interestingly similar ads for Singapore appeared not long after I started the first batch lol. I was originally going to have them link to an article extolling our virtues but I felt I got the main stuff said in the ad text, and people probably wouldn't want to wade through a big article, so I left them as they were.
I did them in batches over a few days, and the last finished in the early part of Tuesday 1st September I believe (I wasn't around much on Tuesday, so I didn't know for sure it had finished until it was almost Wed). I visited IRC the night I did the first batch and asked those assembled for final suggestions on which two countries to market to first. In the end eAustralia and eIndia were chosen.
My original plan was to use 4g of my own for the campaign and 1g for the pre-campaign ads to encourage my fellow eIrish to have their say on which ad pic to use. This was expanded by 3g when Darragh sent some IEP my way for the ads, which came to the vast majority of 3g, so I changed that across to gold and expanded the size of each set.
While the money used was private and not public I'll still list how it was spent, full disclosure seems the best way given it's an easy thing to give.
The following is formatted the following way: # gold spent - How Many Imprints and Where - How many clicks just that set got
2 - 20,000 International - 53
1.5 - 15,000 Australian - 28
1.5 - 15,000 Indian - 19
2 - 20,000 International - 93
It's worth noting also that the eIndian imprints ran for two/three days longer than the international sets (which were exhausted in about three hours) and the Australian set. Most of the clicks had happened early on in the run, so if advertising there again I'd probably go with the minimum 10,000 imprints as the last 5,000 don't seem to have reached overmany people.
There appears to have been three or four additional citizenship requests since the ad run began and, of course, I have no way of knowing if those were as a result of the ad campaign or not.
To be honest I'm not sure how cost effective the strategy was, though I would run another round at some point if I had the gold to spare. If nothing else, even if the response isn't immediate, it points us out as an option to people who might be dissatisfied where they are. In my case that'd be a while as the wars/training wars have eaten up a fair bit of my cash and I'm 150 points from getting five gold at level 16. (That's not a begging notice, I have IEP and gold, I'm doing just fine - just not much easily expendible IEP and gold right this moment).
If anyone else wants to use either of the images and/or the ad text to run a set themselves then I'm happy for them to be used. I don't even mind if permission isn't sought first, so long as the campaign is a positive one.
In other news my first week as a TD has been a busy one with many proposals/debates/etc to get through. I'm starting to get the knack of the best way to go through the forums and everything and get a little more involved in debate, don't think I've made an eejit of myself so far. I'm also watching the presidental campaigns with great interest, I have a feeling it'll be a pretty tight race.
Signing off for now,
Donut

very good.
@ Thank you, TS.
Thank you for taking this on ein. Your hard work is most appreciated.
So has anyone tried the new Flaming Cheeseball flavoured Doritoes? They're quite spicey.
@Uaithne Thank you
@Imp Doritos make me nauseous 🙁
I think the reason that the last 5k don't reach many people, is probably because people look at the advertisement at its first appearance, then don't bother to visit it again.
If the people who get the advertisements are n00bs like me, then they sit there refreshing their home page all day and end up chewing up all the advertisements.
Also, the Firefox browser plugin, Adblock Plus, blocks the in game advertisements. I have mine set up to make an exception, but I imagine it's still counting the blocked advertisement as a 'view.'
Good work though, I hope we can get some more people here (although it's probably a hard sell with the world war on).
And for the record, Doritos make me sick too.
@Ghoti Yeah that's a problem with the game set up that unfortunately we can't really counter. It's why in some ways I think International ads might be better, that way people hitting eRep from all over the world eat up the imprints fast but probably more people are setting them, if that makes sense?
As for doritos - even the smell's enough for me. Pringles make me sick but that's only 'cause I can't stop eating the buggers.
Good job einberliner

@Imperatorl I heard that if you find a Dorrito bag on your bed that it is the calling card for the Swedish Mafia. I'll have to tell that story sometime. lol It's really quite good.
