Derek Apollyon
Well, I'm officially "tossing my hat into the ring." I'm running for Senate in Tasmania
So I shall begin the odious task of convincing you, the voters of eAustralia, to vote for me.
Experience
I bring a very diverse range of skills and experience to whatever I set my sights on doing.
- A programmer IRL (hobbyist)
- Prime Minister of eAustralia (March)
- Been in multiple cabinet positions (Heritage and the Arts, Health, Social Services)
- Been a Senator for eAustralia five times.
- Have a good eye to detail, and that's been demonstrated in the proposals that I've submitted to the Senate
Where I Stand
- I've observed that usually once every election, somebody makes a move to eliminate the VAT on Food. I can say right now without hesitation that it is not needed (and I have the numbers to back that up).
- In terms of WA, I can say that we need to tread carefully, not only is WA a "key" in the eIndo economy, but it is also full of companies that would need to be bought by eAussies; unless I'm mistaken, it'd about double the number of companies we currently have - but it wouldn't double the number of workers we have.
- I feel I must point out that I now agree with the idea of setting up some "Crown Corporation" RM companies in foreign high-productivity regions; provided of course, that they wouldn't undercut the local Medium companies and every effort was made to buy local first (we could even look into the possibility of "selling them off" to investors later on).
I know that some people will cry foul at that concept, and they'll also tell you that the private sector should take care of it. But where is this "private sector"? Has anybody set up and started exporting back? The way I see it is like this: There is a gap in the production of goods that the private sector is unable (maybe even unwilling?) to fill, so it is the duty of the government to fill it.
- Another thing I'd like to "bring to the light" this election is that fact that sometime over the next two weeks or so, we'll have the much anticipated "citizenship feature" in eRepublik. The EI has stated that Congressmen (Senators) will be responsible for approving requests for citizenship. I have already started working on a "eAustralian Citizenship Protocol" that will outline a system to make sure that we're covering all the bases as a defence against possible PTO.
- As for the whole conflict in eNorth America, I will say that the only reason I was fighting there was because I wanted the experience points, and didn't want to support the "aggressive" actions of PEACE GC in order to get them.
But as for eAustralia, I feel we definitely need to come out of our shell, eAustralia is one of the most powerful nations in the southern hemisphere, we could definitely take a more active role in regional affairs.
That wraps up my platform, if anybody has any questions/comments/love letters/whatever, go ahead and drop me a line (my office is usually open - except for Mon, Wed, and Thur from Noon to 5pm)

Good luck DA (First post)
VOTE HIM IN
The title of this article BURNS MY EYES!!!
Other than that - EXCELLENT IDEAS, and I couldn't think of a more experienced person for Senate! Good luck DA!! 😃
good article and would much like to see you back in congress 🙂
my one question is this: you say there is a gap in supply of RM in the aussie market - where is this?
and couldnt it be solved by doing a sort of "worker shuffle" ie grain is very over produced
You're lucky I actually read the article. The title and start of the article were horrific, but when I got to the issues I found myself agreeing with you. In fact as a new player I've been doing a lot of reseach in anticipation of potentially stepping into politics once I'm high enough level, and I have found myself comeing to many of the same positions that you are standing for.
I can't say that I agree with you fighting in eNorth America, even if it was only for experiance, but I think I can forgive that if you do a good job.

Thats why some of us are trying to get the tariffs lower.... to promote the private sector doing this!
@srg91 / Ranger Bob: thanks guys! 😃
@TBA: If one sector is overproducing, wouldn't it also stand to reason that another sector (or sectors) are "hurting" for employees because they're mostly at the overproducing companies? Think of it like a "scale" with the workers as weights and it makes sense.
I like the idea of a "worker shuffle." But say we have three companies, Company A has 17 employees, Company B has 13, and Company C has 10: who decides which one has to "die" in order for the others to get maximum productivity? Which one gets to survive based on the "professional opinion" of the MoI (or whomever is in charge of such a program)?
@HarkTec: What exactly about it was "horrific"? The listing of my experience? My opening "statements"? I'd love for you to elaborate a bit (I love feedback 😉 ).
@AA: While lowering the Tariffs might have the same result, I do believe the costs to be different.
If RM Companies were established by the Gov, they would be able to "ignore" the current Tariff rates, and sell at a decent price to eAus companies.
Wouldn't lowering the Tariff's mean that foreign exporters would be able to come in and undercut the local market? The idea here is to maintain a RM supply, not destroy local jobs. If the Gov were to lower the Tariffs to such a rate as to make the local markets unprofitable, the Gov should reimberse the GM for the cost of the Company.
I assume in your examples they are construction companys? (where it is less relevant 😛)
I was thinking it could maybe be in the form of articles/advertising which would leave it up to the workers to make their own decisions based not only on wage but on the needs of Australia - although its hard to say how effective this would be the cost would be less.
Anyhow, best of luck 😃
Good luck DA, hope we both get in from TAS.
unsub'd leet speak makes my head hurt

Between the Title and the picture you chose, I felt like I was reading 4chan, and it wasn't really until I got to your positions that I got over that feeling. I almost didn't even click on the article, I just was curious as to "what kind of stupidity is this?"
I always like to throw some "random" humour into my articles 😉
