DoE Citizen Mentorship Program Update

Day 520, 14:35 Published in USA USA by Department of Citizen Affairs

The eUSA Citizen Mentorship Program has been running for about 2 months now and we’ve been asked for updates on its status and effectiveness, as well as an overall purpose statement for the program. I want to first start off by informing those who do not know what the eUSA Citizen Mentorship Program is a little bit about this initiative.

The eUSA Citizen Mentorship Program (CMP) is a fairly simple program in premise. New citizens receive a link in the official Welcome Message inviting them to sign up for a mentor. The CMP then assigns the new player a mentor, who then answers any question the new player may have, in a non-partisan fashion. When they get to the point where the new player feels as if they no longer need the service of a mentor, they are graduated and then set free to make their own way in the New World. From there, the lovely cycle repeats.

This program has many advantages (both direct and indirect) for players new and old. For new players, the benefits are fairly clear. They learn faster than they would through the sub-par wiki, they get individualized answers for unique situations, and they get a friend, because as we all know, it’s very lonely your first few days in the New World. Older players who choose to become a mentor gain from this program as well. By helping younger citizens, they become experts in the small intricacies of eRepublik, and learn new things every day. Both sides learn, and everyone benefits. But how does this help the nation, you may ask? It’s simple.

One of the original reasons this program was started was to increase citizen retention. The eUSA has been estimated to have a 60% inactive population at times. By educating and helping our new citizens to “learn the ropes” as it were, we make them want to stick around and keep playing. From there, we get more active, productive citizens. The larger the active populace, the stronger we are militarily, economically, and politically. So the true aim of this program is this: Retain more citizens, become a stronger nation. Simple as that.

Now that you know what exactly the CMP is, what has been going on these past two months? Quite a bit, actually. We have 19 Mentors, mentoring anywhere 26-30 mentees, up to 4 each. We have many more mentees than mentors, and we are always looking for more mentors. We have graduated many mentees as well, although that particular statistic is hard to determine, as eventually people feel they have a firm enough grasp on the basics to move on, and do so without informing the mentors.

Our focus with the eUSA Citizen Mentorship Program has always been to help as many new players as possible, in an efficient, kind, helpful, and nonpartisan manner. We are here to help, not criticize, look down upon, or ignore. We remember what it was like to be new to eRepublik, and we are looking to make new players experiences as easy and productive as possible. We serve the betterment of the eUSA as a whole, from the ground up, and are proud to do it.
