South Africa: End of month review. November 2008

Day 376, 16:00 Published in South Africa South Africa by Ajay
Introduction
Welcome readers to the end of the month review in The South Africa Guardian. I'll be trying my best to write these every month to look back on our progress as a nation. This is of course the first ever edition of the end of month review in this newspaper. Next month this article will be used as a source to really measure our progress. Looking at our Society, Economy, Politics, Military and Media and how South Africa measures up to other countries in the world. I hope you enjoy reading my very first end of month review and hope this becomes something you look forward to every month.

The Society of South Africa
The strength of our society can be measured by our population numbers, employment levels and general well being of our citizens. Also our activity as a nation on our forums, chat rooms and other such means of communication.

Population: 575 Citizens
This currently ranks us as the 22nd largest nation in the world in terms of citizens. Just above the Netherlands and Venezuela but just behind Slovenia and Ireland. This may well decrease in my next edition in December due to the loss of the Croatian populace. Though hopefully more South Africans will be born and we can build our populace up to reach the Top 20 in the future.

Unemployment: 42.98%
Now this may look high but South Africa has the 5th lowest Unemployment levels in the World. If you compare us to say the United Kingdom who has 67.13% Unemployment we are doing fairly well in this regard. Though of course we could always use more workers so hopefully people in places like the UK will come here in search of jobs seeing this level of employment. Thus boosting our population.

Wellness
Right now there is no public funded healthcare in the form of gifting schemes. I hope the next President and Congress seriously looks at setting one up. The wellness of our populace is the corner stone of both our society and economy. Increasing wellness will improve both production and peoples moods.

Forums and Chat
Our next President must look to endorsing the South African national forums. So that Congress and the citizens can effectively debate the direction that South Africa is to take. One was set-up which you can view by clicking here but it has so far received little press. So I hope that this or any forum gets to be instated the official forum of South Africa very soon.

The Economy of South Africa
I admit as a citizen I am not an expert in this field. Though I'm going to review as best I can the current exchange market, taxation, imports, exports and GDP. As well as the current markets and industry of South Africa.

Currency
At the time of posting this article the current exchange rates are:
1 Gold = 70 ZAR and 1 Gold = 0.019 ZAR. Meaning if you sold a piece of Gold on our exchange market and posted that 70 ZAR on the markets you would get 1.33 Gold for it. So the exchange market could use a little more regulation but as I said I'm no expert in this field.

Taxation
Currently the average worker in Erepublik working in the Food, Weapons, Tickets, Grain, Housing and Hospital sectors are paying a 5% Tax on their incomes. The average wage in South Africa is 6.94 ZAR. So these workers are paying 0.347 ZAR per day in taxes that's 2.429 ZAR per week. The workers that are getting paid the same wage in Diamonds are paying a 20% income tax meaning they pay 1.388 ZAR per day and 9.716 ZAR per week. While workers in Defence Systems are paying nothing.

VAT taxes are 5% across the board apart from in Weapons, Tickets which are at 10% and Defence Systems that is at 0%.

Import taxes on Manufactured goods are all at 99% apart from Weapons at 75%. Constructions are all a 99% apart from Defence Systems at 0%. Raw Materials see a 99% Tax on Diamonds, a 1% Tax on Grain and no Taxes on other goods like Iron and Oil.

Imports and Exports
Latest figures show we Export 277.99 Gold worth of Goods which is the 9th highest amount in the world. While we import 57.63 Gold worth of Goods which is the 8th highest in the world. So we do not have bad viewing figures. This is primarily due to our Diamonds Industry that foreign countries for the most part lack.

GDP
Our overall GDP is 321.12 Gold the 19th highest in the World ahead of countries like Brazil and Argentina.

Companies
South Africa has 96 Companies the 17th highest in the World. Of these companies we have:

33 Diamond Companies
12 Food Companies
11 Gift Companies
11 Weapon Companies
5 Housing Companies
5 Moving Ticket Companies
3 Grain Companies
3 Hospital
3 Defence System Companies
1 Iron Company
0 Oil Companies
0 Wood Companies

Yes I know not all companies are active but this is our numbers at a glance.

Politics of South Africa
This Month has seen a shift in the Politics of South Africa. With Croatia on it's way the Croatians did not seriously challenge for Congress. Meaning SAIL is not in control of Congress and has impeached Sucko the President. Unfortunately for us a bug has seen no replacement put in office. So until the 5th of December we are without a President.

Congress Structure
Black Lion Front: 43.48% of Congress and 10 Congressmen.*
Free Africa: 30.43% of Congress and 7 Congressmen.
Croatian - African UNION: 21.74% of Congress and 5 Congressmen
South African Republican Party: 4.35% of Congress and 1 Congressman*

*Rhood left the Black Lion Front post-election to join the SARP to form his new party.

Parties
Right now it seems that South Africa has more parties than people than will read this article. We have 11 parties. Some active some have dead leaders. Here is a list of all the parties ordered by their number of members.

1.Croatian - African UNION
Leader: Sucko

11. People Union Party

So there you go more parties than you can shake a pheasant at. Note that come election time only the Top 5 can contest the elections.

Military of South Africa
We currently are in a sticky situation. Allied with both Argentina and Indonesia while they are at "War". I say "War" because there has been no Hot War yet. We are also allied with the United Kingdom. Though currently there is a bright side to the Military. The former US General is doing a fine job Organising our Troops. I've also been given the title of Captain in this army. So i'll be doing my hardest to help out in any way I can.

Media of South Africa
Lately the Media has seen some good journalists coming to Africa from America. Bringing with them a huge base of subscribers. So the South African Press is getting read more than it has ever been lately.

Ajay's Last Word
November will be remembered as the Month that South Africa finally got rid of the Croatians that decided to force their rule upon South Africa. We shall soon see what the future brings. Will it be another War? A time of great prosperity? Or will we see Croatians move out and another Baltic Nation move in? Who knows. All I know is I'm finally finished writing this article and I can do my essay that I was supposed to be doing tonight. 😛
