So much for being a Good Samaritan

Unpopular opinion: the concept of ‘stealing medals’ is killing the fun of the game. First of all, stealing something has to be yours, whereas the medal is awarded at the end of the battle.
It’s like awarding a cup after every Premier League match and then teams being friendly, and all they agree that there are enough cups for everyone and decide that the visitor team will concede the game to the host team all the time. A lovely concept, but where is the fun in that? Where is the adrenaline triggered by competitiveness?
But in the end, I am part of a community, and my primal instincts tell me that I have to stick with the tribe, so I am levelling with you all, and I am only hitting on the battles there are no medal contesters because why not, it only costs me a few more seconds.
Bare in mind that I am a two-clicker, playing this game a couple of minutes a day, usually on my commute. And also, I am not chasing medals or gold in particular because I got thousand of gold, and I don't have an actual use for it. So I will log in, and try to find a battle where the medal has not been challenged, so I don't upset anyone, hit, do the captcha challenge and leave. Sometimes, but very rarely, maybe once a month, I will have to join a battle where someone has done damage before because I don't have all day to look for uncontested battles.
In any case, yesterday, I found an uncontested battle, and while doing my damage, I saw another player's avatar appearing on the highest damage slot. I message the person to let him know it was fair play and to apologise while the battle was still open, hoping that since the player was still online, they might return and top their damage.
The answer I got later that day was: “Why are you lying? I did damage around the 20th minute, and you did damage around the 35th minute. Not the first time either.”
Well, so much of being a good Samaritan

Well said, Bilen. 👍

This is exactly the kind of player Congress needs to make sure it doesn't penalise when it writes fighting guidelines

You should probably read his response below where he admits doing his damage 13 minutes after the person he overhit. Seems a clear case of a medal steal even if he is implying being a victim of bad faith from the person who he overhit.
"A lovely concept, but where is the fun in that? Where is the adrenaline triggered by competitiveness?"
Nowhere in infighting. If you want to fight tooth and nail for medals in competitive fights go fight in actual wars, not training wars. The rules as-is are designed to stop petty infighting, which is neither fun nor positive for the community.
I’m not sure we’re prepared to return to the darwinism you’re describing really.
Peace on the home front has finally allowed us to address foreigners also taking your approach
At this point, I am not challenging the system. It is what it is and seems to work well for active players.
What bothers me the most is the entitlement some players are equipped with, thinking that the medal of the battle is their privilege. It may happen that you don't get it sometimes, and whoever took it from you may not have done it intentionally or at least tried their best to find another battle, but they couldn't.
That shouldn't really be a permenant argument against trying to have a level of common respect here in the eUK - I'd have thought clear guidelines (and indeed, the threat of blacklisting from gov sub) would reduce the probably of argument than anything else
Is this what your conclusion is after reading the article? That it encourages players to be disrespectful to one another?
Not really - that common guidelines reduce/eliminate claims of being accidently 'disrespectful'
I should also add not having basic acknowledgements of civility has been predictably disastrous for our retention rate
I do like the TWs campaign we have right now and the rules made so all the players can easily get medals, I don't really need the gold for personal growth - mostly it was donated back to the community but I do want to be in top 3 Learderboards in my UM, I want to known as a 'soldier' that fights .. that is the only reason I am still here.
If you want to be competitive you should try one of the eCountries in top5 where the damage you deal is 0 compared with others.
So what battle was this? Link to the battle so we can judge... if you did both hit the same time then the battle stats will back you up. Otherwise they were very specific in the timings of when you both did damage.
I do not want to share the link as I want to preserve player’s privacy but their damage was minute 22, mine started minute 35 according to the stats of the battle but I am 100% certain that their name wasn't in the highest damage slot when I started hitting. I don't know maybe someone who knows the dynamic of the game from a technical standpoint might have an explanation.
You (quote) "message the person to let him know it was fair play" that you overhit them 13 minutes after they did their damage and now you are upset enough to write an article implying you are a victim because they didn't give you validation or something? Seriously?
You stole a medal and are upset they called you out for it? I smell BS that your browser failed to display their damage after 13 minutes of doing it?
If it was a genuine mistake then why would you tell them your damage was fair play?
And I assume you offered them the gold you won in error?
If the other player dropped his damage at minute 22 and you hit in minute 35 then you do not have a case.
It it’s best not to get too sensitive about occurrences like this - even in an environment such as the carefully managed Training War rich setup that Huey has constructed for us, there will still be times when individuals do bang heads.
When this does happen it is best just to move on - battles are like London buses - you never have to wait long before another one comes along……

I wrote the article because I was hoping that experienced players who went through the same situation would validate that it may happen. But you say it's impossible, which is weird because I know what I saw.
I am not insane or a compulsive liar to message the person or let alone double down the stakes by writing an article if I know I am in the wrong.
I will send them the gold if that is what the problem is.

When you approach a likely battle sometimes the avatar does not always appear right away, it should however after 3 - 4mins.
It is a good idea if the domination bar graph looks a bit odd to drop down "fighter statistics"; this will show who is on the board and what damage. I use a tablet when mobile and due to lower bandwidth of Wi-Fi, router speeds and ISP response the delay times can be absolutely stupid.
We already covered the fact that in the first 60 - 90 secs of hitting/battle start, the scores are very indeterminate.
BTW This game is not perfect there are bugs that have still to be ironed out.
I am pretty sure I was doing my damage when I saw the other player's avatar popping up. As I admitted in my article, it does happen that sometimes in lack of other battles, I hit on other battles that are already claimed, but it wasn't the case in this one; that's why I felt the need to apologise. And everything cascaded from there, but I was hoping for some empathy, mainly when I am the one apologising.
