Justice: Political Prisoner Rod Blagojevich Finally Freed!
Ronald Gipper Reagan
I rarely write articles these days, but I felt compelled to mark this joyous occasion. Governor Rod Blagojevich was wrongfully imprisoned, and given an extreme sentence for basically doing what politicians do all the time anyway. We have seen Serbian-Americans discriminated against in the past in eRepublik, but this was an egregious case of it happening in real life!
President Tangerine should have commuted this sentence three years ago, but better late than never! After nearly eight years of incarceration, today he is a free man. This is one of the greatest miscarriages of justice in legal history. Here he is signing an autograph for a fan like the great guy he is!

I don't know this person, but I can be happy for him now.
Well, he was impeached by a vote of 114–1, removed from office (as Governor of Illinois), then convicted of wire fraud, attempted extortion and conspiracy to accept bribes -- basically for trying to sell a Senate seat. He's hardly a "prisoner of conscience" and it had nothing whatsoever to do with his ethnicity. Trump released him because they are peas in a pod.
Fake News
Nope, your fake news is fake news!
He's Trump's new toady now ..
Trump had to spring him so he can take over for Barr as AG. Even Barr isn't corrupt and toadying enough for Trump.
Politicians ... They often build their image on the suffering of other people.
My question is, why should we be happy? The guy actually tried selling a Senator seat. That's no joke, and it's a direct attack on democracy. We all know there's trade with political positions, there always was, but if there's direct evidence, you should be tried and convicted. So I'm sorry, I can't be happy about this : /

Your response is why democracy has failed. As long as you cover up any evidence of your misdeeds and keep the people in the dark, you can be a great politician.
Of course you would support a miscarriage of justice like this. That guy was as guilty as all hell and you know it. Sycophant.
Disagree, commie.
Thanks for the compliment 🙂

Rod Blagojevich is an insufferable fool who deserves to rot in prison
See, I come out the other way. He has paid the ultimate price and can never return to politics in his state. He watched his kids grow up without him. He went into prison with black hair and is coming out with grey hair. I struggle to see the social utility in keeping him locked up.
He knew full well what he was doing and doubled down on his corruption to the highest level. There is nothing redeeming about this man. Trump is playing with fire on this one. He is going to lose his base. Its one thing to rile up the libs but another to be so openly corrupt as to dole out clemency the way he is to utter losers.
The difference between his hair now and when he went to the pokey is that you can't get hair dye in the pokey, at least not at a reasonable price. And not being able to return to politics -- if that even turns out to be true -- is hardly the "ultimate price."
It was fitting enough for Aaron Burr, political obscurity. If you think prison should be about rehabilitation and not about punishment than you should be on the side of the pardon. His recidivism rate is next to nothing and he learned his lesson.
Unlike Blago, Burr was not convicted of a crime, let alone several, so why you would make such a comparison is mystifying.
True, Burr wasn't convicted. Largely due to the efforts of Chief Justice Marshal who despised Jefferson. But for the purposes of political consciousness, Burr was convicted. After his acquittal. he would never hold public office again. He would die over 30 years later in relative obscurity.
He wasn't convicted, so he didn't go to jail. Unlike Blago. It really is that simple.
The ultimate price.. "can never return to politics in his state" .. Interesting how you worded that with "in his state" . As if you can foresee him returning to politics as a trump toady. Also you "struggle to see the social utility in keeping him locked up." You dont see the social utility in punishments for criminals ?
Blagojevich is not a threat to anyone. Keeping him locked up accomplishes nothing meaningful.
"Withholding punishment is inappropriate
when doing so would encourage people to conclude, 'Everyone else is
looking out for themselves, and I'll be a fool unless I become a little
bit like them.'" -- Albert Alschuler
Sitting in prison for 8 years instead of 14 years doesn't encourage people to commit crimes.
Sure it does, when people see punishments are not enforced it definitely enables them. Specifically, anyone that was looking at doing the same crime could certainly feel encouraged.
Like a ticket for not wearing your seat belt. As soon as a fine was applied people became less likely to break that law. If suddenly the fines were cut in half it would definitely encourage people not to do it.
Anyway, it's more about "discourage" and you need penalties to be enforced to maintain that.
The Illinois Republicans even denounced him getting out early, they understand the need for punishment.
In your opinion, based on your many years of life experience and keen insight into human nature. Obviously the state of Illinois has a different view.
Still crazy after all these years...
Oh, another candidate for Democratic primaries!..
lol yeah, rgr back to troll .. fun ;p .. ex-governor that served 7 years of a 14 year term because he tried to literally sell his senate seat, to the highest bidder.
That and he tried to extort money from a Childrens Hospital, "Blagojevich wanted the $50,000 campaign contribution from the chief executive of Children's Memorial." .. If those kids want their insulin he better get his 50k! yeah, wonderful guy ..
Almost 8 years. Even this is an outrageous punishment for something which is arguably not even a crime.
They did argue it, and he was found guilty .. 🙂
his states senate seat*
jesus what's wrong with you
