Old Man Rant
Maxim Spart
Greetings My Fellow Americans,
The Friend of the People is back! I haven't written a real article in MANY years but now I'm at the quest for 25 comments so here I go!
What I miss from the old days (yes I am from a LONG time ago):
Social/Entertainment events widely attended
Active forum with congressional debates
Political parties that actually had ideologies and debated principles in addition to simply getting their members elected
More newspaper articles (even if they were not important like this one). I miss when you signed on
The old combat system, specifically landing those last minute raids with Josh Frost in Seal Team 6.
Emerick...I couldn't stand the guy/girl/non-binary/who knows what he/she/it was. However...Emerick added a ton to the game and when SEES existed we had some awesome debates which I believe pushed the eUSA forward. Chickenguys is/was an antagonist but not in the same ballpark as the legend that Emerick was.
Fionia...where did she go?
Max McFarland...enough said
Combat now feels so distant and uninvolved. The little guy could make a difference back in the day, today it's simply a waste of time/energy and that itself spells doom for the future.
IRC (does this still exist?) Those were the days.
USWP...what a political party
With the "off site" material dwindling down, the in game mechanics need another massive overhaul to create more content and more "to do" to keep us all going.
This game still is a bright spot in gaming but needs help. They must be making a disturbing amount of money still to avoid pushing the envelope and creating new content.
Well Old Man Rant is done for today. For those that read all the way through...wow...
Friend of the People,

I can identify very much with this article.
I miss the old times, when you could debate about stupid nitpicky laws that existed nowhere exept some outside forum. Ideological debates that were entertaining (at least for those participating) and created something more than the clicking yes or no on fixed topics in congress.
Now politics is limited to who controls the government programs (if there are any).
I tried sparking up the political debate about the renting out of resources to other countries, but all I got was 'its just the game mechanics'. I guess globalisation in eRep has ruined the economy. You can have holdings worldwide and work in all of them in the same day. Travel should be much, much slower.

The journalist module always has been dependent on the boredom of some players in some countries with active communities. But some countries are beyond saving. Reading the months old 'new' articles, it feels like Captain Trips came through there. Luckily some countries still have active press (if not politics)
Very informative. Thank you.
Note, however, that only food and weapons can be made by manager and travel is time consuming and costly.
i also endorse you linked article.

Can we get an F for eRep? Don't lie to me and tell me we're all still really alive here
As a new player its always great to read about how the game used to be and how it has developed. Its nice to see old players returning to erep.

I feel this.
Other than the USAMillitary forums, and Rising, the only thing i miss is the IRC[still existing in various forms but not as popular as Telegram and Discord.]
It's quite awesome to see old citizens rising from the dead. i was never QUITE deceased but might as well been for about 5 years.
If you have any questions about the economic game, pm.
Yay the dead have risen

Yes I missed that too
True!
Here the RAWR of ST6!!!!

"This game still is a bright spot in gaming but needs help." nah, it reached its peak several years, maybe even close to a decade, ago. Almost everyone has forgotten about this game now. Now it is nothing more than a forgotten game that failed to make its potential a reality. It does need help though if it's going to become great again.
"They must be making a disturbing amount of money still to avoid pushing the envelope and creating new content." that's true. At some point, the developers decided to say "Screw politics, screw economy, screw the players, screw everything... Except war. Let's focus 100% on selling war related packs for real money.". The developers don't care about the game anymore, they only care about making money via wars started and fought by players.
Just look at the politics system: political parties can, like in real life, lean left, center or right. In erepublik however, that's only an illusion; there's nothing that sets a right-wing party apart from a left-wing party. All politics are ultimately about war, nothing else.
Economy they ruined too by simplifying it to the point where the individual cannot hold any power. In the past, a few people could influence countries by trading currencies and gold. A few people, sometimes even just one person, could raise / lower the prices of various things to levels that had a serious impact on a country's economy. You can no longer do that as all currencies are turned into the currency you use in the country you are located in. The result? War has an even greater impact on the game, as only wars can change the balance of power now.
This game is just a cash grab at this point. I refuse to participate in wars and support this business model.
ok
