[USA] The Pacifica Epilogue

Day 3,919, 16:17 Published in USA USA by USA Department of Defense

Dear American players,
Dear eRepublik players,

we founded Pacifica just over 4 years ago. This makes it one of the most durable alliances in the game. In this time, however, it became the primary policy of most alliance members to affiliate with other Asteria and pro-Asteria countries. While our past administrations have tried to follow suit, we haven't been able to achieve this level of affiliation. We wanted to stay friends with countries on both sides - pro-Asteria and anti-Asteria. This profound reason is also why we find ourselves in the current situation.

Today the USA leaves the Pacifica alliance.

This is a very hard decision for us to make and first we want to thank our Pacifica allies for their friendship in the past years. Our leaving follows months-long discussion internally among our MU Commanders and political leaders before culminating with a vote in (shadow) Congress. It is a direct consequence of the multiple air strikes following which we have been occupied for 5 months now by multiple enemies, all stronger than us.

Thank you, Pacifica countries, for your friendship throughout the last few years!

Following these recent events, our players acknowledged that we lack a true commitment to either side. And while this ensured our safety for these past years, it is also the reason for our current suffering. So, upon becoming President, the US community (via our MU Commanders) asked me to "choose one side and stick with it".

The analysis was simple - most of the Pacifica countries have close ties to Asteria and pro-Asteria. Some even share MPPs with Asteria. However, despite the initial attack on US being launched by Croatia, now more than 2/3 of our core regions are currently occupied by a coalition of Asterian and pro-Asterian countries - Lithuania, Bulgaria and Macedonia, with 0 prospect of them agreeing to cooperate with us in any way.
The other available choice - anti-Asteria, also consists of countries who occupy us. They also organise regular attacks against fellow Pacifica allies. So, on paper it sounds like an impossible choice. Therefore, I started exploring the future, the ambitions of our occupiers and their motives for occupying us in the first place.

The result was that the door to pursue pro-Asterian affiliation is closed for us. It's a shame, because it used to be the direction where the USA was supposed to be going a few years ago when I was last in an US administration before coming back to the game earlier this year. But we have failed in this endeavour and now is too late to try again.

Anti-Asteria consists of many countries with which we have been allies in the past. Events from the recent past are definitely not all forgotten and forgiven, but several opportunities exist for the US in this space. First, just like we are, other anti-Asteria countries have lost their cores, while others are seriously threatened to lose theirs. Second, we risk of losing our communities because of the prolonged occupation by the enemy. And third (a bit more positive), our damage means something to anti-Asteria.

In summary, several years ago we went on a course to join the anti-Asterian circles. But we did a half-assed job, because we stayed friends with and supported countries which fight against them. It is time to go back to square 1. And unfortunately the first thing we have to do is to leave Pacifica. It is hard to say goodbye to friends, but we are in no position to pursue the same FA direction, as the Pacifica member countries. We have to go our way and prove to the eWorld that we are not the half-assed country they consider us to be.

Making a choice is easy. Sticking with it is the hard part.

USA, we have been wiped for 5 months now, but the hardest part starts now. We are on a path to cleanse our name as a community and I thank you for choosing me to be your leader in these tough times. Me and my administration intend to carry on with this hard task and will need your full cooperation on the battlefield in the next weeks and months. Because of Plato's recent changes to the determination rule, our occupiers are going to start swapping regions and I will communicate with you additionally what opportunities there are for us. Watch this space!
