[Parliament] 31st December - 1st January Session
Speaker of the House
Good afternoon gents and a happy new year in advance!
As Addaway has disappeared in true eRep tradition I have declared myself temporary congressional Fuhrer, with all the associated infrastructure spending and overriding political absolutism…
Due to the appallingly outdated communication platform on this game I’ll try and release an article every 2 days for you to post your thoughts and reflections on the various gov/parliamentary business that may or may not be taking place during our war of liberation
😛.
New threads will be opened shortly now a few more MPs have me added, however I’d ask that all non-sensitive discussion be held here or in an ingame article for the public to join in and contribute.
Currently the two proposals being voted on are Alfagrem’s economic protectionism and a counter Natural Enemy law against Finland.
Cheers,
Appleby

Quick update: Gov has formally proposed joining Orion
As this is an alliance matter I expect it would be sensible to have a days discussion before putting it to vote. However if there is no real objection we can begin it ingame tomorrow afternoon
There have been no formal proposals by this Government...
What wayne said but cooler sounding
Clearly cabinet is up to date

Chaz must have been drunk...
I kinda meant more to grasp congresses opinion on the matter at present. Our official stance is that we're interested but in discussion atm, any vote is no way binding at this stage! Just a gauge.
What are the specific reasons and benefits to joining Orion at this precise moment? There seems to be confusion as to whether this has actually been proposed or not.
Reasons for joining according to Cabinet discussions:
1. Named after a 1990's model of Ford car.
2. We had one when I was a kid.
3. They helped us out against the eArgies.
4. We (apparently) need an alliance.
5. Well it's either them or another shit tier alliance and at least they aint the shittest of the shit tier.
Pretty much the full and frank minutes of the discussion right there for you.
I thought from Alfagrem's article that he was seeking opinions from the general populace as to the best policy concerning import taxes for food - I don't know why we've had proposals for weapons and now a proposal for open markets on food without any reasoning as to why this is the best option?
My article was to get a general feel of what the population wanted in terms of econ policy and how they felt it would impact them.
We don't get much in the way of imports (as you pointed out) and it seems we do produce enough of our own food/can support ourselves outside of plato fking with the economy.
Taken the comments onboard and the specific outlining of the main body of the article...........mongress could now vote with some indication of what they were actually voting for.
I'm for joining Orion. But I'd like us to focus on bi-lateral friendships while we are in there. Alliances fall apart but friendships last longer.
I support joining Orion because ... why not? Not being in an alliance hasn't worked very well.
We apparently need an alliance, so joining the Orion seems to be good move in this moment. Whether this is enough in terms of our foreign policy is another question.
For the food import taxation - economic protectionism is not necessary in my opinion. Equality street option (73% now, 38% if we have all regions) would be the best option for our country.
Actually it's a terrible option and I only mentioned it so as to complete the record.
Equality street is attempting to match the UK to a calculated average which means we're bang in the middle of the pack and therefore there are some 30 odd nations which are a better option to do business in then us.
Contrariwise - in this situation the market here will regulate itself, while the state would gain more from import taxes.
The real problem here is the low offering (which forms higher prices and gives rise to the need of this lever) and resolving it must become a priority of Parliament and the Government.
We do need to get the price of food back to a reasonable level.... it's great for those of us who produce it now, but surely hurting our citizens who have not yet grown enough to produce as much as they need for themselves.
This can not going to happen while there are a little producers and many fake accounts. In the current situation is preferable to protect manufacturers - only then we can hope to increase the offering which will generally lower the price and the market will regulate itself.
I am thinking less for myself - but the NHS has to buy food to supply our "patients" and the price is killing us!
The state gains very little from import (and VAT) tax most of the cash comes from the work tax.
The higher prices are only a problem if the UK doesn't have a Mo£ who is able to operate a cap correctly (and therefore potentially bring more cash to the gov) and he/she should be doing that anyway as part of his/her jerb.
As for new players we have to remember that they do start with and are encouraged by eRep missions to produce their own Q1 food.
Above and beyond that you should probably be going to them and making them aware of programs that giveaway spare food.
Even so, with properly regulation revenues will be increased.
You say the same thing that I claim, but formulate it in a different way.
In fact, higher prices is a big problem for new players, but not a problem for fake accounts. From this you can conclude how eUK economy rotates now ... and here is the key to fight with "multies" by the way.
I help young players every week - just look at my newspaper. But the eUK have to do the same ... as in eUSA and a number of other countries.
If Orion offer us a place, I say take it. It'll make us all feel a little better to be in a cosy alliance. Plus Lithuanians are cool and have always fought for us like devils when we've been on the same side.
