A platform of hard truth and common sense
Foxfire
Long have I hear
😛We want active people in Congress. We want more people to be active and participate.
That's a lie.
Imagine you built your own home and you get everything just the way you want it. Do you want a mob of noisy strangers coming into your home, moving your furniture around, changing your cable package, ruining the butt groove you've carefully crafted in your favorite chair.
Hell no.
You want your friends over to have a nice little agreeable gathering. To compliment you on your furniture, maybe join in on a friendly circle jerk and then leave so you can enjoy your home the way you want to.
That's the eCanada congress forum. Players that don't want a bunch of strangers coming in and telling them what to do. They want 39 of their good buddies nodding in perfect agreement, telling them they are doing great, followed by a generous butt massage with full and pouty lips.
The greatest and sadist point of all this is, those deeply involved in the hypocritical farce claim they don't understand why new active players have absolutely no desire to participate in the eCanada forums. Instead 5 gold grabbing "inactive" players snatch up the open spots laughing at the joke of it all while the spend their days with family and friends in happy healthy normal lives. Damn two-clickers.
A toxic environment of exclusion and favoritism festers and they truly wonder why only inactive gold seeking players seek Congress. Really? No, not really. They know.
The CPF and MDP run the country, you're just allowed to play here. And by play, they mean pay taxes. They don't want you in Congress. The more of you new players that show up, the greater the chance you will witness a simple and profound truth:
The eCanada Congres forum is completely irrelevant to eRepublik game play governance.
A house of cards
“If you want to know who's in charge, look to those you aren't allowed to question.”
The eCanada forum congress is a hall of shadows. An illusionary system created as a barrier to you taking controlling authoritative power from them. The ruling elite need you to believe that governance can ONLY be held in THEIR house.
At his exact moment, 4 out of 12 posts to the Open Door Congress are dedicated to the punishment of players who did not bend to that authority. Their authority. Their completely self manufactured authority.
So at this moment over 30% of matters before eCanada Congress doesn't have a single thing to do with the governance of eCanada. And the post in the forum with the most discussion? The blacklisting of a player from Congress.
While the gold reserve goes ignored. While private citizens have to pay our bills. Don't worry, they are right on top of who is and isn't allowed in the pillow fort.
The recycled politicians
Same old, same old. Wonder why the game is stale. The same bunch of people have been in government for years. Like Alzheimer patients, they can't even remember why they're there or how to do it differently.
The new player terrifies them. You could do ANYTHING! That can't happen. Not in their house. Not against their rules. You might change the tax rate. You might promote new alliances. SWEET LORD, you might not use the forum and expose their system as the fossilized senior citizen home that it is!
Well you may see encouraging new players and new ideas as keeping the game refreshed and interesting, they do not.
Foxfire for Congress
Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats. - H. L. Mencken
When last I left eCanada congress, it was a demented cesspool of egotism, spamming, trolling and near LARPing-like political fantasy land on acid. It was a place where common sense was left at the door and those that should be seeking high powered medications choose to entertain their personal demons publicly. I had about as much interest in return to Congress as I do catching a fatal dose of gonorrhea.
So why on earth would I be running to join congress again?
Recently groups typically held in the minority had the audacity to join together to have their voices heard. As expected, this was met with hostility and ridicule from the existing elite. Yet, those that have chosen this impossible endeavor to have all voices heard deserve as close a fair shot that they can get.
For that reason, I have offered to sign up for Congress and assist with whatever skills I bring to the table. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now... never mind.
The other side of the rainbow
The only time I've seen anything close to what Congress should be, is when we are under attack. Everyone forgets their differences and works together towards a true common good. It is inspiring and that inspiration is contagious. That's what Congress should be all the time. A place of mutual respect and benefit that inspires all other Canadians to do the same.
This tasks appears to be too much of a challenge to those that hold power and claim "leadership".
The status quo is now alienating players, creating a toxic playing environment and basically diminishing the respect towards those that wish to soil themselves in such matters.
VISAs, not teamwork. Witch hunts, not conversations. Exclusion, not invitation. This is the eCanada congress forum and it is as responsible for the slow death of the active eCanada player population as the indifference Plato shows towards it's players.

Why you so aggro, tho?
Honestly. I don't like bullies. You can tell a lot about a persons character by the way they treat someone when they don't have to.
Just between you and me and the rest of everyone that can read this, I'm actually not that angry. 🙂 Makes for a hell of a good read though.
Foxfire for CP!!
What the hell man? ... No. ... So much no.
muahahaha 😉
I f***ing love this article!
I'm sad I can only endorse this once!
"So at this moment over 30% of matters before eCanada Congress doesn't have a single thing to do with the governance of eCanada."
70% of 'real stuff' is not too bad considering that most of the questions posed during Question Period (real Canadian politics, btw) are only intended to grandstand and denigrate without accomplishing anything productive. Nevertheless, I deeply hope that somewhere over the rainbow, Foxfire finds her ruby slippers and clicks her way to greater Congress glory. Toto and the rest of us are counting on you!
I f***ing love this article! x2

was here!
You are a god among brutes.
I have noticed that the new congress members (if they even sign up at all) are quickly put in their place if they mention anything besides Yes and No. They are directed to learn the rules and to pretty much take a back seat.
Other countries (like the one I ran) worked just fine, and I would say better, by using ingame messaging for congress. More people get involved and it can turn into a funny spectacle (look at what happened recently in UK's thread for an example).
CPF supports in game mechanics and it would not be crazy to leave the forums for government purposes...
Would be funny if a majority got in that would vote to stop the use of the forums and bring it ingame. Its not unheard of...
Then get the support you need to enact those changes.
That's what I don't get about everything that's been said about this coalition: the CPF and MDP aren't keeping you from power; your lack of support is. If you could convince people to vote for your parties on election day then you'd be the one in power.
What's stopping you from doing that?
I'm in the CPF...
Well, never mind then (although you could still push for in-game mechanic solutions, if you support that). Just be nicer to the newbs then.
Cause we are elites Chochi! Way easier to make excuses then to actually do anything! You know, the people who work behind the scenes to ensure Canada is free and shit, we are just elites not doing anything. So lets burn it down!
Good luck Foxfire, I don't agree with everything you say all the time but you are reasonable and the current Congress is anything but. I hope your voice can do something in there, I tried three months ago but all that got me was bogged down in the mire over there.
I'd like to say of the 12, 3 are mine and have nothing to do with banning or punishment.
Work Tax Return 5% Topic (only CPF and MDP talking)
Leto Tax Payment (only CPF and MDP talking, DMV blames CPF and MDP for not paying)
November Budget Topic (only CPF and MDP talking)
So if you want to champion that a Coalition would rather do work for Canada and leave bickering behind, I see a lot of catching up to do. No offense, but if you don't care about how we make money, how we interact with our allies, and our position within the alliance, then I am going to assume you don't have much concern at all. I don't see any attempts to address these issues in game either so what gives with the inactivity, or work ethic?
Of my 4 posts in CDC, none of which involve punishment, nearly all the discussion is being done between the MDP and CPF. Of the 45 posts between the 4 topics, only DMV is active, and with one post from Nyx and Punisher respectively. Again, considering CDC is where the real concerning stuff happens, there seems to be no input from other parties.
I am all for people stepping up and adding new voices, but common, next to nothing in game and on the forums to show Canada what you think, leaves many of us questioning if you are thinking at all... (not you Firefox)
He means Foxfire 😛
The question I'm left wondering is, do you intend on going on the forums when you're elected to Congress?
Do you intend on fixing the problem (and we all know it is just that)), or do you simply plan on pretending like it doesn't exist and you're somehow above it, and try to make things work purely in game (which also has a terrible track record in eCanada by the way)?
From where I sit I would love to see whatever group of Congresspeople the new "Coalition" elects (hopefully you put effective people at the top of your ballots so that you can actually work towards change, and not a bunch of no shows and derps) go on the forums and make a go of it.
In fact I'm willing to bet that it's been long enough since your last foray into politics for the bad taste to have left people's mouths and you'd have a real solid chance at winning Speaker if you went into it with a platform of positive change, and moving Congress towards a system that isn't dominated by curmudgeonly old-balls that have lost their fire.
Intent is to fix, or assist, from in the belly of the beast. My expectations in this regard are very low.
I've requested to be party whip and currently working with the PP of my party to promote the most active. There is a system. Should be interesting to see if it works.
Foxfire nailed it
Ya know what? You've just convinced me of something. This is a game and I want you to have a chance to play it. I just resigned from Congress (I know, only 2 days left). I just removed my candidacy. When I get home sometime tomorrow I'm going to write and article asking for CPF and MDP members NOT to run for Congress. I will be PM'ing all my little secret groups you hate promoting you and your tribe.
I want you to have full reign in Congress. Run amok, destroy everything you hate. If I thought they'd do it I'd advocate taking down the forum. One thing for sure I will advocate that no one be given Congress masking next month. CPF and MDP can just use the in game PM.
Do your best, show us what you've got. I'm tired of your hoopla. As the saying goes...
Money talks and BS walk.
Let's give you a chance to sink or swim.
Also known as picking up your ball and going home. Small minds generally resort to small ideas. Not to interrupt your temper tantrum, but many other countries successfully run their government through only PMs. For those of us that like to think matters through before lashing out, removing an element from a process and having the process still work is a very telling discovery.
Next time put on your big boy pants before you post Dill. You're outing yourself as the biggest fool.
I would like you to make up your mind (if possible). First you want people like me out because we impede your new way of thinking and clutter up the landscape. Now you act as if it is important that I stay so you have someone to argue with. Sounds to me like your fun is ruined if I take my ball and go home. Don't you have a ball?
Clearly the concept of teamwork is lost on you. Maybe you should find a nice little corner to sit this one out. I appears to be beyond your abilities.
I liked your article, especially the part about mutual respect, and changing the status quo of toxicity. Then this happened. You sly fox, you.
You're quite right, this is beyond my ability. But fighting for the little guy is not beyond my ability, it is the main point of the game. Everyone deserves a shot, not just the big mouth braggarts.
That is why I'm glad to be out of Congress. Now I can objectively speak against the coalition that seeks to replace old elites with the NEW ELITE. Dennis has explained how you intend to have a board direct the Congress Whip for your close knit little group to demand that they follow the line or else.
Glad to see that you use brute force to make your Congress people stay in line or they will be tossed aside by the Whip. 😃
My mistake was assuming everyone wanted to work together for the good of eCanada. Dill has other issues he needs to work out and that's between him and his therapist. For my part, I will endeavor to work towards a game that includes everyone and doesn't push for the bullying that Dill has perfectly demonstrated for me here.
That sounds crazy enough to work.

Thats what Im talking about.. Well said. Let me know if you need help in anyway. Their need to be a dissemination of power in Canada!
Pleasure to vote and read...and good luck \o/
Great article! Despite being in the CPF, I do think you have a point. Our politics has been rather shaky during this last term, with our president abandoning us, and congress doing stupid things (turning down the UK peace a month earlier) and people losing interest.
See? That's what happens when I'm not in congress to keep things active!
You've been drinking McVicker's Kool Aid.
If you are truly concerned for the well-being of eCanada, I, for one, welcome your input.
I do not know whether or not you consider me one of the "elites." But if I am such, it is because I have earned that position with hard work on all levels. And I haven't been doing it for terribly long - only a few months now. I'm willing to fight for what I believe is the greatest good for eCanada, even if the short-term objectives are unattractive. If you are willing to do the same, grand.
If, on the other hand, your goal is rabble-rousing, and calling for change for change's sake, and fighting "The Man," and "representing the 99%," that makes you a dirty stinking hippie. And I'll fight you tooth and nail. The same way I fight CPF when they try to pull that peace-and-love nonsense.
The system is imperfect, but it's the system we have. If you want to fix it, fix it. If the fixes you propose serve the greatest good, you'll be met with support. If they're a bunch of "let's shake things by breaking rules" hippie nonsense, you'll be met with resistance.
You've successfully proved his point...
what's with you and McViker? 😃 The sexual tension is palpable
Fantastic article. Everything you address is the very reason I have not wanted to be a part of the Canadian Congress any longer. It's just a bunch of the same people who are never open to new ideas or opinions and are quick to punish anyone who steps out of line.
Feed upon the rage!

Your generalizations are without facts and you were one of the most toxic players the last time you entered politics. Good luck this time. .
I recall. Anyone that doesn't agree with you was labelled a troll or toxic, followed by post after post of swearing. I expect nothing else from you.
Your already on top of your game. Show me the facts?
you're ?
Besides I rarely ever swear or and certainly not in public, so I have no idea what you are referring too. Show me a shot of me swearing in public?
I hate agreeing with you. But I do.
I see a lot of CHANCE in this article.
Yes, I see.
Your point about recycled players interests me. Same old, you say, I agree but we simply don't have the numbers to change that. I was PP of the CPF last month and chose to put a couple of new members in congress this month, they had seemed energetic enough about the idea. What the result? Well they didn't show up in or out of game to any vote or discussion. It just simply can't help taking some of us with Alzheimer's out if we cannot be replaced. It's a sad truth.
Furthermore on congress and the forums, in my opinion nowdays the Exec does everything useful. Congress is simply now for debating taxes (a long standing tradition here I suppose) talking about CS acceptance and voting on what the Exec tells us to do. War, what our community here in Canada strives on, is decided barring a few decisions on money needed etc, is decided by the Exec. Canada at war here, is like a well oiled machine. It unites us. To end this point, congress is limited to it's usefulness so to get involved and a change of the guard, we need active members everywhere else too. As for the forums and ingame messages points, there are pros and cons to each, I guess we could explore it more. Change here however won't happen quickly.
Third times the charm I guess. The original comment was much much longer but here's what posted.
