Oh No!
Releasethe Krakken
Moo could say NO?
Finally a big kick up the arse for England
Finally the Scottish left to their own devices
A bit of rebel rousing
When asked will you do or die Scotland chose to whimper and cry!
And so a free Scotland just drifted away....

Father Ted, the very best
was sad that he died 🙁
yep and yep it was
Sad results from Scotland. Never a good sign to see more than 45% of the population want their independence. I have no doubt that any nation which wants its independence from a larger, stronger nation with the media control that the UK has, will not be successful until that larger nation approves. Until then it'll just be constant govt. funded propaganda spewed out to keep the populace divided on the issue, and a close poll result every time.
Raven, I disagree. Respectfully for I have always paid a lot of attention to your articles - they are sensible & well thought out. But there is another side to this issue.
The majority of Scots do not want change, even though it is not that great a majority - still its a majority for the status quo.
And rather than being bamboozled by propaganda, I believe that Scottish people have given a lot of thought to this matter & have made their own minds up. They turned out in record numbers to vote on this matter.
I think the referendum is a watershed & will lead to increasing fairness in the relations between England. Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland ( and I know how this is going to go over, but its a pity its not all of Ireland as well)
A true partnership of equals would advance ALL the partners.
Too many nasty things happened in the past - and the shite was dealt out to all members here - not cruel England to blame for all the shit, but a nasty self entitled group playing all peoples of the British Isles for their own benefit - no matter what misery to everyone else.
More things unite the peoples of England. Scotland, Ireland & Wales than divide them
Thanks for the current affairs article RTK.
I agree with Raven on the media control and propaganda aspects. Boud did you listen to the polls on BBC and Sky over the last 6 months and watch the accompanying posturing by Britsh politicians?
Months ago it was Yes 33% and No 66%. As we got closer with only weeks to go the polls indicated a 50/50 split. The politicians and media went into overdrive with the threatening sabre-rattling comments letting Scotland know just how bad things would be made for them if they did not vote No. The vote comes in at 55 to 45 for No. A 10% swing due to fear and a vote for the status quo a fearful percentage of the voting public, quite a lot of it I feel was due to media and threatening English Politicians.
The English politicians learned from our Nice 1 and Nice 2 referendums and used the same kind of scare tactics with the help of the media to get the result they wanted. In a tight vote this kind of thing makes a difference and it is something politicians are aware of.
Crosseye, there is only one poll that counts - and that's the referendum.
I think you are putting the Scottish people down by assuming that they cannot understand what is obvious to you. That they can be swayed by propaganda & fear? that you can see right through.
In the end its the Scottish peoples decision.
Of course the deciding factor will be what happens down the track.
Personally I am optimistic
Boud I am not putting the Scottish people down. The Nice 1 and 2 referendums that I referred to were held in Ireland over 10 years ago. The Irish people did then, possibly in Nice 1 and definitely in Nice 2 what the Scottish did on Thursday. I am saying from this point of view Irish and Scottish people are the same.
I am not putting anyone down, nor holding myself up as a shining beacon that can see through lies, threats, propaganda etc I am a person. I can be persuaded, cajoled, intimidated, fooled just like any other person can. The things that might have affected people in the referendum vote might not have affected me, but other emotional and psychological approaches would affect me. Things that others might see right through I would not.
Yes, it is the Scottish people's decision not mine. I am neither Scottish, nor do I live there.
As RTK said, and I agreed, it was a democratic decision and personally it does not affect me.
I just don't like the fact that people with power and influence use that power in a very negative way to get what they want, which I think was the main thrust of Raven's comment.
In relation to the last line of your comment Boud - "personally I am optimistic", do you mean optimistic that the politicians in Westminster will follow through on their reforms and granting Scotland more autonomy?
I am optimistic that Scotland will achieve real practical automony
Yes certainly it was a democratic decision and personally it did not affect me.but still a large group voted yes.
It would be foolish to ignore the extent of the yes vote. The acid test will be down the track - Scottish people will asses the result of their decision.
And maybe there will be another referendum - that one will be the important one.
A bit like should Australia become a republic - that particular issue keeps resurfacing.
I agree
australia a republik ?
Every now & again there is this push to have a referundum to make it so - but it seems the majority of Australians are happy with the Queen as head of state
