I'm angry. Also, free CADbucks.
Keven Traide
Honest to god, this has nothing to do with eSpain and ePoland destroying us for a poor decision on our idiot President's behalf. But I am disillusioned with this game, because of what an entirely unrelated developer has going on right now.
I hate skinner boxes as a general medium (couldn't stand WoW, and the only MMORPG that I actually got into for any time at all was Star Wars: The Old Republic, because of the engaging storyline and acting involved -- mechanics were the same as every other MMORPG ever, and I imagine they still are) and that's all Erepublik is, in the absolutely most naked representation of the medium I can honestly imagine ever seeing. Push button, get reward. Put money in, get to push the button more times, get more rewards.
This article is inspired not by Erepublik or Plato or anything especially related to this game/site/company whatever. Instead it's inspired by the bullsh*t that King.com (Candy Crush et al) is trying to pull on Stoic, by saying that because Stoic has developed a game called The Banner Saga, they are attempting to cause confusion among potential customers based on the 'Saga' brand that King.com has going for it.
If you don't know about it, allow me to link you to my blog which links to a Forbes article (as well as details a message I sent stupid King.com because they're bullies). It's all trademark garbage.
What I need now is someone to post a comment telling me why I should continue to engage in a skinner box when I have become completely disillusioned with them in the wake of underhanded garbagey tactics?
Everyone who posts a comment before Plato inevitably takes this article down will get 100 virtual CAD. Give me reasons, people.

Ginger Thursdays and now the eUK's Ginger Fridays...someone takes the time to bring you all those stunning red heads in one neat package. Well worth a repeat log on
I hadn't thought of that. This is a good point.

Who else with do my nefarious bidding?!
waka waka, mofo. TMS4LIFE
Lol, im there too! 😃
NOOOOOOOOO
Because it's all you know and if you stop there will be a hole in your life that will gnaw at you until you try to fill it with something else that would likely be worse.
This is very completely not true. I play D&D on a weekly basis. The only reason I play Erepublik is because it's fun to troll IBB93, basically.
You're trolling me?
OHH, THATS what you've been trying to do....now I see it...I guess?
Stop feeding the trolls and give us a fucking update!
Also thanks for the cash, Keven.
Well I'm just here fr the free CAD, 😃
Figures. :/ Enjoy it, honky.
I'm more black than white actually
I want some free monies.
Then have some. *donated*
free money?
Okay.
Community
Which community, exactly? I mean, there are tons of other games that offer community. I could join a play-by-post RPG thing and make money that way.
And by make money I mean do the community thing. I'm tired and I keep reading 'free money' everywhere.
free money? x2
Behold, I hath granted thou thy hundred CADbucks. Go forth and spend freely, mortal.
Behause of my sexy vids? How else will you be up to date on Oinyo's crazy antics? 😛
"I'm bringing Kev(e)in back" should be my ringtone. The name fits.
Ha ha I didnt think about that 😛 That song can apply to you as well 😛
Also thank you for the CAD!
Because Candy Crush Ultimate is coming soon!
Also, 100 CAD. 😛
Candy Crush is the WORST kind of game. 'Addictive' because it appeals to the same part of the brain as gambling, and you have to spend money to play it "better" (like this game!). The developers more or less stole the game in its entirety from the guys who made Bejeweled, and every other match3. It does nothing to further the art of the medium. It is awful.
I agree, I was just able to get the woman off of playing CC. But then again, pokemon was no better. I long for the late 90's-early 2000's, when good video game creation was at its peak.
I haven't gotten any money 😢
Sorry, I was playing D&D. You have the money now.
Game mechs = bleh
What it comes down to in eRep is social interaction. The enjoyability (and activity) mostly comes from the community.
I've heard the community arguement before. I don't understand this 'social interaction' thing, as this game appears to, at this point, be an 'old boys club' among people whom have either spent a lot of time in the game and can recall the 'good old days' together, or among people whom have spent a month's salary on the game, to give them a Q7 factory or something.
It's very, VERY hard for new players to break into this niche, without resorting to their Visa. I'm fortunate in that I completed the right quests at the right time, and got a huge donation from someone more or less at random (I believe, ironically, he was quitting the game).
We have a forum board that, for months, would not let me sign up, sign in, any of that. When I finally managed to get ahold of an admin, I found that the forum was in fact as lifeless as the rest of the eCountry. Just going through the motions, at this point. Maybe one new post in any random thread per day, it seemed.
Must you join the IRC, then, to participate in the game and enjoy this 'social interaction' that people laud? I mean, after you, the new player, put yourself in real-life debt to achieve anything of note.
This arguement of 'social interaction' does not convince me as such, unless you can address some of these frustrating points I bring up.
Due to the small size of eCanada, I think it's a bit easier to break into the community, in comparison with eUSA for example. A good article or two would put you in the news and basically announce to active media watchers "Hi, I'm here." You might get a few friend requests, insightful or welcoming comments, maybe even messages. I find that more controversy = more reactions = more activity, so that's always fun ;P
The game is an old boys club in the sense that the older or richer people tend to dominate because of their strength, experience and connections, which can never be achieved overnight. You shouldn't need Visa/Mastercard to succeed in politics or to be engaged in the community. Though, with anything, all pros begin as newbies. It does require time and effort, but ultimately it's up to the player to see if it's an investment worth trying, pursuing or just quitting.
For forums, ecanada.cc/forums/ is not absolutely lifeless (yet), but most of the activity is limited to the Legislative Branch for Congress. IRC is hit or miss depending on if anyone that's on wants to talk lol.
It also really depends on what party you join.. If you join the CPF or Clan Wolf you are going to get a warm welcome and find things enjoyable.. MDP is not a new player party 😛 Also most of the other parties are very inactive or dead. You really have to pick the party suited to your needs 🙂
/me screws n00blet hat on securely and waves at Mary Chan...
I've not exactly been overwhelmed with Canadians kissing up to me. On the other hand when Pickle's hit the shores of Switzerland (pun intended, they are landlocked) we were sucked into the political scene like a black hole (and I ain't talking about astrological anomalies). I would rather look around before I take any particular stance. Also nice to know who you can trust and who not.
For the record I despise IRC my old brain can't think that fast. Two or three conversations and half a dozen people talking all at once puts me off. To begin with I only type about 20 words a minute. By the time I write something and press Enter to send it someone's already asked me something else. 😛
Forums only work when people use them. D'oh, guess we need to use it then.
Party politics doesn't interest me a whole lot. I've been burned there before. I still have warm feelings for my first party, the United Independents Party (US). Interesting side story: Jason Welsh (who was just elected to Congress, w00t!) is a member of Pickle's but way back was in the UIP and was one that encouraged me to join. To make it short, I was party president when everyone left and was gonna close it down. Jason wanted to try one more time so he was the last PP of UIP. We were on IRC together when he turned the lights out (changed the avatar and name), then resigned leaving it to the dead players.
ATTENTION: IMPORTANT POINT
I guess the best response to your question of social interaction is to point out this article. Skim through the comments here. There are posters from many points of view. You've even manage to produce my famous Wall of Text which over explains my thoughts to the max. 😃
monies ❤
Okay.
monies
Okay.
Pay as you go pixels.
Doesn't appeal to me. Actually makes me sad.
I agree but I also buy gold. It's a ying/yang thing. I have friends who never buy gold and they have fun. I have friends who do buy gold and they have fun. Key words here is "have fun". If you ain't havin' fun you are at least wasting your time, if you're paying RL money for gold you're an idiot.
I know previously you've said you don't get the community thing. If you could peek under the hood (bonnet for you English types) of our MU you might understand a bit. Basically a loose association of 2-clickers, some of which probably would have left eRep, some who just like the raucous behavior I occasionally exhibit, some just like the fact that BS isn't tolerated. I don't know the exact reason but I like one members answer when I asked why he sticks around, "I just want to see what silly shit you do next.". Kinda says it all in a nutshell.
FWIW, sometimes it's fun being the leader of the band, sometimes it's a pain in the ass. 😃
What the fuck is a "Candy Crush"
Also fuck you for bringing up other shitty games when we have enough of this shitty game to deal with
eRep is the king of shitty games and dont you dare fuck with it!
Hugs and Kisses,
TemujinBC
Temu, you butt. ❤ CAD incoming.
a general rule of mine is to never take money unless i'm absolutely desperate 😃 But you know, it's a damned shame we weren't as active of friends back in 2009 (unless u changed your nick and oi just cant recall it due to excessive booze intake)... the land of Crimson (aka brucks canucks) was a good, fun place. And this game now... well... a true piece of shit
Actually, Temu, I'm pretty new. I mean, it says I joined in 2008 when the world was young, but I only came back recently. I was level, like, 3, and I though to myself "No, no, this will not stand." So here I am, level 26, and angry at pay-to-win games in general, especially the very barest version of skinner boxes like this one.
Yes, I joined in 2008, but I only became active in... July? What was the month the wipe ended, because I joined in right at the end of that. And I was excited, thinking Canada was kicking Spain's ass. How wrong I was, indeed.
Also, TAKE THE DAMN MONEY, WHOAR
