[CP] State of the Union (Day 2161)
Addy Lawrence
THE MANDATE
On October 5th, a majority of eCanadian voters provided me with a mandate to build an eCanada of vision, passion, and purpose. I have an outstanding team of people to help me achieve this:
Vice-President, Rylde
Vice-President, Acacia Mason
Minister of Defence, klop123
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shoi12
Minister of Finance, Bryan Alexander.
STATE OF THE UNION
Opening Remarks
Well, it didn't take long for the second half of the term to get exciting. Looks like I will see the first foreign affairs turd-storm of the term go off today.
On the back story...
eNetherlands wants to rent more regions from eCanada. They have been trying desperately to secure them dating back to DMV's term last month. They want them bad and they are willing to pay rent of $3,000 CC each region and have made several formal offers as such. This offer is being actively debated in congress.
Concurrently, DMV3 approached me and said that eUS was interested in an eCan region as well, one of the same regions that eNL wants, the same eNL deal that DMV was involved with last month.
I am a proponent of region renting and swapping to increase economic bonuses so I wanted to talk to eUS and explore this. I got the names of the principals involved and started the debate.
On how I was transparent and candid about the two key points at issue today...
I open the negotiations with two critical points. The first is my concern over eUS being able to permit eCanada to hold any regions as this has been a problem in the past:
"This brings me to my first concern. I am not confident that the eUS people will permit any region swap that we agree to. I recall in the past where the eUS government permitted eCanada to retain Michigan and Pennsylvania but the "peasant were restless" and continuously RW'd the regions until they were returned to eCanada. Can you demonstrate the faith of your people in such a region swap and dispel my concerns?"
The second is the time sensitive nature of talks because eCanada is actively negotiating with another country for the same regions:
"eCanada has a complication in that eNL currently holds Northwest Territory and we have a rental agreement in place. They would like to hold additional regions and would be quite willing to open up their agreement as they are interested in up to four regions so they can have a full congress and additional bonuses. I don't mention this as a threat, I mention it as a matter of full disclosure that could complicate a potential deal and also to demonstrate that eCan is serious about getting a deal done and relatively firm on its terms of price."
On how things with the eUS crumbled...
It takes two days for the eUS to express concern that eCan won't be able to hold the regions. Frustrated that their solution to the concern I raised was to agree with the concern, I retort:
"If your peeps don't want to be our bro, then that is cool, no deal. We have a great plan B, do you guys?"
If eUS will not let us retain their regions, why enter into a deal? We have an alternate option for the regions, do they have an alternate option for the regions they want from us? Benefits cost something. Are you prepared to pay the cost for the benefit of the regions?
eUS found my approach too agressive. I found their response too defensive. I was candid and transparent about our situation.
The talks broke off. No deal with eUS.
On defending my actions and responding to allegations of misrepresentations...
The eUS was right, I was putting pressure on them. Aggressive. Assertive. Blunt. Call it what you want, I was pressing them into making a decision because we have a willing partner willing to part with consideration for the exact same regions. That is my negotiating style and I am cool with criticisms of my style.
I am not cool with allegations that I misrepresented things. I made it abundantly clear that I was concerned about the ability to retain the regions AND eCan's competitive interest in the same regions. The fact that those circumstances don't sit well with eUS is their problem to work through and they chose not to work through.
You only get to play out a scenario once. eCanada has a sure bet with eNetherlands, willing to pay rent for the same regions, or a luke-warm bet with a reluctant eUS who isn't prepared to make a decision now nor take measures to ensure that eCan retains what eUS offers.
On my recommendations regarding region rental..
I highly recommend that eCanada reach some sort of deal with eNetherlands for the regions at issue for a term of one month. This is inside the eUS's window of doing something one month out so something could be arranged when eUS is ready, assuming all other terms can be agreed to. More importantly, such a time frame will also span a change in CP in eCanada and a new messenger could craft a message more suitable to them (recall that I committed to leaving after this term).
I highly recommend that the incoming eCan CP approach the CP of eUS about reviving these talks. There is plenty of win/win in region swapping, but it is going to require some give and take from both sides.
Closing Remarks and Shameless Plugs...
I find it incredibly ironic that DMV agreed to rent four regions to eNL but told congress it was one, and left the miscommunication mess for me to clean up AND THEN DMV brings to my attention that eUS wants to swap regions from eCan but eUS turns out to be a reluctant partner in the whole thing and DMV ends up calling me a liar and bully.
You can't write theatre better than this and it reinforces my theory that there is all kinds of book and movie potential with these eRepublik plot lines.
Who's your daddy?

I never told eNL they could have more than one region and Van Spijck can attest to that. This issue was Shoi had tried to woek that out with them when Klop was CP and then went inactive without passing that information on to me.
...and without passing it to me.

IMPEACH THIS MADMAN
"They want them bad and they are willing to pay rent of $3,000 CC each region and have made several formal offers as such"
if they want them so bad cant we get more money for giving them the regions?
They may. Congress agreed to rent the first region for $3,000 but they did not agree to rent three more at that price.
Congress has not established willingness to rent additional regions.
Congress has not established their asking price for additional regions.
Congress would rent additional regions at a fair price
Congress has made suggestions but its the executives job to take the suggestions back to NL if it wants a deal Congress can get behind
I have not observed a consensus emerge from congress regarding "fair price".
I have observed an agreement reached at $3,000
I am not going to play ping-pong with eNL.
then play ping pong with Congress
ask it what it thinks is a fair price for additional regions
I did, check out the post in the thread for eSwitzerland.
Poor eNL, they can't catch a break.
Cut them some slack, Manhattan.
They practically live in wiped oblivion. Let them enjoy the sunlight for a bit, before arguing with this "overstayed their welcome" vibe you are putting out. Are you really going to try and price gouge a rather vulnerable nation. $3k is low for one region, but let it be low. The discount will only help them get on their feet.
You guys have been so wonderfully generous to give them a safe home. Don't tarnish that moment with this petty bickering about their presence.
I'm not saying they overstayed there welcome, they can stay where they are, but if they want to expand so they can have more resources and congress-members then they can pay for it.
I know you didn't say it. I just said the tone had that "vibe"
I like the idea of a progressive rent.
1st region - free for friends ( yay they have a home ! )
2nd region - 3k bargain (weapon bonus is such a huge help)
3rd region - something between 3k and fair rate.
4th region - Fair value of the region.
They aren't getting bonuses from the regions we give them. Their capitol is still in Europe, it has been the entire time they've held the NWT.
Any regions they take now are purely for more Congressmen, and not for resource bonuses. I think that fact is being lost on most people.
Thanks Mug.
I did not notice they still had that region.

USA must learn if you want a bro you better start acting like a bro.
did you read the PM logs?
if you did you wouldn't be making that statement
Lol, crisfire, is it "bro-worthy" to resistance war back regions you agree to give away? eUS openly stated they can't provide assurance
Actually what they said was, they will do what they can to help us keep them but given the global situation they can't make it a daily priority and we'd have to do a lot of the heavy lifting ourselves.
Which for any sound minded person should raise concerns given the huge discrepancy between the military might of our two nations. Or more specifically our organized forces against their mindless two clickers.
Instead of conceding the point like a logical person and finding a way to solve the obvious issue you decided to go the other way and blast them for not being willing to do what's necessary to make this deal work.
At every step of the discussion you countered the valid points and concerns from the eUS with condescension and aggression.
Muglack, they did not say that. Josh Frost sai😛
"I can tell people till I am blue in the face not to fight in a random RW, but sometimes these guys don't listen."
I agree, their RW's to reclaim their country was their priority, not getting this deal done.
Muglack, their points of concern were the points that I RAISED at the outset. It wasn't newsworthy at all.
It must have been news worthy because apparently it was a deal breaker for you when he brought them up.
You pushed for them to take action right away, they said they wanted to wait because they didn't have the regions back themselves yet and we needed to address those issues, and you told them to kick rocks we had another offer.
It's pretty cut and dry to any reasonable person that reads the logs what went down.
Re-read the log.
I was willing to wait on ACTING, I wanted a commitment on DECIDING.
We can't control our two-clickers any better than anyone else can.
The eUS continues to be the petulant spoiled brat that everyone wants to punch in the nose. There is nothing wrong with being assertive and direct on your position. They are crying foul because they are not used to eCan denying them their every whim and want.
Welcome to the new eCan, where they don't bend over and take it just because you say so. eUSA needs another lesson in humility and D'Addy Lawrence is just the one to do use teaching!
I knew that my VP would show up when I needed him, thanks Acacia.
I believe their whim and want was a little more time to discuss the deal
I dont think Auk Rest or Acacia read the PM logs
I was candid with eUS about time being short, right from jump. Now they stand to lose regions to eSwitzerland as well as eNetherlands. I'd prefer to swap regions with eUS than rent regions to anyone else, economic bonuses are the bomb.
Maybe Auk Rest and Acacia just disagree with you crisfire.
We are in disagreement if they come to a conclusion that the US is being a petulant spoiled brat and not willing to be a "bro" from those negotiations
and will do nothing but further their impression that we are the ones that are petulant spoiled brats
I find it odd that the eUS never even tabled this with their people to guage the level of support. Maybe they would lay off the RW if they knew the cost/benefit relationship. It never got that far.
eCanada has definitely demonstrated that level of understanding. Look at how our two clickers have performed in NT with eNL there and in the maritimes with eSpain there.
If their two-clickers don't want to be our bro, then fine. Not a surprise and not an issue, we'll just move on.
@Crisfire
I can't recall the last time I gave two you know whats, what the eUS thought of anyone. My experience with them in game has always been one of an "Us first mentality...and eCan second". Their arrogance over having spent a great deal of time as a "Superpower" is something that was never lost on me...even to this day. I find it somewhat satisfying watching them have to give in to Poland et al on a peace deal...the shoe is now firmly on the other foot.
Regardless though, I can't and wont blame Addy for standing up for what he thinks is in the best interest of eCanada, just as I don't fault you for standing up against him on the issue of the day.
Addy has it right...you could write a book or make a movie with these plot lines...Cripes, its a Soap Opera!
"Days Of Our eCan"
"The Young & The Relentless"
"General Hospitality"
"The Bold & The Fortunate"
I could go on for days LOL!
Your anti US bias of the executive was abundantly clear in these negotiations. Thanks for expressing it so clearly here so we all know where you 3 are coming from.
Don't trust the dutch ~_^
you've obviously seen the inside of their ovens
I hope Canada will consider our original proposal, as officially proposed 14 days ago by my MoF:
As proposed earlier without having had any response this is my proposal and reasoning;
As we have a very low income a decent yet realistic fixed amount is imo unwise and would be very low. As a result of that I propose a deal where the amount is dynamic and depending on the actual income we had. I feel for the 4 regions that are part of the deal an amount of 33% of our income is a fair deal. Atm that would mean around 12k cc/month. If our income rises, as many people suspect once we gain regions that amount would rise as well. To be fair with you; I myself don't expect it to rise that much due to gaining regions. At least not to the extend some do want me to believe.
What do you think of this proposal?
WKR,
W
Take this man hostage. His ransom will be worth more than the rental fees 😃
I'll take that as a compliment 🙂
To be fair, on four regions 12k isn't 1/3rd of your income.
With a 40 person congress you'd get 200 gold which is 40,000CC per month. Already that puts you over your estimated 36k a month in "income".
By your estimates and based on us getting 1/3rd of you total income we would be entitled to 25k and change per month.
Actually Muglack, I think eNL has a tax on congressmembers (50😵 so with your proposition we'd be looking at roughly 18700.
Apart from the tax on congress gold indeed being 50% you're statement is partly valid. True we gain extra due to the gold earned. But as you are most likely aware as well the cc income that can be calculated from the change in country treasure ain't the tax income of a nation. Although admin's still haven't provided ways of keeping track it's very clear that donations to airstrike are included in it as well which would mean the actual revenue is somewhere between what you see and 0 as theoretical it could be all donations. Not that unlikely as we hardly sell anything on our market which leaves only work tax which in a nation without bonusses won't be that high 🙁
Taken that into account and without making it all to difficult the 33% for 4 regions came up with the 12k indication.
I'm amazed that the words in this article are even able to stay on the page with the amount of spin you've applied to them.
The eUS was and is willing to make a deal.
You were rude, obtuse, and more than aggressive.
I did notice that your position on how you acted has changed, At first you weren't threatening or undiplomatic, now it would see you accept that your "negotiating style" can be taken as both.
At the end of the day I think a deal can be done that helps both countries, I just don't think you're the one that can make it happen. Hopefully on the 6th we can re-enter negotiations and get this deal done with little to no trouble.
Josh Frost sai😛
"This isn't a question of being bros or not. Go ahead with your deal with NL. Best of luck to you. "
That sounds like ending a negotiation to me.
That frost guy's word aint worth a darn ~_^
It's more like a parting of ways with someone who is clearly impossible to reason with and a diplomatic nightmare.
I realize he didn't include the shaking of his that went along with this statement, but it's clearly there if you read between the lines.
I would rent to the Netherlands but that's because I love them and they're in more distress than the eUSA. That's not a good enough reason but I'm not a good enough person.
As for the rest... politicians gonna politic.
y u so right?
This executives anti US bias could not be more clearly expressed then in this article and comments and in the negotiation logs. These are the people we have negotiating with the only super power in our alliance? For them to dismiss this deal with such callous disregard for our long term security is nothing short of complete incompetence. They are letting their personal feelings get in the way of doing what is the best interests of this country.
Seriously, you guys appear to have no concept of our countries strategic needs. You act with arrogance and with a chip on your shoulder. We are not some super power who can walk the eWorld on our own. Unless you enjoy being wiped, but I know you don't because none of you 3 were in Canada for the whole wipe. I was, with a lot of other people your suppose to be representing while not letting your personal bias's get in the way.
How about u get off your ass and represent the country with more than peanut gallery remarks in comments by running for CP so everything is done to your perfection.
