Progress is the Attraction That Moves Humanity
Azazel Romanov
Time to talk about some domestic developments. As you know, all of the candidates have announced by now, and the three runners are Artela, Dr. Luis, and Tenshibo. In each of their platforms they have stressed the importance of foreign affairs, and in each of their cabinets they have chosen me to be Secretary of State. I promise not to let the country down next month. That being said, I have decided to remain officially impartial during the race. Each of the candidates has their strengths, mainly in foreign affairs or managing parties, and each has picked a well rounded cabinet to run the show for the next month. However, this itself has become a point of controversy.
For the most part, the presidential candidates have chosen very similar cabinets. Some see this as them not promoting new blood to do jobs, or not choosing different players to allow a diversity of choice. For the first part, I disagree. A lot of these secretaries were put in just last month to do jobs, and I'm getting promoted from deputy. While people complain for lack of difference, I'm also not seeing anyone say "so-and-so is not suited to do that job." They were picked because they were doing our jobs well, and people would like to see them keep doing those jobs. Othere has been an excellent Sec of Interior, Cromstar has performed excellently organizing our USAF, Paul has brought us consistent WHPRs again and made them shine, and Mazzy has made it her favorite hobby to teach the young. Why fix what isn't broken? You're also not seeing deputies chosen, which would likely show quite a difference. For the second part, choosing different people for the sake of them being different isn't actually a recipe for success. I know that half the fun in elections is being ooo-ed and awe-ed by the cabinet choices, but it looks like you'll have to focus on the presidential candidates themselves this month.
Here's another idea. Start participating. And I don't mean write an article complaining about this election, I mean volunteering. Every month presidents put up cabinet applications. Every month departments request recruits. Apply. If you don't get a response, send them a message. If you are turned down, show them you're worthy of the job. Work in your parties and show how you improve them. Work for your government and make them notice you. Instead of writing an article once a month complaining or shouting a disapproving comment, continually participate in the discussion and offer suggestions on how to improve the situation. You don't make progress by standing on the sidelines, whimpering and complaining. You make progress by implementing ideas. I called for this months ago when I was Media Secretary and briefly a Vice Presidential candidate. Some answered, and others continued commenting from the bleachers.
I apologize if anyone thinks I'm targeting them with this because I promise I'm not. I have spent months working in different departments and progressing, I didn't receive all my opportunities overnight. I know you all can reach the top someday, you just have to show that you deserve it. Change takes time, it should not be forced. Become what you want to see in the world, and pass it to others.
Summer is coming, and we are rising.

Which position do you enjoy most? *wink*
Edited to derail your humor.
You mean I have to read it all again? 🙁

"Here's another idea. Start participating"
I made a shout asking for capable players who would be willing to participate in a cabinet, and within 10 minutes I had at least 7 great players respond, none of whom are in any of these cabinets.
Be less condescending.
Plenty of capable people who have earned respect are willing and able. http://www.erepublik.com/en?viewPost=9846289
I counted several on that post already in government, some already asked to serve in cabinets, and others waiting to be asked. In fact I already hired one of them. It's not condescending to tell people to act instead of wait. I apologize if you took this to mean I was saying there was no one willing to participate. I desire those who are willing to actually apply themselves rather than wait their turn. Making yourself visible is quite important.
Bia, we both care about increased access to government, and I respect you and your honesty. When I was Media Secretary, I always sought out new people to hire, and that is also what I will continue to do in other jobs. But reaching out is only one side of it, and it has to be met halfway sometimes.
Maybe it's not what you say but how you said it. That whole "if you want change get involved" argument is bs when we both know how many people there are that want to be, and would be involved if simple given the opportunity.
The cabinets this month are carbon copy, pray for certain votes and screw everyone else bs. I see no one in any of these that couldn't be replaced by MANY different, deserved players.
I just want ONE candidate to think outside the box and they've got my vote. Just ONE that isn't afraid to question the status quo, and who will choose people that don't try to tell us the status quo is the way it is because every other person playing this game is lazy or hasn't earned the right to be included.
I agree that this month that the candidates made similar choices for their cabinets. However, given the way the unity primary system works, picking only Feds for cabinet doesn't guarantee a win, leading me to believe many are merit based choices. And if you truly see talent being ignored, please tell me. Tell others. Honestly, I really want to know who wants to step up, and I will do my best to give them the opportunity in my limited capacity, and I know other players who want to include fresh ideas.
In defense of some the players chosen, I've worked with them, and they've put in the effort to be considered for another term. For example, Othere and Paul Proteus started working last term and both improved the performance of their departments significantly. While I agree there shouldn't be an attitude of "the others aren't good enough," we should still recognize those who are good enough, and want to continue doing it.
However, all players eventually want to move on. I managed to last two and a half terms before deciding I couldn't continue as Media Secretary at full capacity, and I've had 4-5 successors since. People do get promoted and put into service, we just have to make sure that those currently seated are training and promoting those who wish to replace them. And that is something we can ensure.
You might find some different people on my cabinet in regards of Defense. As for the rest, and be noted of that, when people apply for my cabinet they are likely to get a job, either as a deputy (given they have previous experience) or as part of the staff so they can learn their way up.
First time I got in a cabinet I had to work a lot before it and then I had to work even more when I was part of it, I'm totally for giving opportunities to people but when someone has an opportunity they gotta grab it. Just to give you an example: When I was SoS, I fired like 80% of my staff, do you want to know why? Simple: Inactivity, and be noted some of them were fairly new players. I brought back a whole new staff and some of them (black baroness for instance) got promoted due to their hard work, they deserved it. The ones who didn't do much, they get fired up. It's the natural order of things.
When a team is good and keeps up things, they're likely to get back if no one new shows up with enough experience for the task yet.
Good points and I appreciate the responses.
But let's be honest here guys, these carbon copy cabinets were chosen before anyone even put out their announcement articles. So did people REALLY have a chance to apply?
Granted, maybe the DEPUTIES haven't been chosen, but all the Sec spots were.
Come on now. We can spray perfume on it all we want, but it's still really just a cliquey fart underneath.
And to clarify, I think some of those people belong in the cabinet, hell I'd vote Mazzy for PotUS right now over the current three choices. Paul is one of my favorite writers.
My point is...
...the current cabinet choices were presented in articles intended to announce to the public a persons intention of running for CP. No application process was extended, the choices were pre-made...hence, the problem is not that the citizenry is lazy, but in the case of this election at least, they've been excluded from consideration in favor in part of people in certain parties intended to swing said parties primary votes in this crap unity process.
A duck is a duck.
Many don't realise how time consuming a gov position could be. Good luck next month. I expect FAs to be the difference in May
I love that NewAz is writing again.
Voted.
