[DoE] The Battle of Wits is Over! Who won? Find out inside.

Day 1,966, 17:06 Published in USA USA by Department of Citizen Affairs

The entries have been read, the scores tabulated, and it's time to announce the results of the Department of Education's Writing Contest for New Players.

"What one trait do you feel is most important for a eUS President to have?"

We received a great response to this contest, with 13 entries from players ranging from just a few days old in eRep to two and a half months into their eLives. Your articles have filled the eUS media with quality discussion about the traits an eUS President needs to succeed. Reading them all has made my days in eRep more enjoyable, and I'm sure they have done the same for many others in the eUS community.

I hope you will all continue to write, carving out a name for yourselves in the eUS media and adding to the gaming enjoyment of all eUS players.

Now, onto the awarding of prizes.

The winner the Grand Prize of 10 Gold, and the title of Best Young Writer:

Dogpyle with the piece ”One Trait for the Prez”

This is a powerful position we're talking about, and I believe the saying goes: Many traits it takes, for a good President to make (or something like that).

Comments from the judges:

Dr Luis Sentieiro: ”Dogpyle's article was in a light style but with very important key points a president must consider. The points seemed very well sustained and very well understandable, therefore he deserves to win this contest.”

EnterAwesome: ”It was so nicely done. A lot of key points and everything was correct.

SColbert: "I enjoyed the creativity of the article. It is evident that you put a lot of time and thought into making it. Your use of metaphor was what really made it a great article for me to read. Also I am a dog person."

Mazzy Cat: ”I love his style. Honestly it reminds me a tad it of mine, but doglike. He TALKS to you - not AT you.”

Congratulations. You will be receiving your 10 gold award very shortly from our mystery benefactor who has very graciously provided the main prizes for this contest.

We also have six Judge's Choice awards of 1000 USD each for articles that our judges found particularly worthy of praise.

The first Judge's Choice award goes to ...

”On Matters of Virtue...” by Mr.Galt

Just as winter has its thaw, so too does a peaceful silence fall upon the trench warfare that personifies the eAmerican political ring. It is in this time of calm that Americans of all political walks of life hang up the banners and buttons of their parties to observe the result of democracy. United in their hopes, fears, and trust of the individual who will lead them for the foreseeable future.

From Dr Luis Sentieiro: ”Mr Galt defended courageously the courage trait in a president with light and humorous images to illustrate his opinion. The argument seemed very well sustained and raised the point of politics where politicians should not be pointing fingers but yes working together appealing to team work.”

From EnterAwesome: ”I liked his picture and his quote ‘A leader without courage lacks resolve.’ So true.”

Our next Judge's Choice award goes to ...

"The most important trait to have" by Clint Carmel

”There are many traits that a leader could have. A military leader needs strength and some knowledge of strategy and tactics. The leader of a political party needs to have a certain amount of charisma and tenacity. But a country president is different, as they need to be able to simultaneously deal with foreign leaders while also keeping one eye on Congress and the various political parties.”

From EnterAwesome: ”My #1 was Clint because it was well written and thought out.

From SColbert: ”As usual I found your article to be eloquent and yet humorous. I would have to agree that to be a good CP you must be a successful one. Once again your passion for pointing out the obvious did give me a bit of a chuckle."

Next, our third Judge's Choice award goes to ...

”A must have trait for CP” by Funlooker

”Nobody’s perfect.

Being a human, we must have learned, that no one in this world are perfect.

But as a human too, we learned to be a better person, both for ourselves and other people around us.”

From Mazzy Cat: ”Straight up - He picked something I never would of thought about. I love the outside the box approach.”

From Dr Luis Sentieiro: ”Funlooker showed sociability is an important trait for a President and making sure people feel comfortable knowing the President is here to help this country succeed can be an important factor for a strong country.”

Our fourth Judge's Choice award goes to ...

”What Good Presidents Need” by Mungo Monroe

”What qualities make up a good leader? There are literally thousands you could list, but which one is the best? Honesty? Chivalry? Well, yes these are all important in real life and eRepublik politics, but to me at least, there is one greater among them all.”

From SColbert: "Your call for a more open dialogue between parties is inspiring, and I feel there is something to be learned from it."

From Dr Luis Sentieiro: ”Mungo Monroe made us look the political parties into perspective and made us remind that even in the middle of a Political Take-over party such as the AFA there are people who mean no harm to the country.”

Our fifth Judge's Choice award goes to ...

”Democracy Not Hypocrisy” by elation

”I could say that a leader needs to be strong or some other prefabricated cliche adjective that I took out of a thesaurus. I could advocate my political/ epolitical point of view or maybe even bag on another group of people with different views than me. But I am going to do my best to keep this short, and try to put all my biases aside for the the short duration of time that I have your attention.”

From EnterAwesome: ”Because I actually agreed.”

And our last Judge's Choice award of 1000 USD goes to ...

”One Trait eUS President should have” by Bloody Venus

”a president must be able to boast their own eCountry so they can show to the eWorld what can their eCountry (in this case , eUS) do to them all.”

From Mazzy Cat: ”Not afraid to bring up a few of the darker aspects of a leader. That alone landed the piece in my top choices.”

Thank you to all the participants for contributing your work. You made this contest a great success, one that we hopefully can repeat in the near future.

A huge thank you to our judges Dr Luis Sentieiro, EnterAwesome, Mazzy Cat, rainy sunday, and SColbert for your time and energy. We could not have done this without you.
