[Vote for Me] I Have Money - Part 2, Running out of Money
Sir Humphrey Appleby
Running out of money is apparently bad for your national health
Dear friends,
A couple of days ago those of you I count amount my loyal (and most generous) readers will have been subjected to a most uncharacteristic level of moralfagging. It is with great reluctance that I find myself releasing part 2 of it today. But I hope, rather than spending too much time berating the current political situation in the eUK I shall attempt to explore what I consider to be some of the more fundamental problems we as a community find ourselves in. And it is in the interests of working to solve these problems, together, that I will do my best to keep a straight face and embrace a much more inclusive philosophy of recognising we are all players with the noble quest, at the very least, of trying to enjoy the game.
But I’d like to make the argument that this is no longer so much a game as an auction house. And for one very simple reason:-
You cannot make a natural profit in any realistic circumstance beyond your own companies. It is unprofitable to employ anyone. The government operates on usually less than a third of its revenue since Plato dropped its ‘non-existent’ bot, making a national army unfeasible. In short, the actual financial firepower of the community and its own government can very easily be outsourced by even a moderate ‘gamer’ that is prepared to make it worth the admins’ while. And it is when people such as these do go through with their magic wand that entire communities are built up and sustained through what I can only call the magic tap.
But it is not necessarily the magic tap that keeps these types of parties alive (as by its use in the system is has necessitated the creation of other ‘taps’ as a rival bid). It is the unavoidability of the brute fact that in a fundamentally unprofitable system, the biggest hand-out is King. And so the system is created where political parties’ authority is simply based on the strength of their subsidy. High up on their podiums I do wonder how party leadership make out the beliefs and values of their changing member base. And when the only action of these party leaderships is to do the weekly rounds I think you get a good impression of just what that is. When actual political value itself is eroded, when fair participation and contention is mutated by artificially clogging up the top 5 parties as well as media; when the only item on the agenda is divide and rule – this is not just an auction but a chilling collide of puppet shows.
And it is necessarily in the great plot of this puppet show that the old relics and institutions are washed away in the new political tide of ‘how to be legends/free from the elite’. If you are active enough to read this then you’re probably well aware that UK Reform has been knocked out of the top 5 by Alfa’s new host the far-left UK Independence Party. It is a fair victory that after all these years he has finally managed to do it, albeit with his 3rd official attempt ([18:26]
But it is in this fiendish last paragraph that I finally address the point of running out of money. As most run out of money under the current system it is important to bear a few things in mind. One, It is the first duty of any government to ensure it keeps a balanced book. This needs reflected diligence on taxes with a careful but considerate hand on tax rebates for citizens that genuinely need it. It is something that any CP should be aware of (and any MoF usually IS aware of). Two, the community itself should be trying to bring people to the collective table rather than effectively forcing people into a much narrower party political position. We should be presenting a more inclusive and productive front and setting an example. The attractiveness of what we can offer as a National Community should be the first and foremost means of ensuring National Retention. If we act as sordid competing tribes in the drag act of selective charity then we will continue to deserve very much what it has coming to us. But it is through a considered reflection of true political value, of a chance for debate, the civility to put down the metaphorical gun for just a moment and get to know the other fellow players of your community. If you are one of the few that stays around for eRep then there must be something wrong with you – but it is through this severe fault of personality that you have something in common with everyone else.
It is perfectly within our means to progress together, in unity, for a new era; every single one of us, reforme
😛as a people.
It would just be helpful if there was a bit more to it than a few tanks here and there.
Yours,
Appleby

Once again this is an excellent article that highlights some great points. Only issue is; it's raising the bar, that I aspire to, damn high on article writing.

"It is perfectly within our means to progress together, in unity, for a new era; every single one of us, reforme😛 as a people."
Nicely - and cleverly - said. All around the eWorld there are countries falling prey to internal squabbling. The game itself is making it almost inevitable, but I believe the eUK has shown the capacity to overcome this and come out victorious. Let's put aside the petty differences and power plays and work together for our common good!
Your party has struggled to move forward with the current trends of eRepublik - I fail to see how that was anybody else's fault.
Maybe the fundamental problem is your failure to accept that nobody else is to blame for natural progression based on the arena that Plato has created for us. The game becomes more driven towards money every day.
You seem to think that offering rewards also means these parties have no subsistence, how do you explain UKPP's progress to #1? NE's rise? UKIP's rise?
>"High up on their podiums I do wonder how party leadership make out the beliefs and values of their changing member base. And when the only action of these party leaderships is to do the weekly rounds I think you get a good impression of just what that is."
This is key....
The new parties I've been in don't have leadership councils, pedestals or ivory towers every player has an equal shot at making something of themselves in the party without first having to go through some kind of initiation ritual or waiting period.
This 'equality' translates into how the party operates - we're not forced to talk to our members or come up with some fancy scheme or position to do so......we just do it.
If you mean we can't afford to keep up then you are making a valid point.
If you read this article I am not allocating anyone any blame for the current financial situation, only commenting on the system of handouts and it's effects on the community.
UKPP has progressed because they have got rid of Alfa's influence and got their own core. They also have a competitive handout and a strong community, but no dissimilar from the other 3 or 4 :3
We go to them not insist they supplicate themselves or beg to us to recive favours.
You slate the (currently named) UKIP for having no policies and it's true we have none. This is because we are a week old and our policies are not being imposed from on high but will be generated by the entire party.
and the weekly rounds.............I love them because in 'forcing' me to honour my obligations it also means I keep in contact with those I visit and can continously guage opinion.
The only attraction of your party thus isn't it's political policy but it's subsidy - proving the point of this article
and all this is what gives a party its base and its core values.
In time, its my hope that you will see the rise of the new Wayne's LM, RFeists and slaxors as they 'usurp' me and take the (currently named) UKIP where they think it should go.
It's a continual revolution of evolution - If you stand still and fail to keep reforming then you die as a party!
I would say TUP has no ivory tower, considering I stand before you as proof that it is open to all to be PP, or Congress member. Hell, I could toss my hat in the ring for CP if I thought I had a shot at winning it, or even had the inclination.
We have a democratic process of deciding on PP and CP candidates, as well as discussions for our manifesto.
Very well said.
Voted and shouted
You do write bloody good articles..and from what I have seen of your handywork on Minecraft that isn't bad either
I agree with you, with such low income it's impossible to run a country, hence private "institutions" pop up.

You say that UKRP wants to compete on policy rather than giveaways, but I don't think that UKRP is doing well on policy?
I put some giveaways in for New Era after seeing what other parties did, but tbh not alot of people have taken me up on them. I think that only a small number are bothered by them.
Voted. : ) As said above, you write bloody good articles.
"It is perfectly within our means to progress together, in unity, for a new era; every single one of us, reforme😛 as a people."
Very clever. ; D
minecraft sucks
Appears like Alfa wouldn't have a problem with all of UKRP joining UKIP, taking his handouts, and "generating" some policies - as there is nothing to UKIP other than handouts at the moment, there is literally nothing to be lost by doing so. Am I correct?
We, New Era, are the true reform that will bring progress, in a real unity of every single one,
working for our rights, because, most of us are workers that share a common aim of having fun in
this game, independently of coarsed minecrating elites.
does it improve
"It is perfectly within our means to progress together, in unity, for a new era; every single one of us, reforme😛 as a people." ?
alfa seems butthurt as usual

Çök güzel
"alfa seems butthurt as usual"
As does Alphabethis...tbh I think he's more butthurt than most of TUP combined. Yes even including Dan and Iain.

"And so the system is created where political parties’ authority is simply based on the strength of their subsidy."
I'm not sure this is true. Since all parties are basically offering the same level of subsidy, then there really isn't a need for any player to decide between subsidy and ideaology. Join a party on the basis of policies and you'll almost certainly get all the subsidy you need.
That is not necessarily true, a brief analysis of rival subsidies (and the extent to which they are advertised) would show they vary quite substantially
In left wing parties I feel it's simply just role-play to offer your members things.
Many of them work in our companies and so we give them products they produce. Others are new players who strengthen our division 1 and 2. It's also difficult to compete in such a way against established parties without being willing to drop 3-400 gold a week on a party for its first few months; if you can afford it and believe you can make change, why not do it? It's just good innovation after all.
Last 24hrs....
One Gov subsidy - CoTA.
Two New Era - Bonus ball.
One private nationwide subsidy - Big idea.
Going another day back...
One private giveway - Troll Eiss
TUP - TUP Family
My god we're swamped!
Great article.
