An introduction to eLife

Let me introduce you to eLife. This is a planned reoccuring article which will appear in eToast. The project is all about hearing from people from all over the eWorld, how their eLife is going and what they think of us, the eNL.

Each new article will represent a person and that person will represent their country. Sounds like a big task for a single person, but that's what makes it good, the people i choose will be totally random and hopefully just an ordinary eFolk, giving us a better overall picture of what other people think!

I've played eRepublik on and off since December 2008, and when I was born in Ireland on October 2009, my understanding of the Netherlands' could not have be less clouded. Back in that day it was World War 3, Peace-GC was battling everything in creation and in my mind there was a virtual "Iron Curtain" in place. People back then never tried to understand the enemy much and propagandizing was at its peak. I never did give it much thought to join a P-GC country, though at times they did seem to win in the see-saw rhythms of World Conflict.

Ireland was a peaceful place mostly, it took years for them to join an Alliance after the fall of the Northern Alliance. Eventually, however, I emigrated to the United States and was surprised to have met a great many Dutch there. Over my time in the Special Forces I have come to know them as a tight nit and experienced group in eRepublik society.

If I were to point them out one by one: Trical is the most comically abrasive, Garmr has great music tastes and has served in the US Defense Department for a reason, Luuk-lag is on the ball and does everything by the book, epix is an extremely strong fighter always in a phone calls distance of attacking the enemy, Auggustus is the reserved gentleman. I'm sure there are more that I've met in my past few months in the Special Forces, but they stand out.

The United States has been invaded on two major occasions in World War V and the Netherlands' too has seen great dangers. That's why I am happy to see both nations back in step, there's obviously something special in both our nations relationship that keeps both Party's willing to come to eachothers aid as they have done.

Last term we saw an over expenditure on MPPs, how was this possible and how badly did it effect finance? Did we have the money to cover the losses?

Let me first give some excact numbers, to make the answers a bit more clear.
The government had a budget of 174,109 NLG (next to the Defense budget).
The government expeditures for this month where 176,000 NLG.
In the budget we didn't count in the expenditures of the rw costs (96,716 NLG), as they where taken from the National Reserve (200K NLG)

So the government actually had 'only' a over exenditure of 1892 NLG.

How could this happen?
Well, on the second last day of the governments term, Cyprus proposed a MPP with the Netherlands. Nor the CP, Mofa or MoF where aware of this proposal on forehand, as we agreed with each other to not sign any more MPP's because of the budget.

Ofcourse you can always say, use some of your monthly budget a ‘reserve’ for the end of the month, and I agree with them. But especcialy this month we agreed to spend it half way this month on MPP’s because there was a possible option we had to NE Poland, which is totally useless without the MPP’s signed, (USA, Argentina, Croatia, Canada).

Now let us look at results for next month.

The over expenditure of 1892 can be covered by the National reserve which was 268,100 NLG.
However the government used 96,716 NLG from this National reserve as well for the costs of rw’s to free NL.
This makes currently the National reserve is 171,384 NLG.
As the law states (Chapter III, article 5.7) the National reserve should atleast hold 200,000 NLG.
So current government have to decide how they are gonna make this level again. There are several options to do this, but with a total budget of 378,393 NLG this should not become a very big problem for them.

How do you find being minister of finance, is it something that keeps you playing erepublik or do you find it a chore?

Well, I pretty like the job. Especcialy the part of regulating the budget for the government, keep an eye on the income and expenditures, and recall the President when he trows the NLG all over the place give me a mighty feeling 🙂
Next to it, its not a very busy job, just a daily check on the accounts and fill in the correct numbers is all you have to do.

Your one of the eOldest and most senior members of the eNL, it must be easy to gain positions in the government, knowing all the right people.
What can you suggest to newer players on getting into the government or getting themselves known?

Become active! That’s the most important part of the game. When nobody hear you, you will not be asked as well.
The best thing to do this is to start at your party. Try to become active for the party, maybe propose some small plans for the party, or for the country, that can be proposed by your party.
The most important is ofcourse, make yourself noticed by others. Join in at the forum, IRC, and the media!

What would you do with 1,000,000 gold? 😛

I will exchange it for euro’s and buy the game from the current owners.

MU self-supporting program

Alpha Units Self-supporting Program
Every unit or government always has limited supplies. Generally you always have too little supplies to help everyone… As Alpha Unit we recognize this problem and have come up with a solution. Besides supplies and rewards for military rank progress we at Alpha Unit also try to get people self-supporting.

“Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for the rest of his life.” This is essentially what we do in Alpha Unit. Instead of keeping our members dependant on supply handouts we give them the means to produce their own supplies! We do this by giving out free q4 companies to our members! It’s a long-term project that will yield much more benefit for everyone in the end! At the moment we can give 1 q4 company away every 7-10 days. And thus far we have giving away 17 q4 companies!

Enjoy this edition? Then shout it! It would mean a lot to me.
