I'm Really Not Liking This War(editorial)

God damn. Can you say shitstorm?

You know, when this war was announced, I was kind of surprised(the PropagandaSAUR was a pretty big tip, but then somebody let it slip on the forums lol), but mostly excited. We were going to be one of the first countries to try out the war module. For real, not like the unions that've been happening. But then I read the comments on Nave's article. Good God, ya'll. You guys put Hilary Clinton to shame. And that chick has no shame.

Seriously, I was really surprised by the Canadian's reaction. They took it really personally. And then they started getting support from other countries. And then I started reading the forum. Jesus, does everybody really hate America that much?(notice the lack of 'e') I mean, I know that their's a lot of tension on the inside because of a terrible situation in Iraq, and I used to feel the same way. "Why are we even there?" I asked my government teacher one day. She didn't have a very good explanation, nothing that involved why we went there in the first place. Well, I remember talk about WMB's and Sadam not letting UN inspectors in, but it'd been so long, I needed a refresher. Then I saw a two-hour show on PBS about it that went through the entire war, the entire struggle, the entire thought process from 9-11 until now.

It was about WMB's after all. Hmm. Well, wtf. How did it turn into this gang-versus-America war that it is now? Well, according to the show, it was a lot of bad people being hired by Bush and his advisors. I don't mean bad like how your dad used it when he explained why Captain Hook was going after Peter Pan, I mean bad like....well they made bad decisions. Like not taking out the guy that's heading the (idk, Shiites?) when he was first identified as a threat, and the guy they put in charge of turning Iraq into a democracy turned out to be a real asshole. Basically, what I took away from that is that Donald Rumsfeld was a jackass. The way they portrayed it, it looked like most of Bush's advisors were friends of his that he didn't want to turn down, but were no good. That's what I got from it......

And I know some of you are thinking: "Well, there were no WMD's, so, ya know, America sucks lol," so let me just clear this up for you. Sadam Hussein was accused of making WMD's, and denied the UN inspectors access to look for them. That's a red flag, right there. So he didn't have them. Why didn't he let them in? And you might think this is a great example of stupidity. But it's not. It's an example of nuclear weapons being serious business.

Anyways.....let me get back into the eWorld for the rest of this....

My main point is this: this war sucks. I was excited about it at first, but fuck, you guys. You really know how to suck.........wait for it............wait..................the fun out of a game. I've been loving the hell out of eRepublik, once I figured it out. It's the perfect online game for me. I've always wanted to play an MMORPG, but I don't have a good graphics card. I don't play on the computer. And I don't have very much money, so I can't even play Final Fantasy XI on my PS2. So when I found out how much fun eRepublik was, I fell in love. I'm not afraid to say it. I freaking love eRepublik. It's everything that Web2.0 represents. I describe eRepublik to my friends as a browser based nation simulator slash RPG. The first thing that struck me was that it was completely player-based. I saw the forums and articles filled with people talking about how to grow their GDP, trying to figure out ways around the limitations of the game(not talking about war yet, here), and how eRepublik could be improved. I love it when I see people actively working to make the world, or eWorld a better place to be in and experience.

WARNING: This has nothing to do with the war, read it or don't. It contributes nothing to my point.

So I looked for ways that I could contribute without taking somebody's thunder. What I decided on was that there weren't enough newspapers that focused on international news. Especially in eAmerica. So I started planning a newpaper, reading everything that I could, everywhere. I considered forming a group of publishers from different countries that contributed news from their home country to each other in one big newsey fiesta. And then zaney posted a topic saying the same damn thing. So of course I joined him, kingofapples, jimutt, Aureliano Triste,
isnuwardana and Titu Maiorescu. Pretty soon, most of the people that signed up started dropping out, ubtil it was just Titu, zaney, and I. Eventually those two said that they couldn't do it, and left. So, with the International News Agency in shambles, I carried on that name, hoping that I'd attract some new jounalists. I actually got a message from one person, but really, I'd been on my own for a while and had gotten used to it. So I told him that he was the only person who'd approached me about it, and that I was just going to change my name and cancel the agency. And so since then I've written a few articles that I'm proud of, particularly the one about the Italian businessman in France, because it was small news, not something you'll find on the international pages, but still pretty interesting if I do say so myself.

ATTENTION: Usless ramble over. You may continue your regularly scheduled article.

And so I've found my place in eRepublik, and I've gotta say, I'm kind of proud of myself. I write relevant, interesting article, again, if I do say so myself. And I haven't overlooked the other international papers. N3mo's offsite (in English, it's in Indonesian here) paper is really good, and I just recently joined the site. Banach started his paper when I asked on the forums if there are any good international papers, and I've been a subscriber to The Ottowa Times for a long time, now. I really respected him before he started flaming Americans(again, no 'e') in Nave's article. And yes Banach, I really didn't know you were a guy. I had the same problem with Vos. Idk why, but when I see girls on an avatar, I think it's a girl. But keep your avatar's guys, it's always nice to look at pretty women when you're....................well, any time.

It Banach's comments that really got to me. Maybe it's because I was a fan of his paper, or maybe because he said some really shitty things. But I was really taken aback at the ferocity of him(at the time I was thinking he was a girl, so ya know, hormones came to mind). But then I thought: well hell, it's an rpg, why not have some fun? But it wasn't fun. I think him and the other Canadians are actually serious about being so pissed off. Or maybe I've been intellectually checkmated........hm..........

Well now that we've won some areas, we're getting spammed like crazy. Of course I saw this coming, you guys said you'd do it days ago. So I've been collecting links and sending them off to the admins, but really, I kinda feel bad for these guys. Maybe I'm just a softy, and maybe Banach really got to me....but I hate feeling like this. You guys are making me really hate this war, and almost want to quit eRepublik. I'm not going to, but fuck, people. Calm down. Yeah, we declared war on you. Surprise! And yeah, I used an exploit to fight a few Canadians. If it makes you feel any better, I spent a lot of money moving from hospital to hospital before I figured out that I didn't have to move. I still have a pretty good cache of moving tickets that I can't get rid of. Maybe I'll use them to backpack through Europe this summer, who knows. We really need a resale option.

But I hope we can put this business behind us. I know a lot of you feel like we're giant assholes and want to leave. Well then go. Don't have money? Earn it. You can't say this war was in vain, we've pointed out several bugs that the Czech, Slovakians, and British hadn't found, and they've been warring since Wednesday.

I wish that we could get together and stop this hate. I actually liked a few of you before the flames came at us. Banach, we'd be rival international newspapers in the same country, don't you think that'd be fun? Probably not.........

tl;dr(for you Pakistanians): The Canadians' bitching and spamming is making me regret supporting this war.
