The Pros of Being Born in a Small Nation

The Illuminator

Welcome back to The Illuminator! I just published an article last night but since then I've seen this article by Dr. Pain. If you don't want to look, basically he is having a competition for the best article. I don't really want to win, but I thought it would be a great excuse to make another article.

The Pros of Being Born in a Small Nation

If you've read my first article or have seen my profile, you know that I'm pretty new to eRepublik. Since birth, I have been eSwiss. I understand this was probably not the easiest way to start, as Switzerland was completely conquered by Slovenia and Macedonia then, but I don't regret it.

The pros for starting out in a completely occupied, tiny nation:

As you can see there are many benefits to starting with literally nothing for a country. Things weren't bad forever, though. Once we got one region, life got a lot easier. That's where the advantages of being in a small country kick in, with having at least one region.

Pro 1: Never ending training wars! There was never a day where I didn't have a war to train in, which is pretty remarkable considering we don't even have any MPPs, so there aren't any additional wars from them. Only once or twice did I have to go to France or Italy to train. There is always a RW going on in Switzerland. Only about 5% of them are successful, but who cares! I'm two months old and close to becoming level 24! That's pretty good, if I do say so myself. Well I think. I'm not sure with all of these new missions if that's even worth anything. Whatever.

Pro 2: There might not be many citizens of Switzerland, but there are still a good number of congress seats. There were only 3 people that didn't qualify for a congress seat in yesterday's election. If you're a pretty good player, it wouldn't be hard to get a congress seat here. That is, as long as you're truly dedicated to eSwitzerland and you're not a PTOer. Unfortunately, though, there is at least one PTOer in congress right now. But as long as there is no PTO, it's easy to do your part in helping eSwitzerland become a better place. (I haven't run for congress, and I probably won't for a while as I'm still very new)

Pro 3: You know everyone. Maybe not personally, but there are only 277 Swiss citizens right now. Maybe one third of that are the people that actively contribute. So that's only a few dozen names to remember. There is no better-than-you attitude among any of the powerful players that I've met here. Every man (and woman) is created equal! This means it is very easy to make friends.

Pro 4: It seriously is not difficult at all to get your articles seen. It's much harder in a bigger country. Let's take Macedonia for example. The bottom article on their top media page has 120 votes. Here in Switzerland, the bottom article on our first page has 8 votes. In fact, there aren't even enough articles to make a second page. This article will make the tenth article on the Swiss page (at least until some get erased off later). That's got to be some record or something, at least for my lifetime.

Pro 5: It's fun! That's what this game is all about, right? No? The game is about spending all of your real life money to attempt to gain power in a silly online game? Well I guess I'm not good at this game, then.

So, there is some good to being born here. I definitely enjoy living in eSwitzerland, and that's all that really matters.

Before I leave, here's an image I made reflecting the influence of countries in our area (I don't think it's very accurate, except for the Swiss part)

Good luck Switzerland and Good luck World!

P.S. I said this in my last article, but again: Congratulations new and old congress members! I'm sure you'll do great things, all of you. 🙂
