Day 3369 of the New World
February 9, 2017

16 Shells stumbled upon a rare find today, a New Citizen in eRepublik! Rather than write an article about this breaking news, we instead decided to turn it into an interview whereby we older players might learn a thing or two about the psychology and mindset of a new citizen. So we present here our very first interview with... a New Citizen

16 Shells: Welcome to the New World! What was the first thing that really struck you as unique about eRepublik the very first day you played?

New Citizen: I was really impressed by how, even though the game is obviously in Beta, some people are active. Most Beta games that are this far from being fully developed into a total working concept have players, but they are not that active. It will be really cool to see what happens to this game once it finally launches.

16 Shells: I see. I should probably tell you that the developers do not consider this game “Beta”, but I can understand what would lead you to think that. So now you’ve logged back in a few times, what dynamics of the game most interest you already?

New Citizen: Houses seem cool. I totally look forward to the Q6 and Q7 houses that it says are “coming soon”. I also noticed that on the Gold and Other Items page they are listing 6 more items that are “coming soon”. That’s what’s got me interested in logging back in, I am really eager to see what those items will be. To me it is a great sign that a game like this lets you know when something new is right around the corner. It builds my anticipation and excitement. I am a tiny bit surprised, though, that there is no information anywhere on the eRepublik Forum about what the Q6 and Q7 houses will do, but I am sure that information will be released by the game administrators very soon. Also, what’s this thing called “Perception” that it says is also “coming soon”? That sounds totally awesome!

16 Shells: Well, honestly nobody knows what’s going on with any of that, and some of those “coming soon”s have been there for, like, 6 years. But I admire your fresh enthusiasm. Tell us what your goals are for your Citizen over the course of the first few months?

New Citizen: Good question. I read on the eRepublik Forum that it will be possible to be a local governer, and since I’m kind of interested in politics I think I’ll do that. I just haven’t figured out yet how to run for governer. I also want to buy a Weapons Company and begin selling products to other Citizens so that I can make a nice profit from that. It seems like a great use of Gold. At first I thought it would be pretty cool to develop my strength and win some Battle Hero medals in Division 1, but then I started noticing a bunch of Division 4 guys totally overwhelming the Division 1 guys for the medal. At first I thought it must just be one of the Beta bugs that the game administrators would be working to fix, but now I see that it is a game feature. I hope they remove that feature once eRepublik officially launches as a game because it would be nice to set the goal of earning some Battle Hero medals. Us little guys sure could use that extra 1 Gold. So yeah, run for Governer of New Hampshire, that’s Goal #1, and my second goal would be to overthrow the dictator. I can’t for the life of me understand why the virtual United States of America should have a Dictator. And when I learned that Congress has no actual power under a Dictatorship it made even less sense. Maybe you can explain that to me. But yeah, I would like to overthrow the dictator, so once my weapons company starts raking in the big profits I’ll be saving up the currency to do that.

16 Shells: Um… Once again, you have awesome goals in mind, in fact many of those goals are reflective of how eRepublik markets itself - become a business tycoon, a successful politician, etc. But I feel obligated just to let you know that they may never introduce the Governership module, the Dictatorship module - as much as it is a Congress killer and a cancer on social engagement - it’s sort of necessesary to have, and you shouldn’t waste your Gold on a weapons company because the return on investment for that is like 4 years. But hey, with energy like yours you are sure to develop some other goals that are actually feasible in this game like… um… I know, get 100 friends in your friends list!!! That’s a fantastic and exciting goal which truly shows you what kind of a game this is. One final question, do you plan to spend any real life money in this game?
