I spent a few days stumbling around trying to figure out what was actually going on. I know it's been overstated lately, I just wanted to say it. Also, this article will probably be pretty long. I'm being completely serious in this article and writing all my thoughts down, no matter how small they seem to me. The first section is me venting over the current situation, the second section is some stats on the prospective SEA and my thoughts on it.

The Idea of Merging

I see it over and over again, citizens have no problem with a merge. What they do have an issue with is which nation gets to incorporate the other two. Why? I don't get it. I understand that you feel a connection and a loyalty to your respective countries, but why do you feel the need to defend the name and physical existence of those countries? This is what I have issue with and that's what I want to discuss here.

Firstly, these countries aren't real. In RL yes, they are real, but here, they are not. I just don't understand what the big deal of seeing a nation inside a computer cease to be on a map, which is also, only inside the computer. The name, in my opinion, is also a bad point. If the three nations merge, a new name will be used. Whether it's SEA, FRoSEA v2 or whatever the hell we decide to name it, ALL THREE NATIONS WOULD LOSE THEIR NAME, because we would no longer be three individual nations, but ONE with a common name. In-game the name would remain with whoever merged the other two into it, but again, who cares what a fake map inside a computer names us?

Secondly, why does everyone get so defensive about the existence of their nation and it's name, when the people that make up that nation aren't meeting their full potential because of it? Your loyalty shouldn't be placed in the physical existence or name of your eNation, but rather the people that make up that nation. By shooting down the merge simply over disputes of who gets to be the "ruler" of the new nation, you are preventing the citizens of those countries from having the same benefits they would have by being a part of the larger, merged nation. To me, sacrificing the name and physical existence of your eNation for the well being of the citizens of that eNation is a higher sort of honor than can be achieved from defending that eNation from the threats around it.

So what I don't understand is why the citizens of eMalaysia(sorry I don't really have info on the other two) refuse to try the merge and would rather go it alone, even though it's damn obvious now that we can't stand alone. Few nations would offer to stand by us now, no matter the cost, we're lucky that we still have allies like ePH and eChina. We're lucky that so many other countries around us are willing to extend a hand, all we have to do is ask for it. Some of the new players and even some of the older players probably don't realize just how many nations we could call upon if the situation called for it. A few months ago, as the PTO was finally taking over, the nations of ePH and eChina rushed to our aid, region swapping and sending ATOers to help us in the elections. I don't believe I ever publicly thanked them for that, so...THANK YOU ePH AND eCHINA FOR ALL THE HELP YOU GAVE AND ARE STILL WILLING TO GIVE US WHEN WE NEED IT.

These nations are willing to stand by eMalaysia, yet when they offer the opportunity for eMalaysia to truly become strong, or at least more secure. We throw it back in their faces over what, a name on a map? We're better than that. eMalaysia has been in decline ever since the PTOers first stepped foot on our soil. The majority of the damage wasn't even created by the PTOers, the physical damage was, but not the damage that haunts us now. Our political system is in turmoil, when our leaders do something that appears necessary to them, they are reprimanded without end. The choice by nicholas to keep the plans a secret was not an unusual one in the eWorld, only in eMalaysia. He may have kept them secret longer than necessary, but not by a whole lot. Should the citizens of eMalaysia speak up when they believe they've been mistreated? Hell yes, I'm not saying they shouldn't. However, the constant reprimanding from all sides, the unceasing torment delivered over one small decision is completely unnecessary.

I've seen it countless times over the past few months, once a bad decision is made, the leader that made it never lives it down and never recovers from it. Maybe you haven't heard of the others, because they've all left the game, or at least eMalaysia. In the past I've actually been hesitant to make big decisions for fear of being ostracized by the citizens of eMY. Think about what you say next time you make a personal attack on someone, you could cause unrepairable damage to a badly needed eMalaysian citizen and to yourself as well. As noveras said a few days ago, its time to leave these things behind us and start new.

Now that I'm done venting.

Stats for the Merge

A lot of stats have already been posted HERE by Hekter, you should really read his article to supplement this one. I'll be copy/pasting some of his info, but not all of it(i.e if it's in "", Hekter said it)

I'm not to familiar with eSG so unfortunately I can't give any good conclusions on their stats, sorry 🙁

"The eWorld has 213464 Citizens (100😵 and 526 Regions (100😵
ePhil has 438 Citizens (0.21😵 and 4 Regions (0.76😵
eMy has 703 Citizens (0.33😵 and 3 Regions (0.57😵
eSing has 246 Citizens (0.12😵 and 1 Region (0.19😵
SEA would have 1387 Citizens (0.65😵 and 8 Regions (1.5😵

Election Results [latest election data available]
ePh [Nov Presidential] 79 Votes (28.83% Presence)
eMy [Oct Congress] 91 Votes (23.76% Presence) [PTOers were still present.]
eSing [Nov Presidential] 38 Votes (23.46% Presence)
SEA would have roughly 208 voting citizens."

These stats are very interesting for a number of reasons. These show that eMalaysia has both the highest number of citizens and the highest number of voting(active) citizens. Unfortunately digging deeper you also realize that eMalaysia has the most PTOers and zombies of the three. This means that even though eMalaysia appears the strongest of the three, the ePhilippines is most likely the actual strongest of the three.

Paraphrasing some other stuff Hekter said, the economy of SEA would be far better than that of the three countries divided. We would have 3 High Regions and 8 Medium regions, good numbers for a country of only 8 territories. Unfortunately, we would still be lacking titanium and iron, but good news, our friends the Chinese have both as High regions. Our economy could be booming in no time with some gov't help and some basic education about business.

Militarily, SEA would be completely protected because of the new MPP rule. If any of the regions were attacked all MPP's would be activated, meaning we can now spend 100 G rather than 300 G like it would take now to all sign an MPP with one country. SEA would have a larger military as well since less citizens would be needed for politics and other non-military roles, not to mention the larger number of players in general.

Politically, we would have less congressmen which has both positives and negatives. The positives including a smaller chance of PTO and a better congress because of the competition that would need to be involved now that basically every active citizen can't have a seat. The negatives being that less gold would be earned through congress elections, but will most likely be made elsewhere because of the Union anyway.

There are of course some negatives involved with this. The biggest being that if SEA were to ever split up, which it undoubtedly will someday, open citizenship would cause a period of PTO/ATO. However, it hasn't yet been mentioned how the nations of SEA could easily work together to help keep the seceding nations free. Remember, it's open citizenship for everyone, not just the PTOers. Another big issue is the RW's that would be started to mess with us and attempt to break up the Union prematurely. For this, we'd simply have to rely on a stronger military and backing from other allies. Plus, as it's already been pointed out, free TW's for all \o/

So all the negatives seem to be counterbalanced with a positive at least in small part, so what's the big deal? It comes back to who should be the nation that "swallows" the other two. So I've done a little calculating and have my conclusion on the matter.

The "Lucky" Nation

Factors I looked at:
MPP's
Cost to integrate
PTOers with citizenship

MPP's

eSG-None
eMY-None
ePH-None

Hmm, was honestly not expecting that.

Cost to integrate

ePH-196G
eSG-288.8G
eMY-194.2G

The number is how much gold it would cost the nation to integrate the other two if both countries are whole. As you can see, when Malaysia is whole, it costs almost the same for either ePH or eMY to integrate the other two. However, at this moment Sabah belongs to ePH which means that it would be much cheaper for them.

PTOers with citizenship

eMY-Alot of Serbs kept citizenship
ePH-Some Serbs kept citizenship
eSG-I have no clue, but I don't think very many

So eSG probably takes this one, however, it's so costly for eSG to integrate the other two I don't think this makes up for it.

My Conclusion

ePH is the best choice to integrate the other two countries. As it stands, it is cheaper and there's a smaller chance of PTO compared to eMY. Even if eMY was whole and it was cheaper for eMY to integrate the other two, I think the large number of Serbs that have retained eMY citizenship make it a bad choice.

tl;dr version
Wake up and quit being stupid
ePH is the best choice for a merge
