I slept for a solid hour before I prepared my return to duty. Far Eastern Russia has been a warzone for weeks now and the last thing I remember before falling asleep was the sound of tanks and rifles. Even in the makeshift camp of the Training Corps’ 303rd Skullcrushers, we could here the battle coming closer. The Russians were fighting hard that night, they had almost a renewed zeal when they starting this Resistance War. For now, many of the 303rd soldiers rest. 1st Lieutenant Komari is still awake keeping watch. It’s time for me to take his place. I load my rifle, adjust the scope, and watch the cold wasteland that is Far Eastern Russia.

Keeping an eye out for Russians...

After my four hours of guard duty, I was happy to have five hours of sleep. But when I woke up, the battlefield had moved much closer to the American and Allied encampments. Just outside our camp, we could see Russian tanks and Helicopters. This was it. The Russians had surrounded much of our encampment. 1st Lieutenant Komari organized our troops, some of them wounded, most of them low on ammo, all of them hungry.

But as Skullcrushers, we knew we couldn’t rest any longer. Corporal John Winter, Private First Class princefigs, Private Zeggie, Private Tyro Tallanie, and the celebrity in our platoon, Private Colin Lantrip, are all great soldiers and had fought hard these past few days. The President impressed us all with his ferocious presence on the battlefield. He had a great tank, but after so many battles, it needed a rest.

Instead, we took Zeggie’s tank. It was beat-up, but he knew how to handle her in the most intense situations. Colin manned the cannon as Zeggie piloted. Tyro took the MG on top while princefigs and I sat on the outside of the tank with our rifles.

This tank will do. For now...

Komari and John took a helicopter to gain a better view of the field. John’s becoming a great pilot through his training. Komari’s artillery piece had been sabotaged a few hours before by the Russians, but he is still good with a rifle.

We charged into the battlefield. As soon as we reached the frontlines, princefigs and I jumped into a crater for cover.

Zeggie and his crew unleashed a barrage of shells and bullets. I cleaned the scope on my rifle from the dirt and dust that shot up from the constant bombardment. I took careful aim at a few Russian infantrymen charging the lines. One bullet, one skull. Pricefigs laid down some fire of his own, but a Russian jumped into our crater. The butt of princefig’s rifle crushed that skull good.

They say it’s cold in Far Eastern Russia. Not if you have been fighting Russians for hours on end. And knowing that a big guy like Colin is cramped in Zeggie’s tank, I can imagine the bullets they are sweating. I only wish those were real bullets we could use against the Russians.
Our military was drained and the Russians kept going. How did they have so much strength left? I heard over the radio that our Vice-President, Alexander Hamilton, had been fighting hard holding off a division of Russian troops on his own. That man has some serious balls.

Our troops look at the frozen wasteland and continue to march and fight

It is becoming desperate. I don’t see any of our helicopters in the air and only a handful of American tanks. Our anti-air artillery divisions have been decimated and our infantrymen are using their rifles as melee weapons. I’m fortunate to carry my own sword, but charging into some Russian tanks with it would be foolhardy now.

I hear over the radio that the Russians have broken through the final line and taken key objectives. Komari orders a tactical retreat, but our platoon is surrounded. The Lieutenant tells me that he will have John swing the helicopter around to pick us up. I tell the men around me that our transport is on its way, we will leave the tank and any unnecessary gear.

Time to evacuate!

The helicopter is there in no time and hovers over our tank. Komari drops a rope ladder and Tyro is the first to climb up. Princefigs follows with Colin close behind. I yell at Zeggie to get up when he tells me that he spotted an enemy anti-air artillery just ahead.

This Russian want us dead...

John hears the news and fires from the helicopters Gatling gun. There are no bullets.

Zeggie improvises and jams the tank’s gas pedals. The tank jerks and I nearly fall off it. I held on the ladder as Zeggie made is way through the tank. It as picking up speed and heading for the artillery piece. The enemy anti-air was maneuvering into position as Zeggie appeared from the tank. He jumped towards my hand and the helicopter. Komari signals John to get us out of there once I grabbed hold of Zeggie. The helicopter’s alarms sound as the anti-air gains a lock on our transport. Zeggie’s tank crashes into the artillery piece just a fraction of a second before it launches a missile at us. The missile is jerked off course and misses our helicopter.

After landing in a safe zone with the rest of the Corps and the military, we realize that we lost Far Eastern Russia. But we swear to take it back. The Skullcrushers await orders and train in the meantime. For Zeggie’s heroic efforts, he earned a promotion to Private First Class.
