Antiheros Manifesto
S.E.E.S
As an organization, S.E.E.S. has always been the subject of much controversy. Its leadership, notorious for being evasive and cryptic, often has not helped to clarify things in the public mind. However, there is good reasoning for this; the general view of the public, of outsiders, will never be entirely clear. Try as I might, this article will do little to alter the perceptions of either our supporters or detractors; they will still call us patriots and monsters, respectively. It is, therefore, prudent to spend little time in wrestling with such issues. Although, on occasion, the argument needs to be made so that those without firm opinions may hear another point of view; possibly more nuanced and complex than ‘omfgnazis!’
The reason S.E.E.S. is so hard to pin down is because of the type of game S.E.E.S. plays at; it’s very nature as the sanctuary of the American Anti-Hero. But, what does this mean? If you aren’t familiar with literary constructs, it might be easy to confuse the antihero with the antagonists; those that oppose the hero. But, this is not necessarily the case. An antihero has all the trappings of a bad guy and often is easily mistaken for one, but their acts are heroic.
Comparison: (from left to right) Hero; Villain; Antihero
A classic adage of the hero; the white knight bathed in holy light, is that ‘virtue is its own reward’. No one understands this better than the antihero but, perhaps as a defining characteristic, they will never be heard saying this. You might be asking ‘why’, but I believe the better question is ‘Why would the hero say this?’ When spoken, it often bears the outward appearance of benevolence and nobility of spirit… but if true, why would it be spoken? Why would one need to repeat, that which everyone already knows, for the sake of appearance if true reward is in virtue, not appearance?
It is this reasoning that defines the Antihero. The total disregard of their own apparent nature and the recognition others might say they ‘deserve’. They don’t believe in it. To an antihero, that which must be done is painfully obvious and to explain it to those who would argue is a waste of precious time and energy in what would likely be a case of casting pearls before swine. Those who know and understand virtue truly will recognize it and, at the very least, keep clear of the path. While those who do not understand it will likely attempt to capitalize on the easy target, building themselves up upon fau😜
illars of virtue and righteousness for all to see, that their fame may spread, while requiring none of the effort of accomplishing that which is of the greatest good.
I may have gotten a bit esoteric, so let’s take it back to S.E.E.S. In the halls of the Specialized Elite Execution Squad, we have made it a refuge for those who do great service to America, regardless of what rumor implies, and a destination for those who wish to be in America’s service. Whether it be to start anew in the arms of a state they once called ‘the enemy’, the new work place for those disillusioned with mediocrity elsewhere or simply the buffet of awesome that draws in fresh, young gamers hungry for something other than the standard fare; S.E.E.S. is the home of those who wish to walk off the beaten path.

And though the journey along it may take one to the seedier parts of the game, ours and our own understand that, through it all, SEES is LOVE.

SEES IS LOVE
I was going to troll, but you guys really do need all the help you can get 😛
SEES is a shadow of its former self, but I hope to see it improve soon
SEES. Saving our nation, inspite of it, month after month.
Good work bro, votado.
i started reading, than realised the entire article was just a bunch of nothing and stopped ;-;
Try reading crap like this, Briggs.

SEES. We're BETTER THAN YOU. And we know it ; )

SEES IS LOVE ^>^ This i know.
Emerick, I have some acii pron with your name on it 😁
Whoever wrote this is a genius.
A hero is someone who performs their duty with no thought of personal gain. An anti-hero is someone who performs their duty for selfish reasons. In other words, the anti-hero could be said to be doing the right thing for the wrong reason.
Nice try though. I could almost believe in this drivel if I had not seen first hand the unnecessarily cruel and bigoted behavior of some SEES members. Behavior that is defended and sometimes sanctioned by the SEES leadership.
At least this article explains how there are some decent members of our esociety that are members of SEES. Too bad they choose to continue their affiliation with the wannabe cult of SEES.
I SEES what's going on here
That would be a very narrow and limited definition of antihero. It's also entirely valid for antiheros to pursue noble causes using less than noble means with the belief that the ends justify the means; precisely the sort of thing you're 'BAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWW'ing about.
Anyway, keep on loudly decrying, Mr. Noble-Paladin. We are all very impressed with how righteous and benevolent you are.
They do because antiheros are much more interesting and relatable than heros. That's why no one pays attention to literature of the Romantic period. Hey, way to almost sound educated, though. Thumbs up!
Ah, I see where our communication problem is. You are speaking from the vantage point of a student still trying relate everything in your life to the last lecture you attended. I was speaking of the real life application. Understandable why so many of you rub me the wrong way now. Carry on.
I like a tragic hero like Macbeth.
😒nob:
Seems like someone is trying.
Voted for Love
I concur.
I don't think you do see, Steinus.
In fact, I think you actively avoid seeing.
You're speaking from the vantage point of someone struggling to fit everyone neatly into the little boxes he set aside for them. Act like me and you are a hero. Act otherwise and you are a villain.
You rub me the wrong way because your ability to role-play a Paladin lacks any distinction or character. Just another lawful/good striding around talking about how great it would be if everyone was lawful/good. How tedious.
I finally found the words.
Seeing your responses is like being hit in the face with a stick with 'I AM ROLEPLAYING A PALADIN' written on it.
"I may have gotten a bit esoteric" may have? a bit?!
"SEES. We're BETTER THAN YOU. And we know it ; )" classic.
"Seems like someone is trying." trying too hard to sell this load.
anyone with any sense of history has seen this whole gambit before.
the puffing of hollow chests, the beating of broken drums.
the weakest of character clinging to one another for strength.
there's nothing new here, nothing special.
We are the road less traveled.
None of you seem to understand. I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in there with me! - the anti-Hero.
Custard, I'm not sure which article you read, but the one your commenting on is an introspective examination of the S.E.E.S. mindset and contains no chest puffing or beating of drums.
If I were the weakest character, I'd join the strongest team (eUS Military).
>"I may have gotten a bit esoteric" may have? a bit?!
: watches Custard's mind reel at the concept of dry humor
