Congressional Update from Maine

Day 1,034, 17:49 Published in USA USA by Heero Blaze

Well my friends, its time for me to write another article on the actions of the Congress. Since my article last week contained little on the Congress, I will mention some older news, but I do want to mention it so that voters understand how I voted on various issues. I'll also keep this brief.

In my first article on the Congress, I had mentioned that the Speaker of the House had been removed and replaced. This, however, did not end the debate regarding the position of Speaker of the House. A debate occurred regarding the length of term for the Speaker, which finally settled to one month, as opposed to two.

The big seat over there is important!

I personally had voted no on the matter, believing that keeping the Speaker for two months kept consistency between Congressional elections, but there were solid arguments to replace the Speaker each Congress. Secondly, the term dates were clarified, from the 30th of the month elected to the 29th of the next month. This was not a difficult choice to vote in favor given that the more important vote had already passed.

Of more recent note are the votes on the budget and a discussion of the minimum wage.

As far as the budget goes, there are some fairly well set calculations involved to distribute Congressional funds and if you remember from my first article on the Congress, we had approved a few changes to the budget to help fund militias and cut out funds to dead programs. These of course are reflected in the current budget and I have voted in favor of it.

As for the minimum wage, Congress is currently discussing the prospects of raising it.

How it will effect the economy is the primary concern. Whether it will harm the value of USD or encourage economic growth is difficult to determine. Some argue that raising the minimum wage will help new players, while other counter that argument by saying that the Admins have already put in place mechanisms for improving the experience of new players. I would like to see a small increase in the minimum wage. It may not have an incredible impact on the economy, but it should demonstrate to the American people that the Congress is concerned about their standard of living. The discussion is still in progress and I have not made a final decision, but I’ll do my best to keep the people informed. And for all my readers, do feel to tell me your views on the minimum wage, whether it should be raised or how it will affect you.
