[AUT] Moving Forward

Day 1,009, 16:05 Published in Italy Austria by BundesPresseDienst

Throughout the history of this game, Italy and Austria have been on very amiable terms - cooperating numerous times both on the battlefield and off. Most recently, Austria deployed troops to aid Italy against invasion in the spring, while Italy offered their assistance and advice to us as we faced down a takeover threat in the month of May. Not only were we both allies in the former alliance of PEACE GC, we both became critical of the aggressive path it had taken, as it shifted away from its initial defensive ideals. After the collapse of the alliance, we both aimed as best we could to tread an independent course from the major superalliances - which led us to continue our cooperation long after we last shared membership in the same alliance.

Yesterday, Italy launched an attack on Austria, sending troops into Salzburg. This was done with no prior notice, surprising many in Austria given our past friendship. Nonetheless, we mounted a response and were able to defend our region. We do not, however, want to continue this war, damaging our relationship further by launching a counterattack. Nor do we have an interest in escalating the conflict, involving the very superalliances we have striven to be free of. We desire peace, and a restoration of the relationship we once shared.

For these reasons, we are introducing a peace proposal to end this war. We do not ask for reparations. We ask merely for a clear sightedness, that shows our nations should not be at each others throats, and should instead unite around common ideals once more.
