Time to re-set South Africa!
OKayOK
Just a small note from me, and if anyone can maybe listen for a second - and perhaps take to heart what I am saying, then I would be grateful.
I have seen this country at its best and at its worst, through destruction and unification. People at their very core feel that their views or ideas are correct and they have a right to, sometime however we go to far. We need to look at our community and we need to see what it will be in the end.
If this country was wiped out today, could we say we stood together, united in cause, under a banner of comradeship? I don't think we can, and perhaps I will feel no pride in the actions I have made and my involvement in this time of fractured brotherhood.
Today as I was on IRC I saw Ryan Dagari, a player that has been here from when I first started the game, and a player that I will admit that I dis-liked and often fought with. Funny thing is, after a long leave of absence - I was really happy to see the man. Kind of makes you think, what are you fighting against when you troll or stir up hell? Why did I ever fight with this man? I honestly don't remember - and I honestly don't care. Perhaps there is still fighting in stall for the two of us, but it is only a game! Ryan represents to me my earliest days in this game and I will be proud to say - judging from my own reaction to his return that I consider him a friend.
So, I ask, or rather I plea with my countrymen/woman to press the re-set button and forget the current state of affairs. I, as a congressman will take whatever questions any citizen wants addressed and personally represent you in the halls of government. I ask that all congressmen make this offer - and we can start the healing process.
On a closing note - I love you all (even you Amun and JP)

I concur
I agree with everything you said. We really need to reset, and rethink our current system, as it is clearly pissing the wrong people off. Rather welcome people who claim to want to help our country, instead of banning them from IRC and the forum. Personally I think everything that is happened in the last few days, we had brought upon ourselves. So we do need a reset. o/
Yeah, but Martin - we should also do it through the right channels - congressman are a perfect voice for the masses - and everyone should be encourage to talk to their congressman. Too many voices just makes too much noise.
The best piece I've read since starting my eLife.
I fully agree with and support you Mark! If you need help from a fellow congressman in hitting the country-wide reset button I am here to offer a hand.
Very well written Mark.
I like you, Mark Morcom. 🙂
Ah similarly we've had our disputes. I am the same way about it nonetheless. All that stuff doesn't matter anymore. I'd hate to see the day I find you're not around.
Same for Ryan, and most all of the other old players. Even if we fought, we were enjoying the game back then. We gave eachother a purpose, a reason to do things. All in all things were just fine no matter what happened anyways.
Those of us that've been through times like this already, we know that this drama seems important now, but really it's nothing. It's pointless and we gain nothing from it.
However, I disagree about asking the younger players to relent. Nothing changes about people until they do something to change themselves. The people need to fight now, so that they can learn the same lessons the older players learned about how all this stuff really isn't important enough for all this stress. Let people fight now, b/c they will fight one way or another. At least we know this fight isn't as (directly) dangerous as some other they could be fighting about.
I say let people get it out of their systems now, so that when something serious comes along, people are tired enough of fighting to just get the job done.
The ideolgical part of me voted hard nonetheless.
Either we have control over that re-set and do it ourselves or we have the country re-set FOR us!!!
Oh my. I think I just pressed the wrong button. Have to be because I read through the whole article and I like what I saw. Specially that last sentence, now that makes a lot of sense to me.
In a way I have to agree with Enoch too. Thing is, we have to allow people their opinions or the fighting will never stop. No matter how many reset buttons you press. Its everyone's learning curve.
Voted.....Nice Stuff Mark. I concur
Aw, we love you too Mark Morcom 😁
"Perezagruzka". (Not the one Mrs. Clinton gave the Russians). Voted.
🙂
Truely very valid points, but in a way I also agree with Enoch, people could simply leave the game instead of fighting for what they deem to be right. To simply give up when upset is not the way to go, especially now with the new version where we are loosing so many players already.
We need to find a way to move away from "fighting" and more towards "debating", it could be constructive.
Well said Mark.
And before everyone jumps down my throat no I don't expect it from you.
Mark Morcom is a boob
i hear u mark 🙂

Mark I felt the same way. Seeing everyone back on the IRC, it felt like all the old prejudiced seemed to have melted away. The world changes with time. Sometimes its best just to remember that we all worked together, not against each other, in one way or another, to make it the experience it was.
Ryan started the game about a month after I did and despite occasional disagreements, has always been a friend. The difference between a guy like Ryan and people like JP, Amun and Ronell is that despite the bitter disputes he got in, Ryan never turned his back on eSA or actively tried to destroy it or support those who did.
I am all for making up with old political "enemies" like my old FA foes because we all believed in improving eSA, even if we disagreed strongly on how it should be done. But welcoming those who actively support(ed) our enemies and destroyed our e-country is quite another matter, and I believe to be extremely dangerous.
Welcome back, Rye bread, from one crusty old e-veteran to another.
