The Great Purge, Glorious Failure Style!!

Day 954, 02:24 Published in USA Finland by Erwin Schauman

Today (or last night depending where you live) massive rioting ensued as the citizen moderator Necrosis, better known among the older users as Glorious Failure, decided to quit the game in an memorable style by openly distributing his moderator password on the US forum. Some say he did it as a protest against the up and coming version of the game, eRepublik Rising (Or eRepublik Downing (syndrome) as I call it).

A horde of disgruntled, some would even say eSuicidal, users accessed the admin tools and started to wreak havoc. In a matter of minutes, the eWorld was thrown into chaos and anarchy likes of which have not been seen since the gold duplication catastrophe of 2009. Dozens upon dozens of famous user accounts were accessed and banned, and their newspapers were used to spread, lets say "indecent", articles.

One of these accessed and banned accounts, ironically, was the user account "Admin", the symbol of oppression to many.

Well, pictures tell more than a thousand words. Here are few of my favorite ones:

Citizen temporarily suspended for not respecting the 1st eRepublik law!

Alexis Bonte, co-owner of eRepublik

Battalgazi, the number one player on erepublik experience pointwise

GlaDOS, Phoenix figurehead. Permanently banned

Dish, Phoenix figurehead. Permanently banned

Harrison Richardson, famous American politician. Permanently banned

In addition, several Phoenix military organizations were permanently suspende😛

The Russian treasury

Last but not least, the perhaps most known non-playing user in the game:

God Emperor Dio Brando

This was just a mere fraction of the amount of users executed during the rioting. The thread about the incident and more pictures can be found here: http://eusforum.com/index.php?topic=25837

Thanks for Lurvinator for creating the thread.

After the stormy night
As of now of the banned users should had been unbanned, but as admins did not make a rollback, some changes remained in place. All of the banned users irrevocably lost their friend lists and some still have rather insultingly named newspapers. It's unknown what happened to the gold in their accounts, but one would assume they are lost. It is expected that the admins are receiving rather angry messages from the old users on Skype.

edit: Apparently friend lists etc. are returned now.

There are rumors circulating that SEES will bear the brunt of the admin retaliation, and everyone who was on their channel during the fateful night is a potential suspect and may receive the gift of permanent suspension.

The incident casts a dark shadow on the whole citizen moderator project, as it followed a similar case perpetrated by the moderator McSam roughly 2 weeks ago when he used the admin tools to access several prestigious user accounts. It is unknown how the admins respond to the growing number of cases and complaints of moderator abuse, or if they will even acknowledge it. One thing is for sure, though. This wasn't the last time this is going to happen.

Thanks for GF for giving me the most entertainment I've seen in this game in the past year!

Please pay your respects by visiting the shrine dedicated to his memory: http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/Necrosis

Well played, old friend, well played.

Apparently over 300 accounts were affected. 🙂
