Bogo Logo - The truth behind the EDEN Logo
Coda
The truth behind the EDEN logo.
When EDEN came into the world as a global force they were applauded for their beautiful and sophisticated logo and design. However as I was browsing through google imagery I stumbled upon something that I was not expecting to see. EDEN has stolen a Government produced logo that was originally intended for children to discover more about California's state parks.
Here is the EDEN logo.

And here is the government issued state parks logo that was created in 2009.

The resemblance is unmistakable. Clearly who ever "designed" the EDEN logo had some "inspiration" from the children in nature logo.
That isn't even the worst part about this situation. Lets take a closer look at the Children in Nature logo shall we?

That little TM in the corner makes it a Trade Marked symbol. While they are only two initials these two initials stand for heavy penalties legally if you copy this logo. These two initials stand as a warning to anyone saying this logo belongs to this group ONLY.
"The owner of a registered trademark may commence legal proceedings for trademark infringement to prevent unauthorized use of that trademark. However, registration is not required."
I would classify EDEN's copy an unauthorized use of this trademark.
Prepare for legal proceedings.
EDIT:
I FOUND HIM! The original creator of the TREE that has been popping up and causing mischief everywhere!

It only takes $8 to own his trees.

"Lucy Somebody got some 'splainin' to do!"
Trademarks are serious business.
P. Magee
Any lawyers out there, P. Magee was not involved in the EDEN logo's creation, inception, or adoption and has no idea what the EDEN log is.
I saw that tree logo on a billboard near my house, neither as EDEN (obviously) or Children in Nature. My guess is that the tree itself is from some clipart or something. Anyway, children in nature probably weren't the first ones to use it either.
Oh, actually, the tree in Children in Nature is different. The tree that I saw on the billboard was the EXACT same. Next time I drive by it I'll let you know what it was for. EDEN and Children in Nature are similar, but this one that I saw and EDEN are actually identical.
Dade please let me know maybe we can compile a list and discover who truly owns this logo.
But from my experience as a graphic designer having this as a government trade marked symbol would be no light task if there was something similar out there in the world that had been previously trade marked.
I thought the last time I saw this in a PEACE/PHX propaganda it was for a health insurance program. I think Dade is right. Propably some kind of clipart
Dade, Bring you camera and take a photo. Then we all rejoice in the similarities.

Found it: http://www.co.camden.ga.us/images/pages/N441/Wellness%20logo.jpg" target="_blank">http://www.co.camden.ga.us/images/pages/[..].jpg
That one is identical. Nemanja pointed out the logo was stolen in January I think.
This is the same one that I saw on the billboard in Saskatoon. 🙂 Sorry, no camera Pants 😛
No, No, No Eden sold the rights to the logo, while still maintaining the right to it's original usage in eRep.
Besides the matter is tied up in the eRep courts, the next hearing is in August 2011
Lol Alastar 😛
What Alastar said.
But yeah there are many different stories about EDENS logo.
I remember the last time like Harlot said. And agreed, its probably clipart.
I'm going to file this one under "who cares"... for the following reasons;
for one) the logo is not the exact same, as the leaves on the eden tree are country flags, and different enough from the children in nature logo to be seen as a seperate and differentiated logo.
for two) seeing as this game is fake and imaginary and that EDEN does not exist outside the Eworld and the fact that EDEN is not a corporate entity IRL and therefore cannot be sued.
unless this article is meant to be funny and i read it wrong.
TIME TO SUE EDEN.
Pants found the tree.

Clip art FTW.
P. Magee
They could have at least left in the swing. C'mon everyone likes a swing, even those no-fun Hungarians.

According to my research there is no copyright on the logo, I could be wrong but the truth is..
WHO GIVES A F***? you really think the State of California is gonna spend the time to find this guy and then sue him? mm...not gonna happen.
The swing was actually added after Eden sold the rights to the logo. It was originally there when Eden created it but was removed due to objections of other member countries when there was no clear law regarding whether safety helmets should be worn on the swing or not.
I remember some Phoenix propaganda showing a piece of toilet paper and saying it was the same as EDEN's symbol. So what if we like trees. Like the PEACE symbol didn't resemble anything close to RL...
tell the artist he can sue us in the ecanada.ws courts
Lol hb741 we'll just give them some Q1 guns that should be fine right?
Maybe you were looking for something like this:

Coda is just making a joke. Jesus, when you are in a serious position, people will never take you seriously.
Yea, Coda is just joking. Obviously nothing can be done as there are many variations of that tree symbol. Plus as Rainer said, it's a game, not RL. So nothing can be done anyway.
Now, the EMC logos, on the other hand... is no joke.
>.<

IT'S UNMISTAKABLE! THE VIRGIN MARY DOES EXIST WITH US TODAY!
no not the courts again
Wow, health clinics and children's programmes don't have time to make up their own logo and then it wastes our time. At least we know EDEN can't be sued 😛
"Children in Nature" is probably trademarked, not the tree itself.
maybe EDEN should sue them to get real life money, so we can buy gold in game.
yesssss yesssss
You know EDEN may have purchased the picture as well.

Lulz
The same logo is used in my campus' gym to represent some national charity organization. My college hasnt been sued yet xD
sue the children!
Besides the fact that the TM on the Childrens of Nature logo will be for the name not the logo. Crazy talk and poo disturbing forthcoming.
I think it's the name that's a TM. And how much could they sue EDEN for for a an obviously non-commercial use?
Probably not worth paying a lawyer for.
I know, A group part of the convention for an organization i belong to has a VERY similar logo aswell
It's Trademarked, The Pictures are different, You do know that the trademark is only for that exact photo right?
I'm assuming that this was done as some sort of humor article. But there's a couple of things i'll point out.
Your confusing Trade Mark with Copyright. The TM is for the words Children In Nature, not the logo. Sure there are some corporate logos that are trademarked, like pepsi or nike symbols, but that design would require copyright.
Also, there's little to nothing a lawyer could actually do. Its more of a fear tactic making the assumption that trademark/copyright infringement leads to big court cases. It generally starts and ends with cease and desist letters. As most people comply out of fear that something might happen. If you live in the USA, then maybe, but the rest of the world doesn't take copyright rubish as serious as the United States of Litigation.
Just my thoughts.
the images arent the same, and as they appear there. While they are similar you would have a hard time taking them to court as they are different in several ways. It isnt against the law to have a similar logo.
Well, you've been clip-art pwned. And the 'TM' trademarks 'Children in Nature' not the logo as a whole. And I'm sure Cali. would like to sue a non-profit org. that doesn't exist IRL. and unless this was a joke. . .
Of course this was a joke. C'mon people.
"Your confusing Trade Mark with Copyright. The TM is for the words Children In Nature, not the logo. Sure there are some corporate logos that are trademarked, like pepsi or nike symbols, but that design would require copyright."
This is actually wrong. You can trade mark any symbol not just famous ones. Pepsi and Nike are registered trade marks. Thats different. However a Trade mark can be extended to any symbol, slogan, title, or saying without being registered to have a significant legal backing. Read up on Intellectual property rights.
Your all very right people. No one would sue over this. Especially since the two logo's don't dominate in the same field. EDEN isn't a childrens organization (well i guess sorta it is haha..) but it has nothing to do with nature. EDEN hasn't used the logo as a promotional tool based off of other logo's around the world which use this type of imagery.
However, using clip art as a logo does pose a lot of legal problems. Because of the ownership issues of a clip art image.
So, basically, the State of California hired a graphic studio to make the logo, then the studio simply doodled a tree swing and three words on a microsoft clipart image, probably convinced the officials it was an original piece of art, charged them some silly money, and the ridiculous thing got trade-marked.
Way to go graphic studio!
And State of California, you too!
You both did awsome work!
actually Alastar it was after the kid got hurt not wearing a helmet on the swing that they removed the swing from the eden logo.
Hold on let me finish illegally downloading all these movies and songs for free before I read this.... ok, now what were you saying?
I'm a little late to this party but trade mark or copyright, it makes little difference .. If you are not using the image for commercial purposes there is not a lawyer in the world that is going to invest the effort to even print a cease and desist order, let alone file a lawsuit. I think Eden is safe for now.
