V2: How eRepublik became what no-one wanted

Day 803, 09:14 Published in Portugal France by Hell The Great

The problem with V2, in its simplest form: it is no longer a game, it is a representation of real life.

Something which has been touched upon in the past, by some is that the main attraction of this game, in the past, was that it was a release from real life. Things weren't always about who was the richest, or who had the most soldiers; the two variables were inter-changing. We saw sheer numbers (PEACE-GC) win sometimes, and we saw pure spending power win at other times (EDEN).

The attraction of the game was, as stated, a "second life" - one in which we can try to attain status, success or riches to a larger degree or much quicker than would take in the real world. Whether that is individual or collective is no matter; the fact remains it was the main attraction.

The way to win battles, is to spend gold.

With the new damage formulas, and boosters, whoever spends the most money on weapons, and gold on boosters, wins. The stats of your account are largely irrelevant in the new formulas; the real damage is done with boosters, and high damage weapons. This is a complete reversal of the importance of accounts in V1; where Q5s would do ~30 damage for new players, and ~800 for the oldest. In V2; the difference is ~25 damage per hit for new players with strong weapons, as opposed to ~30 damage per hit for older players with strong weapons.

As well as this, medium aged players such as myself have identical skills as players almost double our age. Compare the following accounts; Hassan Pesaran - born almost two years ago. jamesw - I was born less than a year ago; yet we are both level 11 in military skills. If I was a tank as he was, we would both do equal damage, despite there being almost a full year difference in our join dates.

The way to dominate the globe is to do it by any means necessary; even if that involves cheating.

Do I really need to spell this out? We all know who is responsible; admins aren't even trying to hide who is at fault, or who were willing to take advantage of bugs. Ireland, Romania, Polan😛 they've all benefitted from the bugs by attacking willingly; although the former are not worthy of admins attention, their region being without value apart from troll material.

In RL, the same applies; we know that the "big boys" play dirty; the advantage of erepublik was that those who cheated were caught eventually, or were punished by their enemies when they ran out of cheated gold. As we've seen recently, it takes time for cheats to be found, and we are still unsure if they will ever be punished.

Those who choose to cheat, steal and be dishonest are never held to account.

As I previously mentioned, everyone has known that certain countries have been dishonest for months. On both sides. Neither side can claim a moral high ground here, yet both can feel truly let down by those who should be ensuring rules aren't broken. But there are thousands of accounts spread across the globe which are multis. Some are even as famous as each other.

No-one understands how the economy works, if it works at all

Workers cannot hope to make a living. Only company owners can.

The body responsible for keeping citizens in check is under staffed, under funded and slow to respond

There are rules no-one will ever understand
