Interview | Intel Chief Slothen on Running for President and Current Issues

Day 711, 18:34 Published in Philippines Philippines by Swagger McSwag

5-time Philippine Congress Member and National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) Director-General Slothen gets up close and personal with The Outsider and tells us about his presidential aspirations and his stand on the burning issues of today.

Hello. Good evening.

Good evening, Ariel.

So, let's get straight to the point. What has made you run for president?

To be honest, I didn't plan to run for a while, as I thought ePhilippines would not be ready for my reign, but all the support I have received from various people has convinced me that it is my time to run.

What do you think are the key issues that the country is facing today?

Lately, the most burning questions have concerned the country's financial issues, the continuity of the wargames and the lack of active people in the government.

What financial issues are you referring to, exactly?

Due to ePhilippines's role as the attacking nation in the Sol wargames, there have been lately a plenty of discussing of its impact on the ePhilippine economy. As the number of participants is growing, the number of trading embargoes goes up, which in turn complicate the lives of businessmen who are residing in ePhilippines.

A number of prominent congressmen have floated the idea of pulling out the Philippines from the war games as the attacking host country. Are you in favor of this measure, or do you have an alternative solution to this developing problem?

I agree with these congressmen, though I am ready to negotiate about the matter in Sol. If the withdrawal is not possible, the sides should at least be balanced, so that ePhilippines does not have to be embargoed by all its allies.

You mentioned a lack of people in the government. What plans do you have to assuage this?

Despite the lack of activity, I see many people who could potentially make great politicians, businessmen, and soldiers (and agents) if trained properly. All they need is a little guidance from experienced players. The Department of Education has done very well on this matter, but there is still a lot to do. While economics, and foreign affairs are also important, the main points of my term will lie on domestic issues, especially in the Ministry of Merriment.

In case you win, what do you expect to achieve within the first 10 days in office?

Well, at first I want to make clear that I am not promising you the moon from the sky. There won't be any drastic changes within the first 10 days, but as a starter I would start to make the government more dynamic. I would start negotiating with current directors and congressmen about how to make the system more effective. I will especially encourage citizens to take part in discussions and run for governmental positions.

BROLLIANCE LOGO

Recently, the EDEN/Brolliance power bloc mounted a successful resistance war in the Western Australian region against its Indonesian occupiers. This promoted then-Sol Security Council Chairman Hekter to propose the expulsion of Australia as a member of the Sol alliance, citing the latter's active involvement in the war a violation of Sol's pacifist general principles. What is your stand on this matter?

I'm sorry. I have troubles answering this question because of my position in NICA. I should try to be neutral somehow, because I have intelligence information on the matter and I am waiting for more.

We have a surplus of workers, especially low-skilled ones. However, we don't have enough companies open to accommodate them. How do you propose to solve this?

This is why we should reconsider our role in the wargames. The principle is that everybody should have a chance to work, and the government has to work out the employment question. The alliance provides us gold, which can be used to maintain government owned companies, but in the long term we should come up with a better solution.

If you were a biscuit, what kind of biscuit would you be?

I would like to be chocolate biscuit. Everything is better when made of chocolate.

(Mmmm.) Good luck, sir! Thank you for your time

Thank you, Ariel. It was your time too. Haha.

-.- Have a great evening, I guess.

You too. So long.
