《Preface》

　

Today, I want to introduce IRC to everyone. Why? Please read this article, and you will find out the fun of IRC. And the Non-substitutable position of IRC!!




《What's IRC?》

　

The full name of IRC is "Internet Relay Chat". It's a form of real-time tnternet text messaging or synchronous conferencing. It is mainly designed for group communication in discussion forums, called channels, but also allows one-to-one communication via private message. IRC is really old. It was invented in 1988. ie. IRC existed since Windows 3.1 had not been born yet! And since then, IRC has not significant update until nowaday. XD


　

You may ask, "Why do we use this old old system to communicate for eRepulik?" Ah, I transform your question to "How can this old old system exist for such a long long time? And how can it become the major communication interface in eRepublik?"

My answer is simple "Use it, and you'll understand!"





《How Great Is IRC?》

　

Ah.. It's really a difficult question. Being an "ancient" system, the greatness of IRC dose not depend on its convenient or powerful function, but on that it is real-time and widespread.

Let me show you some examples which I met in eRepublik IRC channels:





《1. Instant Help for Newbies!》

　

New citizen: "SOS! I'm going to die! But I have no cash to buy food..."
Old citizen: "Wait.."
(Old citizen used IRC Bots to find out the donate link of the new citizen.)
Old ciizen: "Okay! I've sent some food to you! Remember, DO NOT FIGHT again before you have enough money!"

-- Instant help!
-- In IRC channels, there are always some citizens online!





《2. Real-Time Interaction》

　

Citizen A: "Sell grain! Anyone want to buy?"
Citizen B: "How much?"
Citizen A: "0.1 TWD per unit, total 5000 units."
Citizen B: "How about 0.09 per unit?"
Citizen A: "Deal! You buy all first, and then I refund 50 TWD to you!"

-- Interaction without delay!
-- You don't have to wait the mail. What you face to are alive players, not a dead game frame!





《3. Tutors Here!》

　

Citizen A: "What's HOUSE for?"
Citizen B: "Houses supply health everyday."
Citizen A: "wow.. it sounds great! What do Roof and Wall mean?"
Citizen C: "Health points it supplis per day. And the duration you can use it."
Citizen A: "Ah.. so should I buy one?"
Citizen D : "If you want to buy a house, I suggest buying from Country X. Now, houses there are cheaper!"

-- There are always tutors in IRC!
-- You don't have to worry that there are no friends or acquaintance. Everyone in IRC is willing to help you!
-- Your tutor will be alive players, not dead tutoring websites. Tutoring websites can never offer you instant and changable information!





《4. A Linkage to Real Life!》

　

Citizen A: "I found a fresh actress! She is soooooooo cute!"
Citizen B: "Really? What's her name?"
Citizen A: "Ivoryfeather. I know her in the movie A-Girl-with-Dirty-Shouts."
Citizen B: "Okay, I will google her!"
Citizen A: "I got some sexy pictures of her. Do you want to check?"
Citizen B: "Show me!"
Citizen C: "Show me +1!"
Citizen D : "Show me +2!"

-- Every topic is allowed here, including thosenot allowed in eRepublik!
-- You may not know that it's illegal to publish articles which are related to eRepublik!
-- In IRC, you can talk anything you want to talk, of course including those in real life!





《5. You Are Not Alone!》

　

Citizen A: "Damn, my Battle Hero medal is gone!"
Citizen B: "Cheer up! Which guy stole it?"
Citizen A: "I don't know. Maybe a medal hunter."
Citizen C: "Sorry I'm the guy.. If I did not fight, we might lose the battle!"
Citizen A: "Oh.. that's ok.. (sob)"

-- Real Massive-Multiplayer Online!
-- In the game frame of eRepublik, you are alone. In battle fields, what you see are remnant shadows of other players.
-- Only in IRC, you can feel that "there are so many players around you!"





《6. Necessary for Army-Commanding!》

　

Commander: "Hold fire until T5, the last 5 minutes."
Soldier: "Why?"
Commander: "Let's see the change of this battle. Maybe we can retain damages to the next one."
Soldier: "Roger!"

-- It needs Real-Time for battle commanders!
-- In military, no instant order-transmission, no victory!





《7. Necessary for Diplomacy!》

　

President A: "50 gold per week. You can rent this region."
President B: "C'mon. We don't have so much money!"
President A: "How about 40 per week?"
President B: "30 gold per week, and you have to promise to fight against resistance."
President A: "Hey, it's really a bad deal for me!"

-- A worldwide tool for communication!
-- To communicate with players all over the eworld, you have to use the same communicative tool -- IRC!





《8. Bots Are Fun And Helpful!》

　

Citizen A: "How to know the influence I can make in this battle?"
Citizen B: "Let me check..."
(Citizen B used IRC BOT..)
Citizen B: "Ah.. you can make around 20,000 influence. By your data, I suggest you train your strength more!"

-- IRC Bots are useful for eRepublik!
-- Sometimes, you don't need to go back to eRepublik for data reading.
-- In IRC, you can catch the real-time status of wars all over the world by Bots!





《9. IRC Is Used Worldwidely!》

　

Minister: "Mr. President, a journalist from Taiwan wants to interview you!"
President: "Interview me? For what?"
Minister: "Maybe something like our joining in alliance?"
President: "Alright. Invite him to our channel, around 8pm."

-- A Worldwide tool, Your tool!
-- Try IRC now!! 😃





《10. Only One to Keep In Mind -- Don't Be Cheated!》

　

Citizen A: "Hi, I am AAAA. Can anyone help me buy a house from Country X?"
Citizen B: "I can buy for you."
Citizen A: "Great, you donate the house to this link... Then I'll donate money to you!"
Citizen C: "Hey! Wait! I am AAAA! Who are you?!"

-- Precaution: The guy in IRC is not always the guy with the same ID in eRepublik!
-- Most players use the same ID in IRC and in eRepublik, but if some guy wants to cheat you, he might cosplay another guy's ID!
-- Everything about money, please check the exact identity first!! 🙂

今天要跟各位介紹的是這個：ＩＲＣ。
為什麼要介紹IRC呢？
請你慢慢看下去，就能慢慢體會IRC的妙處，
以及它的不可取代性！！





《IRC是什麼?》

　IRC是一種遠古時代就有的溝通系統..


IRC的全名是「Internet Relay Chat」，也就是「網路中繼聊天」。
是一種透過網路的即時聊天方式。
其主要用於群體聊天（稱為頻道），但同樣也可以用於一對一的私人聊天。
IRC是一個很古老的聊天室系統，
有多古老呢？它在1988年就被創造出來，
也就是說，當WINDOWS 3.1還沒出來（台灣的第一個WINDOWS普及版）IRC就存在了！
而這之後IRC並沒什麼重大的革新！ XD

　
　無頭雞也使用IRC...
　「讓我們更新它吧！」「讓我們揉躪它吧！」「讓我們毀了它吧！」


你可能會問：
『為什麼要使用這個古老的聊天系統當作eRep裡的主要溝通界面呢?』
其實，你應該要這麼問：
『為什麼這個古老的聊天系統可以存在這麼久? 而且還能變成eRep裡的主要溝通界面?』

簡單地回答你：『你用了就知道！』

就像PTT的BBS界面也是老古董了，為什麼它還存在？即使在這麼多網站論壇充斥的時代？
如果你懂得PTT存在的價值與意義，那麼你會了解IRC的。。。





《IRC有多好用?》

　


這個問題很難回答，因為它是一個古老系統，
它的「好用」不在於操作或性能上，而在於它的『即時性』以及『普遍性』。

下面我舉幾個我開始玩eRep之後，進入到IRC的世界裡所遇到的幾個例子：





《1. 新手救援!》

　
　新手的立即援助 (北邊)


新國民：「救命吶！我快死了，可是我沒錢買麵包...」
老國民：「等等...」
(老國民使用IRC機器人瞬間查出新國民的捐贈連結。)
老國民：「好了！我寄一些麵包給你了！記住，在你存夠錢以前千萬不要再上戰場了！」

-- 即時的救援！
-- 在IRC裡幾手乎24小時都有人在線上！





《2. 即時的互動》

　
　現上拍賣生命...


國民A：「小麥出售，有人要買嗎？」
國民B：「賣多少？」
國民A：「一單位0.1台幣，總共有5000單位。」
國民B：「一單位算我0.09如何？」
國民A：「成交！你先把全部買下來，然後我再退50台幣給你！」

-- 立即無延遲的交流！
-- 不用等飛鴿傳書傳來傳去。你面對的是同時上線的玩家，不是死板板的遊戲界面！





《3. 這裡到處都是老師!》

　
　你可以在網路上學到任何東西..
　(組裝武器)


國民A：「請問房子做啥用的？」
國民B：「房子可以每天幫你補體力。」
國民A：「哇..聽起來不錯！那上面寫的屋頂和牆壁什麼意思？」
國民C：「那個代表它每天幫你補的體力點數，以及你可以用它的期限多久。」
國民A：「呃..那我應該要買一間嗎？」
國民D：「如果你想買房子的話，我建議你到X國買。現在那裡的房子比較便宜！」

-- IRC上隨時都有老師！
-- 你不用擔心沒有熟人或朋友可以問！每個IRC上的國民都樂於為你解答問題！
-- 你的老師是活生生的人，不是死板板的教學網站！網站教學是無法提供遊戲裡即時變化的資訊的！





《4. 和真實世界的連結!》

　
　「你跟我說這是一個玩政治的遊戲..?」


國民A：「我發現了一個清純的新生代女演員！她實在太太太太太太太可愛了！」
國民B：「真的嗎？叫什麼名字？」
國民A：「Ivoryfeather。我是在電影 -- A Girl with Dirty Shouts 裡知道她的。」
國民B：「嗯，我等等就來google她！」
國民A：「我有幾張她的性感照片，你要看嗎？」
國民B：「給我給我！」
國民C：「給我給我+1！」
國民D：「給我給我+2！」

-- 這裡允許任何eRep外的交流與互動！
-- 或許有些人還不知道，無頭雞有規定和eRep無關的報紙文章是違法的！
-- 而在IRC，你可以隨心所欲談你想談的任何事情，當然包括真實世界的大小事！





《5. 你並不孤單!》

　
　「嘿..有人還醒著嗎?」
　「我在，不過我準備要來睡了！」
　「我打算熬夜整個晚上，有什麼需要幫忙的嗎？」
　(MMO, 多人線上..)


國民A：「可惡！我的戰場英雄獎章飛了！」
國民B：「加油啦！哪個傢伙偷了你的章？」
國民A：「我不知道，也許是獎章獵人。」
國民C：「抱歉啦！我就是那個傢伙.. 但是如果我沒攻擊的話，我們可能會輸了那場戰役！」
國民A：「喔..那就算了...(泣)」

-- 真正的多人線上！
-- 在遊戲界面裡，你是孤單的一個人，就算到了戰場，看到的也只是其他玩家的殘影。
-- 只有到了IRC，你才能感受到「原來有這麼多的同胞在你身邊」！





《6. 對軍隊指揮而言是必需的!》

　
　「就是現在！開火！開火！！！」
　(來自戰場指揮官的訊息..)


指揮官：「現在停火直到T5，最後五分鐘我們再看看。」
士兵：「為什麼？」
指揮官：「我們看一下戰場上的變化。也許我們可以保留一些傷害等下一場再輸出！」
士兵：「知道了！」

-- 戰場指揮絕對需要的即時性！
-- 戰場情勢瞬息萬變，無法即時的發送或接受命令的軍隊，就是等著打敗仗！





《7. 對國際外交而言是必需的!》

　
　「我們交個朋友吧！我絕對不會攻擊你的！」
　「小心點，這傢伙是個騙子..!!」


總統A：「一個禮拜50金，你可以租這塊地。」
總統B：「拜託，我們沒有這麼多錢啦！」
總統A：「一個禮拜40金如何？」
總統B：「一個禮拜30金，而且你得承諾我會幫忙壓制起義。」
總統A：「嘿！哪有這麼爛的交易啊！」

-- 全世界通用的工具！
-- 你甭想要求外國人跟你用QQ、M群、還是什麼中文聊天室！
-- 要跟全世界的外國人打交道，就得跟大家用同樣的溝通方式，那就是IRC！





《8. 機器人是有趣又有用處的!》

　
　「等我一下！有人在問天氣，我得儘快給他答案！」
　(BOT=機器人)


國民A：「請問怎麼知道我這場戰役可以製造多少影響力？」
國民B：「讓我查一下..」
(國民B使用IRC的機器人查詢功能...)
國民B：「啊..你大約可以製造兩萬點影響力。看你的資料，我建議你可以多訓練你的力量！」

-- IRC機器人對於玩eRepublik是很有用的！
-- 很多資訊的交流，你不需要再回到遊戲當中查詢。
-- 在IRC裡，你還可以透過機器人隨時掌握世界各國的最新戰況！





《9. IRC在全世界廣泛地被使用!》

　
　『在IRC裡說吧！』
　「報告長官！如果你不用IRC的話，就沒辦法傳達你的神喻了！」
　(我們建議每個人都學會用IRC！)


外交部長：「報告總統，有一個來自台灣的記者想採訪你！」
總統：「採訪我？採訪我什麼？」
外交部長：「可能是要問關於我國加入聯盟的事吧？」
總統：「好吧！叫他到我國的頻道來找我！就約今天晚上八點吧！」

-- 世界性的工具，就是你的工具！
-- 現在就來試用看看ＩＲＣ吧！！ 😃





《10. 只有一件事要記得 -- 別被騙了!》

　
　『他說他也是"鯨魚"，他想要約我見面！』


國民A：「嗨，我是AAAA。有人可以幫我從X國買一間房子嗎？」
國民B：「我可以幫你買。」
國民A：「太好了，你把房子寄到這個連結....然後我會把錢再匯給你！」
國民C：「嘿！等等！我才是AAAA！你到底是誰？！」

-- 請注意：IRC上的ID不一定是eRep裡的同名ID的那個人！
-- 雖然大部份的玩家在IRC上會使用在eRep裡的ID，但有心人是可以偽裝成別人騙你的！
-- 如果和金錢有關的事，請務必再三確認身份喔！ 🙂





-- 當全世界的人都在說英文，你說「我拒絕學英文」、「我只要講中文」..
-- 很抱歉，是 你放棄跟全世界的人交流。

同樣的，當全世界的人都在用IRC，你說「我拒絕用IRC」、「我只用中文聊天室」...
-- 很遺憾，是 你放棄跟全世界的人交流，而且 你把這個遊戲玩小了！

> 如果你是三擊黨員：你真的可以不用進IRC！聊天真的很花時間，我不建議你來IRC。

> 如果你除了三擊，還想跟其他的玩家（本國人、外國人）互動，我鼓勵你進入IRC！

有事沒事，就上IRC吧！！　就算掛著也不太佔電腦資源喔！！ 😃
