[WTP] Wishful Thinking

Howdy folks,

To start, I would like to thank everyone who voted and commented on the previous article. It was very nice to re-open my newspaper with the comments and votes received. So, if any of you all write something, make sure to send me a message so that I can vote your article up as well.

Now, on to business:

In my last article, I stated that our party had our successes and areas that we could improve upon. I ended the article on the note that I would be introducing my cabinet. Without further adieu, my cabinet is as follows:

No one.

What do you mean?

How can you not have a cabinet?!

I am not particularly a big fan of cabinets. They have too many drawers and folks who have many talents may be doing a single task that will eventually burn them out. As an accountant, I understand completely how poorly people perform if they are doing something that is monotonous or unenjoyable.

However, the catch is that monotonous and unenjoyable things must be done! It is an unpleasant truth, but we must face it.

Instead of having a group of talented people wasted on mundane tasks, I will create a group of floating advisers who move between tasks of their choosing. The boring things will still have to be done but I intend on making our party more information oriented and relationship oriented.

An example:

I am interested in seeing what the relationship between number of votes and the number of people that check their messages two days before elections.

For example, I sent approximately 145 messages last month. Unfortunately, I had no way of tracking the number of people who opened a particular message (I have a good idea of how to track whether or not a message has been seen now). This month, I can conduct my personal research on how we vote and attempt to leverage that information to improve turnout in future elections.

Another project I would be interested in would be a study of who exactly uses Whalefare in our party.
Why aren’t members utilizing Whalefare at a higher rate?

It does not seem like any rational person would turn down free supplies with no strings attached and I am certain that we have sent out messages about the Whalefare program in the past. This leads me to ask “What makes the individuals who use Whalefare use it?” and “What makes the individuals who do not use Whalefare not use it?”. These questions are important to me because people ought to use these programs.

So great, I've thrown some questions out there. How fantastic?

How exactly do they relate to my original statement about cabinets. I’ll tell you. If I lock people into roles like Political Director, Director of Retention, Director of Communications et c., things that should be asked might not get asked because people think that they are stepping out of their bounds! That should not be the way things operate.

If people believe that they have an answer or want to investigate a problem, they should be able to do so. If their thoughts are wrong or their hypothesis does not line up with reality – they lose nothing but time and gain knowledge and experience. Even if we cannot use the information generated, other parties, our nation's military units, or national government may be able to utilize the information for the betterment of society.

I will most likely utilize the cabinet that I have had the pleasure of serving with this past term and will expand these advisers as needed.

If you like this idea or would like to propose a topic of study (I will be looking into these problems whether or not I win the Party Presidency), I would be delighted to hear a response. Heck, even if you hate everything I wrote in this article, I would love to hear a response.

Responses are just a form of feedback and there is no better thing than constructive feedback, whether positive of negative.

Sincerely,

Sunshine
WTP Political Director
With your vote, a defunct title!
