[WRP] - A view from Parliament - Issue 48

Day 2,886, 12:47 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Huey George

Introduction

My first 'A view from Parliament' during my 10th term as one of your Congressional representatives... very much later than I'd have liked due to my heavy involvement in Operation Burning Base where the Free British Irregulars deployed and destroyed 5x Power Plants, 5x Refineries and 1x Ammo Depot. Failing only on 4 occasions to successfully deploy and destroy an objective and each time it was the very difficult Ammo Depot. A big thank you to all the Irregulars who were able / fortunate to be able take part for the fine effort. In addition I have once again be honoured to serve as the Minister of Finance (Governor of the United Kingdom) however with this honour comes extra work.

It was a good result for the Workers' Rights Party Congressional elections at the end of September. My very belated thanks to all those who turned out to vote especially those who cast their votes in favour of the Workers' Rights Party, for the party to win 6 seats is a fantastic achievement.

Draft Defence Budget Bill - Nay

The purpose of the Bill was to put into law that all the UK's revenue not spent on Mutual Protection Pacts cost was allocated for defence spend to an upwards of 200,000.00 GBP. While defence of the realm is a noble principle I could not support this Bill as I felt it didn't hold the Government to enough accountability as it included no details about how the budget would be spent, accounted for and reported to Congress and the wider UK citizenry.

CPA Amendment - Aye
"CP has the same rights to as congress members, with the exception of speaker and committee votes."

This amendment was reasonable and brings our Congressional / Country Presidency arrangements closer to the mechanics of a 'new world' democracy, so a strong reason to support it.

Finance (Setting of Budgets) Bill (General Principle and Final Vote) - Aye

The Bill brings into excellent measures to help Congress have a financial oversight on Country Presidents and their Government spending plans and revenue outlook. A step in the right direction of putting into law a strong and transparent requirement that of all revenue raised by taxation of the UK citizenry is accounted for.

Taxation vote ( Day - 2,870) - Aye
Work Tax from 3% to 1%
Value Added Tax: Weapons from 3% to 1% (Import tax to remain at 1😵
Value Added Tax: Food from 5% to 1% (Import tax to remain at 1😵

Proposed and supported to minimise the amount of additional income our conquered regions would generate Hungary and Netherlands.

Vote on Sambo223's budget - Aye

A strong first attempt at a Budget from a Country President, may need a review as the UK situation has improved quicker than expected however it's principles of maintaining our existing MPPs and building a surplus if possible remains a good approach.

Taxation vote (Day - 2,884) - Nay
Work Tax from 1% to 5%

While I am not against an increase in the work tax level, I felt 5% too high and while there are ideas on how to manage the UK with a 5% work tax there is not enough Congressional oversight in place to monitor and report Defence spend and to a lesser extant monitor and report other spend. I feel very strongly that as Congress and Government we must be very certain on why we take money from your pocket and must be ready to instantly demonstrate how we spend it. As a Member of Congress and Minister of Finance I will endevour there is this accountability as I'm a strong place to do so

MPP with Albania (Day 2,872) - Aye

I was favour of signing a pact of mutual protection with them as they held / or was signing a very similar set of MPPs with as we held. In addition at the time they had a potential Airstrike in the offing with Canada as their proposed target. So a few reasons to co-operate more closely together a countries. The last 14 days have more than justified the signing of this MPP.

MPP with South Korea (Day 2,873~) - Aye

Seemed a worthwhile friendship to explore however was never moved beyond a UK Congressional agreement.

Airstrike on Australia - Nay

Proposed on the last day of Scarfar term as Country President and impossible to support for many reasons.

Natural Enemy - USA - Nay

Proposed early in the Country Presidency of Sambo223. While I was very (still I'm) keen to support our allies Spain and Macedonia in their war against USA, I felt this could be better achieved through our MPPs.

Congressional Committee Votes

Citizenship committee - Aaron Mark Daniels, Roachford, Rafay Ahmed and Neil Lewis

Defence and Foreign Affairs - Aaron Mark Daniels, Mitzuno, Mad Pauly, ToniJR, myself, Thomas765 and Rohirrin

Finance - My votes were for myself, Rafay Ahmed, Neil Lewis, ToniJR and Mr Immanuel Kant (and Neil Lewis once again in the tie break with Jamesw)

Home Affairs - No Vote only 4 Congressional applicants

All of the above I considered the a good mix of candidates for the committees for constructive oversight and fresh look... it was fairly difficult to decide as all the nominees had their own strengths and talents to bring to each committee.

Should we replace Nay with no on future congress votes - Nay

Close

As I have mention at the start... this 'A view from Parliament' has too long sat in draft format on my computer. While a great deal of it is 'old' news, I hope it has been informative and happy to discuss any issue raised in this article in more detail or any other issue with any of my constituents. Now time to hit publish before I procrastinate further...
