One-on-One with USA MoD The Mike

Hi, I'm Jude Connors and this is One-on-One with Jude Connors - the WHPR interview segment that brings all the boys to the yard. Damn right... it's better than yours. Damn right, it's better than yours. In each installment, I candidly interview someone either in government or just someone who is instrumental in the successes and failures of the eUSA community. This week's guest is the current Minister of Defense, The Mike.

JC: Welcome to One-On-One with Jude Connors. Because I know you are busy with our military strategy, I'm going to jump right into the interview. Can you give me a rundown on all the happenings of the Defense Department?

M: Sure, there isn’t much to say, to be honest. Communication has been our main objective and getting people to fight. I think we managed to achieve this, mostly thanks to Hungary and their allies of Croatia. The other occupiers haven’t been as obliging with us and haven’t allowed us to organize a military action that enables the American people to unite with the common goal of liberty.

In any case, I am sure that is due to happen at some point eventually 🙂

JC: I agree. We've had ups and downs but things are definitely looking better. Next question, Can you give a brief history of how and why this wipe happened?

M: The wipe is what brought me back to life. So, I can only repeat what has been already said. But before that, I must add that the eUSA had an outstanding FA policy for the first couple of years since the last wipe by the TWO alliance. As much as we want to distance ourselves from Wild Owl, we cannot forget that he was the sole reason that the eUSA received 10/10 boni in the first Resource War and 15/15 boni in the second. Let that sink in. It was an achievement which we had the prerequisites to win (having 51 core regions does make you a frontrunner), but we didn’t do it on our own. Personally, I give Wild Owl 100% of the credit for both competitions. He will always carry with him the blame for allowing the entanglement of events to today’s situation, so we must not forget why we allowed him to lead our Foreign Policy for so long in the first place.

What happened afterwards, however, is a different story. I can only compare it to what is known as “monopolies” in the Real Life. If you allow a monopoly to exist, if you don’t challenge the incumbent, they just carry on. And I think Wild Owl just carried on. After all, who could possibly challenge the person who single handedly provided our eCountry with 15 out of 15 economical boni?? So, instead I guess I’m putting the blame on people like me who dwindled down, let the ship be guided by the wind but we all know that even in that case there is a sailor to steer the sails. You would remember that Derphoof had 6 consecutive months of Presidency. While that was and still is a remarkable achievement, it just further signifies the state of the American eSociety. Our numbers had been going down, naturally...

So, fast forward a long time, the story goes that we attacked Croatia via an airstrike onto their Thai colony. Before that, however, I gotta remind the honorable reader that at that stage the eUSA had been pursuing allegiance with the pro-Serbia end of the spectrum for the better part of the previous 3-4 years. I cannot really recall the exact reasons right now for what happened to make us want to cool down our relations with Croatia - a country we had been allies for 5+ years at the time. I guess just like anyone else in this game we also wanted to achieve something we hadn’t before, and also something that would be a great challenge to embark upon. But in the end of the day, few years later, I can analyze that this FA direction hasn’t really been getting us anywhere. The reasons for that might just as well be within us (and not as much real life history) - from reading the country’s archives now I can share that we haven’t been as dedicated as we possibly could have been in this endeavor. So, I don’t know where the blame would lie, so I’m just stating the facts. At the beginning of 2018 the eUSA had MPPs (or at least very warm relations) with the majority of the Asteria and pro-Asteria. The separation between Pacifica (founded and lead pretty much by American representatives) and Hungary (who from Serbia’s BFF became a Croatian protectorate) is a true example of that. So, in this environment our officials and Congress supported a plan to do something drastic that would change eUSA forever. And, blimey, they’ve succeeded.

The Invasion
While Croatia was the key country behind the third American invasion (after failing to help us in the first two, this time they were on the invading side), we must also note the coordinated efforts of Bulgaria, Macedonia and Lithuania. A few more countries joined them to take advantage of this opportunity. A few friends tried to help us, but their efforts were marginalized. Poland was even removed from the equation unfortunately.

Also unfortunately, the American people should also know that there wasn’t much we could have done at that stage. There was Croatia and their allies who were attacking us, but there also were the strongest pro-Asteria countries as well as a full member of the Asteria alliance. The only help we could get was from a few friendly states and the Pacifica alliance. That would in no scenario be enough to match the power of the current occupiers. If you also consider the state of poor military organization that this country has, the picture painted ain’t the most promising one.

So, to answer your first question now, this last part is what we have been focusing on in the past month. We need to improve significantly our military organization, our military planning as well as our FA position. Only then we could aspire to be part of a friendship which could potentially but not necessarily help us liberate the great eCountry of the USA.

JC: What has changed to provide the recent upswing in American fighting?

M: Only one thing can happen for us to increase our damage output. (More) people clicking the red “FIGHT” button more often. But they also gotta do it in the right campaigns, in the right battles and at right time, coordinated and together.

There are a few things which we did to help this change for the good.
(1) First, we started publishing the DoD Orders more often and I also updated the format. Many found the dozens of comments beneath the article as funny. Their obvious purpose was of course to keep it up in the top5 for as long as possible. The result was simple - the first DoD article with the new format stayed in the top5 for 5 days and the last DoD article to have had a comparable amount of votes was the one when we were defending from the first Croatian airstrike. This was success #1.
(2) The second was when Korosh initiated the planning for a national strike, organised on our Discord channel. My personal expectations before the strike were that we would win a battle, but no more. Instead we liberated a region! And then another one and then we kept going.
(3) This led to success #3 - Americans kept coming to our Discord channel and now it is their second nature to come over and ask where to fight before they actually start pressing this charming red button.

There is still a lot more to go. These were all things which other countries (including our enemies) do on a regular basis, so even though I call them “successes” above, it is only in the context that we only started last month.

JC: So communication... coordination... and interaction. The Holy Trinity of the eRep military module. 😃

So tell me, what are some of the plans for the Defense Department in the upcoming month?

M: Without any further adieu, I will share with you that we are going to bring back the National Security Council. It must have been discontinued some time ago because of reduced activity in the game overall. But now we need it back.

The NSC is a structure in which all key Military Units of the country participate. It is no secret that in eRepublik MUs are the homes for our sub-societies of players. All players dwell in their MUs, fight according to the battle priorities set by the MU and we don’t have national military anymore. So, to make it easier for the government to work and communicate with the Military Units, we are going to bring back the NSC. Tonight I got in touch with all MU commanders to provide me with a list of their key commanders and captains. Then we will set up the required accesses and in game mass messages for communication.

We are also going to connect with all American pack-owners. They are our first line of defense.

Finally, we will also expand our media presence. Apart from improving on the DoD Orders which would ideally come regularly*, I am also quite keen on educating the American public on key military strategies as well as developments from the eWorld. Our society has been living in a silo and I must admit that it was comfortable. However, we are not in a position to continue to do so (unless if we don’t mind not having regions), so we need to start participating in the international game as well. In order to do that, our players need to know the game first. This is what I’m hoping to achieve.

Lastly, I’d like to refer to what my friend khotko wrote in his final CP article yesterday. I very much agree with his statement that the key leadership skills required in eRep are honesty and selflessness. I think having so many regions has been holding the USA back for this past decade. Now that we have lost them, we have the opportunity to make friends in a more exciting way than before. I liked the reports of American participation in the Swedish defense against Venezuela throughout the past week - now we have the build up with more actions for friends.

JC: I've also seen our friends hitting more for us, as well. It truly is a two-way street. One final question, sir... what can a citizen do to help out the Defense Department? Any government jobs available in DoD?

M: I love bullet points, so I will respond in this concise way to this very important question:

1) I, as Minister of Defense, need people to fight. USA need their people to fight. Fight in ground battles if you are strength >150k and rank Titan or more, or fight in air battles to get to Group Captain and above. If you need supplies and incentives - get in touch, we will arrange these.

I cannot stress enough how important is for our players to advance with their ranks. I will rush to publish an article about military awareness to hopefully explain why.

2) join the USA Discord server and participate in the strike room. Before you go and hit, check where your damage is needed. Idling on the Discord server is also fun and sometimes there is good banter too.

3) participate in the weekly challenge - collect as many prestige points on a Tuesday to allow you to reach even more PPs throughout the week. From 5k PPs onwards you get 10 EBs for every 500 hits and from 10k PPs - 15 EBs per 500 hits. If you have invested 100-200 Energy Bars (EBs), and you get to 10-15k PPs, you have actually profited 50+ EBs easily. What this also does is to increase your rank points (air and/or ground) as well as enables you to win some medals along the way.

4) entertain the thought of getting a pack - power pack should be the first one and if you are not spending dollars on the game, can you afford to pay game currency to somebody else? $120,000 or 270 gold does sound a bit scary and hard to achieve

Currently in the DoD we want to add more people to help us with the tasks. We are not limiting one person to be doing a single action, but it’s rather a team effort. Here is a short list of what we do on a daily basis:

✪ Set Battle Priorities for today
✪ Update DoD Paper accordingly
✪ Scan key enemy battle performance
✪ Coordinate with allies
✪ Coordinate with MUs / NSC
✪ Plan military action

I estimate we can add another 10-15 people to the DoD staff so that we can operate seamlessly. Please get in touch directly with me (and/or via your MU Commander) to sign up!

JC: Well, that's it, The Mike. I've taken enough of your time. We need you to focus more on the 2018 eAmerican Revolution.

M: Yes, we've got a war to fight. But it was great sitting with you for this interview. After all, this is one of the highlights of my eLife… being interviewed by the legendary Jude Connors in the WHPR.

JC: Of course it is. Till next time, I'll see you one-on-one! Good day, America!
