[TB4CP] Effecting Change

Day 4,543, 13:03 Published in USA USA by Tyler Bubblar

I would like to preface this article by saying this is not in any way shape or form an attack on the current administration. All of my interactions with President Groot have been nothing but cordial and pleasant. Point of fact, if I am unsuccessful in winning this election I wish to make it known I am very much willing to help the Executive in any way that I can. When the President and their administration is successful we are all successful with them. With that said there are things about our current set up I would change as President. Let’s go over some of them, and the intent in enacting said changes.

The eUSA has in my view a problem that can be summed up concisely: We have too few people doing too much of the work. The old saying “many hands make light work,” is more than just a folksy phrase. It is the truth. Right now our President is by himself doing the work of what should be at least 6 to 8 people. He is doing a remarkable job of juggling coordination with allies, updating prios, communicating prios, and balancing the many TWs we have going simultaneously. Full credit to him for doing all of this, but it is in my view unhealthy for the eUSA to have one person doing too much. Now full disclosure, Groot asked me several months ago to be his Minister of Defense. I declined that post as I do not consider it to be an area of strength for me. I can babysit a battle, direct damage, and coordinate with Allies on any given day with the best of them, but keeping up with it day after day, week after week…. Not so much. I have always relied on an NSC team to do the daily grind of this. I say this to make clear I am not blaming our President for the current situation.

A Fed player of some renown who is no longer with us (fingerguns) once said to paraphrase “every Party/Nation needs the right mix of technicians and propagandists. If it becomes unbalanced one way or the other things begin to break down. If there are not enough technicians to do the work of running the Party/Nation all the propaganda in the world cannot compensate for the lack of substance. If there are not enough propagandists to get the members of the Party/Country engaged, excited, and enthused the work of the technicians will be all for naught. On occasion, she went on to say, a rare individual will arrive on the scene that has the talent, time , and energy to be both a technician and a propagandist. Those are worth their weight in digital gold.”

So the plan is this: Build teams of technicians and propagandists. I am working right now to get a team of writers for the WHPR. I am also assembling teams for the NSC, State Department, and Department of Citizen Affairs. Many hands don’t just make light work in eRepublik they also establish a foundation for the future. I said this in my previous articles, but as President I cheerlead my Cabinets and the individuals who work in our various Departments. I select people who have skill, enthusiasm, and a desire to contribute. I give them a general outline of what we are hoping to do, and then I step back and let them go about achieving that goal in whatever way they think is best. I have long believed an approach like this gives people a sense of ownership in their work. Which leads to their best efforts. eRepublik at its best is a meritocracy. When we reward people for giving their best with a chance to take the reins and lead we all win.

It is my intent to reinstall a culture. I want our citizens to log in and see a fresh WHPR, a fresh article from DoCA outlining new programs and educational materials, stack the wall shouts in their MUs, Presidential Media, and battles that matter whether or not we win or lose. For years in the eUSA we as a community worked far harder than the admins ever did to keep things interesting and engaged. Over time we have drifted far from that. It will not be quick or easy to fix. We did not get this way overnight, and we will not reengage the community overnight, but that will be the clear overriding goal of a Tyler Bubblar administration. We are a community! My team and I will remind us of that until we all start to believe it again.

One of the steps I am taking to bridge the divides and get us moving in a common direction is to assemble a team of rivals. Already I have accepted offers to be in my Cabinet from members of my own Party (Feds), USWP, WTP, and the SFP. I have extended offers that I am waiting for a response to some in BSP as well. That said if you are a member of the BSP (or any other Party) and want to get involved please contact me. I don’t care how new or inexperienced you may or may not be. If you want to contribute, I want you on the team. I have assembled similar teams of rivals in the past with great success. The rule then as it will be now should I win the upcoming election is simple: leave the Partisan fighting at the door. We are going to work together for the betterment of the eUSA. We were successful beyond my wildest expectations. I believe we can replicate that success.

As an added bonus when it is time for me to step aside. There will be a diverse group of experienced individuals ready to lead the eUSA into the future. They will have a rebuilt Executive with all of the apparatuses we have enjoyed in years past with (hopefully) a deep pool of players to draw from in helping them keep not just the lights on, but keep the machinery of the eUSA revving. This game is so much more interesting when we interact and do more than click. So let’s build something that will keep new players logging in and keep our existing players wanting to login. It is not easy to build or maintain but it will be worth it.

Anyone who reads my article will notice a lot of recurring words: community and engagement are probably the two most common. There is a reason. I have always believed getting the Community engaged in the goings on of the nation should be the number one task of any Presidential Administration. This can be accomplished through articles from the President and Executive orgs. It can be done through MM and through in game shouts. It can also be done through transparency. My administration will offer transparency by returning an old favorite of mine. Firstly I will be asking the eUSA forum admins to restore the Executive threads of the Government section. We will once again have the PDB; it will not be public as some administrations have done, however, I will assign a Press Secretary to post a daily summary of the activities of the Executive in the public portion of the Executive Boards.

There we invite you to ask a question of any member of the administration whenever you desire to do so. I will also ask the Press Secretary to publish these summaries every few days in game. Questions can be asked in the comments of those articles. Those questions will be answered in a timely manner. This should allow the players who eschew the meta aspect of the game a place to have their questions or concerns fielded. This role has been filled both admirably and hilariously by Aramec and Scolbert in the past. I have selected someone who I believe will excel in this role and look forward to seeing them inform and entertain. This should also help us as an Administration keep our finger on the pulse of the community.

Another thing we will be doing is have a consistent conversation with Congress and also the citizens of this great nation. Whenever there is a communication disconnect it puts a strain on just about everything. Routine things like renewing an MPP in Congress or voting on a NE become a mudslinging s#*tshow. Wars can come and go and seemingly go nearly unnoticed by the populace. True Patriot damage, CO money, and Epic battles are great, but if they are not pitched to the nation few will be all that invested in it. Presidential Media will not just explain the what, but the who, how, and why. The thought process behind the decisions made will be shared as much as possible with all the alacrity circumstances will allow. Communication is an integral part of Leadership. Without communication leadership becomes simply instructions.

There will also be accountability. I will ask my Cabinet to be active not just in performing their duties, but in publishing Department articles, checking those articles for comments, shouting their own and other Departments articles, posting relevant information regarding their Department and projects to the PDB, and at least on occasion checking into Discord/Telegram. Those who do not meet this standard will be released and replaced with someone who will. I have confidence I will not need to do this as I have selected a dynamic group based on their talents and skills. That said Ghost Secretaries will not be tolerated. Wars and Natural Enemies will be found for Contests when they arise. In short the little things matter and careful attention will be paid to them. The nation deserves nothing less.

We are all still here because on some level we still believe in something. We believe in our Party, our MU, our Nation, our community, our investment in this game. As I have stated previously we are the core of this nation that refuses to break. We are fewer than we were but we are still strong! Our mettle has been tested for quite some time and we have proved true again and again. It is time to shelve the fatalistic pessimism and celebrate the belief that keeps us coming back. There are still great things ahead of us. In short we're going to believe. We’re going to give ourselves something to believe in again.

Before concluding this article I need to take a moment to thank everyone for the positive feedback I have received not just in the comments of my announcing article, but also in the form of PM and posts on my various Q&A threads. It has been heartening and more than a little affirming to see. I started this campaign believing I had something to offer, but also more than a little nervous. No small amount of time has passed since the Resource Wars the last time I was President. (Which reminds me when is admin going to give us perception training and local governments?) I knew there was a possibility that many would consider me a burned out oldfag trying to cling to glory by making one last run at power. Yet as I said the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Thank you for that eUSA. With that I thank you for taking the time to read and ask you to consider voting TB4CP on May 5th 2020.
