[REFERENDUM] Dictatorship
UNL Congress
Dear citizens of the eNetherlands,
In a few moments (00:00 Friday GMT +1) a referendum will be starting about the future of our governmental system, after the Dictatorship update. All eDutch citizens are invited to let their voice be heard and we stress you to do so, as the results will be legally binding. The latest update implemented a new governmental system in eRepublik, namely the dictatorship. Every indigenous Military Unit can - with enough military power and money (including foreign support) - overthrow the democratic government and congress and have a dictator seated with absolute power. As this is especially dangerous for small countries like ours we decided out of emergency to implement our own dictatorship to make ourselves a less interesting target. However, the legal fate of our current ''dictatorship'' is yet to be determined, hence this referendum.
The referendum will take place at our national forum, http://enetherlands.nl/. Not yet registered or part of the eNL citizen user-group (required to be eligible to vote)? Please check the following tutorial by the Ministry of Home Affairs on getting starte

The following 4 options are available:
A] Country President as Dictator.
B] A neutral player as Dictator.
C] An absolute Dictator that replaces Congress and the Country President.
D] Abolish the dictator position with a revolution.
As this article only serves to neutrally inform the public about the organisation of the referendum, I redirect those wondering about the consequences of each option to the congress debate (click) about it and to an article (and the discussion below it) written by eDutch citizen Konnes about it (click).
Please cast your vote here (Friday 00:00): Referendum Dictatorship.
Happy voting!

I would vote B. Let me know if my vote there is needed to get the majority but as it's now I won't break my forum ban....
yeah well you will need to vote if you want to mean anything to the eNetherlands no matter you 'forum ban'
Reading is hard isn't it? Or perhaps you don't (want to) understand?
But let me spell it out for you just in case you really don't get it;
Say there is a stalemate towards the end of the vote between say B and D and one of the B voters wants me to go vote B to make sure it's B. I would, for that reason alone, be willing to break my ban to do so. But as I think it's common sense to vote B I don't expect it to be needed and won't go vote.
Apart from that; The voting could have been done in game perfectly. For instance via a response to this article. Or via Google docs. The fact it's forum only is one of the reasons I don't visit forum anymore. Several players play their own game there. I don't want to be part of that.
I agree.
I would like to ask you to review your ''forum ban'' and reconsider if you should continue with it. The forums (and their people; the Dutch citizens) are more diverse than ever. It will only take one peek at the fora these days to notice it is hardly an ''elitist'' safe haven.
Forums and IRC Channels are - essential - to the functioning of every eNation. Boycotting such channels is as worse as the elitist behaviour that is sometimes apparent in there. What is even worse is that both wrongs multiply each others. I boycott the forums -> There will be only one power base represented / I act elitist and try to keep opponents away - the opponents will boycott. Both sides are effectively damaging our country.
So once again, please reconsider your boycott. Many have you in high regard and put you as example. Don't do it to appease me, or anyone else, but for our country.
It's one of the reasons NoTie. Also the fact I'm hardly on a PC anymore the last year or so but mainly on mobile makes it hard to visit forum. And when I'm home at a PC frankly there are other, RL, matters to attend to that prevail. Same goes for IRC.
If I would however the atmosphere I've experienced whle I was there hadn't been the way it was I think I still would have been there. Now I'm not there is hardly anything (if any) of importance that I miss so I seem to be able to do without just fine without using time there. Time I rather spend on the game itself. For instance via coaching young players, answering questions and the like. And there are still some jobs I do in game that cost more time then a lot of players spend in total 😉
I was hesitant to vote, but I did to add to reaching the quorum. I'll keep in mind to pm you in case we havent met quorum near the end.
That could also be a good reason indeed.
bad tonie bad tonie wrong banners wrong dividers.
nah he is using the good ones. not the ugly ones.
These ones are better
Nice article. I think a translation of this article would be wise, if you want as many people to vote as possible. 🙂
while it would be nice. if you can't speak English you are either too young to be playing this game or something went terrible wrong with your education.
I would agree with you for 90%, but some matters are so important you want as many people as possible to know about it. In case of a referendum, adressing one more player because the notification is in Dutch is worth the effort of translating.
That's funny, i remember way back, sometime last year when i proposed the idea of government articles being in ONLY English and everyone bit my head off lol. Things have changed it seems.
Plenty of people aren't fluent
Hmm, perhaps. Still all the links given in the article will direct to English page, so these Dutch-only people are encouraged to make an uneducated vote? 😛 (In the presumption that those people only know Dutch, but I think that is very very rare).
I too think it is very rare anyone here wouldn't be able to understand English, but the whole idea is to let people know about the referendum. People who wouldn't take the time of educating themselves before voting or vote at all don't care whether it's in Dutch or English of Swahili, but those who ARE interested should have a 100% chance of knowing what's going on. But again: I agree that it's very rare for a 15-40 year old Dutch not to speak, write and read English.
I was soooo tempted to write WAAR IS DE NEDERLANDSE VERTALING but you beat me to it 😛
It's option B for me! 😃
